  1. I see Tav as one of our most important players and want him to stay 100%. But if an offer came in too good to refuse (I’m talking £15-20m range) then he is not easily but definitely replaceable if that money is spent correctly. Which under Scott I would hope is now more likely than before.

  2. Actually, seeing as how you asked, I do. Think it is great when the Home Nations are doing well in their own respective groups and I always get behind them until they play England. England could have created new records last night had they really wanted to!

  3. I predict that Tav is going to prove a lot of people wrong over the next few months. I think he'll be excellent as the John fleck of wilders system.

  5. It also recently occurred to me that in his time he has played under 4 vastly different managers (Monk, Pulis, Woodgate, Warnock) who all wanted him to do something completely different and never settled on his best position. If he lacks some consistency and struggles with decision-making you can hardly blame him. This is also only his third season where he's a regular starter. One season under Woodgate, one season under Warnock in empty stadiums. Frankly, if I were Tav I would be thinking it's probably time to move on unless Wilder comes up with the goods. I would be looking at Bam

  6. Its time ladies and gents! Warnock’s Warriors ™ are no more. Neil has been given the shunt, left with nothing else to do but annoy Sharon and fill the rest of his time blowing hot air on Talksport. Blackwell’s been binned, allowing him to finally finish his kitchen extension. Big Ronnie Jepson has left too, presumably spending his time continuing his metamorphosis into a human-sized tomato. In comes Chris Wilder! Chris, along with his assistants Alan Knill and Matt Prestridge, have parachuted into Rockliffe over the international break and are already hard at work crafting the Boro s

  7. I like Tav and agree he can be influential in that he is direct and likes to run at teams, which can lead to us having good attacking play, but more often than not his end product has not been very good either blazing shots wildly over the bar or tamely straight at the keeper. His crossing/set pieces aren't much better. He is still only 22 and can still improve though. So for me if the money is good then I'd sell him and use it to bring in players that are a better fit to wilders team.

  9. Projecting current results forwards (a crude measure, I know), a team will need 41 points to be safe in the Championship this season, which was also the safety line in two of the last four seasons. Derby would have to get 44 points out of their 29 remaining games to accomplish that. Over a whole season, that level of form would give a club 70 points, which was enough to propel Swansea into the play-offs in the 2019-20 season. It would take something pretty miraculous from the patched-up squad Rooney's got to engineer 1.5 points per game between now and May. And in related news, Wycombe ar

  10. He has very good natural abilities, and the things that need to improve aren't impossible to coach, so it's not a huge detriment to his value. Teams will pay for natural abilities, workrate and potential to improve. When I say "vastly" it's because we are talking about stepping up to the Prem. He will have less time on the ball and will up against much much better players, so his decision making needs to vastly improve. The time he takes and the decisions he take. That's probably the main thing that he needs to improve on now because ticks a lot of the boxes; young, english, skillfull, hard wo

  11. I'm not sure that Tav is ready for the PL. He'd need to vastly improve aspects of his game, but I suppose his style wasn't helped by Warnock-ball. Bielsa might get more out of him, but he would certainly be very expensive.

  12. Burke wouldn't make any sense to me, we already have Watmore for the fast, nuisance type striker, so it's probably just because we were linked to him last window.

  16. I've made some notes again tonight but someone from the club side tonight just wanted to make sure we were all aware the minutes of these meetings needs to be approved club-side before anything in writing is released. So in the interest of MSF altogether, I'm gonna keep the notes to myself at the very least until the official minutes get approved. The representatives of the club are very open and candid in these meetings so I get where they're coming from. It's not like they were pointing fingers or anything either, just one thing made them a bit weary of it and if you trust my judgement

  17. Why? Gdansk is actually a very historic city with plenty to offer. The German invasion of Poland, which marked the start of WW2, began in Gdansk known as Danzig at the time. Although it's a relatively small city it is supposed to have a rich cultural and restaurant scene. Add to that the city was a major factor in the fall of communism. And it's fairly cheap too and the flight is just 1 hour. The time of year probably isn't the best, but we were supposed to go in the spring of 2020, but covid put an end to that so here we are. You can read a lot but I was just trying to see if anyone had

  18. Good morning everyone. I'm a Sheffield United supporter and have seen with interest that you've appointed Chris Wilder. I'm a season ticket and have been for the last 20 years, and I'm a regular at most of the away days (I was at Boro the other week for our pitiful 2-0 defeat), and I've followed football all my life, and got a keen interest in the wider game in general, and thought I'd come on here and give you the full rundown. The first thing I'll say is that Chris Wilder is a proper Sheffield United supporter, he was a ball boy at Bramall Lane when he was a kid, came up through the ra

  19. We have had a few yes. None of them have been good managers though, we have one now. And it's not like he's ever looked bad under any of them, he's just been inconsistent. Even with that, he's been one of our most dangerous players over the last 3 years. And you're right in that its coming into that time in his career that he needs to start fulfilling the promise - I just have a lot of faith that he will, whereas you seem to be more doubtful. Both valid views, but I'm convinced I'm right on this one.

  21. Tav has proved to be vastly over rated. He promises so much and delivers so little. I would move him on if a decent offer came allong.

  22. Tav is coming up 23 so the idea that he is developing and improving is a slightly romantic one. The England squad last night included young lads whose careers are in an upward trajectory and continually improving. He is a decent player at this level definitely, no less, but certainly no more. His ship is about to set sail and I'm not so sure he has his passport to hand. I don't think we will get any more out of him and probably a move is in his best interests at this stage of his career. Staying at Boro hasn't improved his game despite having different Managers with differing styles. Play

  24. Not sure what others think, but I actually thought back in the summer Payero was brought in, in advance, as a Tav replacement, as opposed to selling Tav and clubs knowing we have a lot of £ to spend and getting over charged. I think the club may of been aware Tav could well move on in next 12 months.

  25. I'm told Grant Leadbitter was at Rockcliffe today in full training kit. Think working with youth teams. Be nice to have a character like that involved in the set up and hopefully moving into the first team training eventually.

  26. What are your expectations for this season with the new man in charge? Reduced. Always felt like my expectations were limited to the length of the contract with Warnock, especially given the drab football. Which means to justify having the control he wanted, he had to succeed every year. Wilder's here for the long term and there's a job on his hands to get this team firing in the way he wants. I still think there's enough in this squad to get play-offs but if we don't make it whilst showing adequate progress then so be it. What team do you expect Wilder to put out? Not sure what

  27. I think my mum thought that being given stockings as a teenager by a mysterious American serviceman might have been exciting but getting them from a bunch of lecherous old men in the Synners Social Club, less so. (Could have been even more awkward for the committee if a teenage boy had won).

  28. Definitely in short supply.. One of the reasons the Americans were popular along with chocolate. Remember my mam saying that she used gravy salts to create the illusion of wearing them, but not feasible on rainy nights sounds like part of the "Four Yorkshiremen" sketch, but makes you realise how lucky we were not to experience that sort of thing

  29. I'm not really sure those two statements really fit together. For what it's worth, it's the first one that I disagree with. Maybe more of a choice of words thing to be fair but I don't think he needs to vastly improve anything. Some of his aspects aren't the best but I don't think they call for vast improvement or we wouldn't see a high value from him at all. Someone from our academy who I'd say needs to vastly improve aspects of his game for example would be Ste Walker because he's not even at our level never mind the level above. Tav in my opinion, even with his poor decision making at

  30. What are your expectations for this season with the new man in charge? Same as before, finish around about 10th whilst being in the playoff conversation. Although now I'm expecting some growing pains to start and then improvement towards the end of the year both in results and style of play. This season is a free hit for Wilder and hopefully we can make steady upward progress, I trust Wilder and Scott as a duo to push us forward. What team do you expect Wilder to put out? Whoever isn't injured at this point, whether he tries to transplant his Sheffield United tactics into our sq

  32. I think Basham coming here seems very likely, a low cost transfer would suit us and Sheff United with his contract due to run out in the summer. Burke I'd take but it would have to be for free and on low wages, he's literally done nothing for a few seasons now.

  33. It may be that we have a ready made DM. That was Dijksteel's position when he joined Charlton where he was converted to a right back, if my memory serves me correctly. I could imagine him playing in that role and doing it very well

There's loads to see, I was very moved by the museum celebration Poland's split from Russia, it's in part of the old dockyard and a river trip that takes you to the peninsula where ww2 started. 37. I’d reserve judgement on all players until they play under Wilder. No midfielder was really tasked with playing in a Wilder style whilst they were under Warnock. And for the majority of the players it’s going to be a big change in approach to Pulis and Woodgate if they were here back then. Id like to think that they would relish at being asked to play football, rather than hoofball. We did at times look really good on the floor under Warnock, but it was a rare glimpse. I’d say that Crooks could definitely be capable of a DM role, but I think that Siliki could also do a good job there
    1 point
  38. Yeah, everyone has a clean slate for me. Though my comment on crooks passing was less based on stats (which are also pretty poor) and more on watching him be unable to complete simple passes a lot of the time. This will need to improve and hopefully it will with more time spent on pass and move in training. It's obvious that this was near the bottom of warnock and cos priorities when we train.
    1 point
  39. I don’t see how we can judge crooks passing for us based on stats when our stats as a team are terrible. We barely seemed to finish games over 40% posession under warnock, sometimes getting into the 30s.

  40. Interesting how we can watch the same games and get completely different results out of it. For me he's one of the better players with the ball in his feet. He's got great close control for such a big lad and multiple times a game he will dance past someone he really shouldn't!
    1 point
  41. I disagree with that assessment. He’s as capable as any of our current midfielders with the ball at his feet although I’m reserving judgement on Payero. I wouldn’t pay much attention to his passing stats either as he’s played in a multitude of positions, often in the final third where space is tight. As a defensive midfielder, there’s more space to play and he’s not looking for the killer ball everytime. With a bit of time in that position, I think he’d be very handy at this level.
    1 point
  42. He's not bad with his feet in terms of his touch and he is quite mobile for someone so big. If we can improve on his passing and decision making he'd be ideal for the role, but that's a big if.
