The morning after the night before  27 years ago we sadly trudged out of Hillsborough after suffering a heartbreaking 1-0 defeat at the hands of Leicester City in a cruel cup final extra time defeat Losing the league cup final at Hillsborough was so painful, but what made it worse, as we silently made our  way back to our cars/buses to get home when our thoughts would instantly drift back to what should have been, back to the first game at wembley when we were just 90 odd seconds away from winning the trophy outright at wembley a week, or so earlier After a goaless 90 minutes Rav put us infront & what looked like the winning goal, when we celebrated I dont think I've ever heard a bigger roar When Rav scored I was visions of buying a 12x12 foot photo of the goal, getting it signed & framed & mounted pride of place in my Boro loft, our first wembley cup final goal was going to become our trophy winning goal & for me sitting alongside our 1975 Anglo Scottish triumph, but sadly it wasnt to be Then with time ticking by Boro had a throwin, within what seemed like seconds later, the ball was nestled in the back of our next & a replay to our already exhaustd season of continous games was to be arranged in an already busy schedule  The wembley cup final was 12 months away from the football league deciding on penalties being the outcome after extra time if there were no winners Attachements showing match report with front & back pages from the Evening Gazette 😞😩

From BBC report on match tonight Southampton were forced into a line-up change when goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu pulled up with an apparent Achilles tendon injury during the warm-up and manager Russell Martin curiously decided that veteran third-choice Alex McCarthy should leapfrog Joe Lumley - named on the bench - to start.  🤣

Their owner is an attention seeking knobhead. "I'm going to appoint the first female manager in English men's football, why can't people be more like me?". Had a major press conference announcing her time in charge. Gave dozens of interviews across the media bigging himself and the club up for it. All done for publicity before replacing her 2 weeks later, after she'd managed one friendly, by a Horseman.

To be fair at the 1st of April they were 12 points behind Leeds albeit with 2 games in hand. They were in it but a massive outsider in similar way to Boros pursuit of Norwich, both highly unlikely outcomes at that point of the season.  Also add to that  I don't think many would have predicted since the 1st Leicester have dropped 6 points, Ipswich 7 and Leeds 8.

Southampton were always still in it but had 2 games in hand so looked miles off.
