  1. We have went from selling Tav to the premier league to loaning him out to a divisional even though he plays every game for us. Our fan base. Utterly mental. Leave the lad alone, he’s doing just fine and had his best game for a while on Saturday. The signing off McGree will hopefully ignite him.

  2. I think I'd actually quite like Tav to miss a couple of games so that people can realise just how much worse we would be without him. He is the beating heart of our team, he's the one who always shows for a pass, who always gets the ball moving forwards. Does he make mistakes? Of course he does. Could he be better? Of course he could. If he was much better he certainly wouldn't be playing in the championship or for us. We would be a significantly worse side without Tav in there.

  3. i dont get the tav bashing now. when he was playing as a winger and not being creative and being wasteful fair enough. but hes a cm now. and he is covering he ground making tackles tracking his men. putting quality balls into the box keeping possession well. he occasionally gets caught out. but who doesnt? we cant expect him to be creating chances like a winger or scoring goals for fun like crooks. i think tav has being doing really well as the left cm. my main gripe wit hhis before was how he was to selfish and chose the wrong option when in a good position. i cant remember him doing that at

  4. When our players get (often deserved) criticism I take a deep breath and remember that they have been coached in three different styles in three seasons by managers who I would not let anywhere near one of my junior teams. Under the Wilder regime there is a pattern and a purpose and players like Tav will benefit and should improve with consistent approach. Please bear with them and don’t sell them you most likely will see much better players evolving this season and next. Thank God for Wilder

  6. Wilder specifically mentioned McGree could play LWB, so that might be his way into this team rather than at the expense of Tav. Taylor didn't wow me last game and I'd love to have a threat similar to what we have down the right hand side to give us a bit of balance.

  7. I think Gibson's ire is aimed at Morris and the EFL rather than DCFC. Derby unfortunately are collateral damage, caught in the crossfire. Morris has abandoned ship leaving the mess which had the EFL governed the game properly he (and many other Clubs previously who tried and in some cases succeeded in buying their way into the Premiership) wouldn't have been able to do. Gibson had been banging on about it for long enough but the EFL just swept things under the carpet. The EFL's lack of a backbone or even genuine interest in what Clubs were doing to me (and I'm guessing to SG) is simi

  10. A hard agree from me. Here's his Championship stats. He had been going along at a goal or assist every 4-5 matches in a team that was nearly relegated despite playing everywhere from left back to second striker. This season his productivity has really dropped off but he appears to be being re-trained in more disciplined left centre midfield role. While Crooks has played alongside Jones since Wilder started, Tav has been having to mix and match with Taylor, Bola and Peltier. Again, while Crooks has either McNair or Dijksteel behind him, Tav doesn't have a natural left-footer behind him. S

  11. With Tav, it's worth acknowledging his role in the team has changed now. Under Warnock when he was playing right wing, there was way more pressure on him to score and assist. I think he's class in this left centre-mid role, it suits his strengths nicely. Now we've got Jones in those edge of the area pockets who has way more of a killer instinct. Tav still got himself a nice assist on Saturday too though!

  12. So important. Wilder totally justified in his comments about Crooks being first choice and Payero having that as a barrier. But the importance of team spirit and bond will be crucial. Injuries/suspensions will likely come into play and feel for the first time in a while we are trying to ensure we have cover in all areas of the pitch that have the attributes we highlight as being required for them.

  13. For the hard graft and the way they are fighting and for the sakes of the fans I would like to see them stay alive and get through this with a club to follow. Many of us remember the harrowing times when we nearly went out of existance would not wish that on anyone, one mans actions can cause untold repercussions something we might all witness soon with Putin

  17. As much as I'd love to see more of Martin, can't complain about our midfield trio who have played most others off the park since Wilder came in. Reading is the first game I can't recall us dominating the other midfield with pressure and possession. I'd also say that Crooks is neck and neck with Jones for our player of the season award and I wouldn't be looking to drop the big fella. I do wonder if there's the potential to play Crooks and Payero in the same midfield longer term. It's been noticeable that Howson is no longer playing an out and out DM role, he's often picking up positions ed

  19. Not sure I agree with that. If it was a race and we were leading Derby until the final lap and then tripped over our own shoelaces, and that that's the only reason they finished ahead of us, obviously it's our fault that we didn't beat them. But if it then turned out that Derby were on performance enhancing drugs they'd have been disqualified even though it was ultimately our own actions that cost us the race. Obviously their massive coordinated cheating of FFP would be the performance enhancing drugs. Pulis *** up massively to cost us a play-off spot that looked ass

  21. We have mentioned just how much Boro are improving as a team and individual players since CW arrived of late I have seen that with Tav, his for want of a word greedy side is not on show anymore and he is a far better team player of late. We do not see him taking as many free kicks from his own onus but clearly he is acting to instructions from the bench. Want him to say as he has a big future if he stays Phew glad I spelt onus correctly😁

  22. It’s like being back in the 80’s again, football clubs almost going bust, Russian troops back on the borders, living with a 3 minute warning. European allies saying one thing but doing another. Oh happy days, I didn’t think days like that were gone forever, really hoped I would be much older or gone before they did.

  27. I know what you mean - I thought at first that I'd got my maths wrong with the 41 years. Hodgson was indeed sent off together with City's Nicky Reid. This was the final day before red and yellow cards were abolished in the Football League because the League had decided that referees brandishing red and yellow cards wound up spectators. Hodgson and Reid therefore became the last players to be red carded in the League for six years, until FIFA forced the League to reintroduce them. The match was also notable because Boro played in Manchester United shirts (complete with United badges).

  28. True... Picture this... McGree retrained as a lwb, Bola retrained as a left footed CB ala dijksteel on the other side. Two problems solved with one signing. I know people hate round pegs square holes etc, but our best player this season wasn't a rwb before. Crooks didn't play on the right of a midfield 3 as far as I know. Tav was considered a winger. I don't think watmore played up front very often before coming to us. I trust wilder to see the attributes of players and know what role will suit them best.

  29. I think Taylor is a decent attacking player as well. We look one sided sometimes, especially against Reading, but I don't think that is necessarily Taylor's fault. He isn't as quick as Jones, nor can he take a man on in the same way, so it's no surprise that Jones sees more of the ball. But if you look here, Taylor's average position was actually only marginally further back than Jones. Also, he was in the box for the winning goal and whenever the ball came in from the right. So I wouldn't say he was a defensive wing back, he just has a very different game (picking up the ball and m

  30. There was a point in time not so long ago where if Tav didnt play well or get enough touches we would definitely lose, His role now of being more of just an engine suits him better and he offers us a ton off the ball. I think frustrations for some fans are we have someone like Payero who is clearly more technically talented but we havent seen enough to know how the difference in work rate would effect our play. Could very easily see a future in which Crooks plays the deeper role and Payero comes in with Tav and everybody really rating Tav again just for the shift he puts in.

  31. For me Taylor's been a greater attacking threat in his games for us than Bola at wingback. He looks good overlapping a winger in a 4, but a bit lost when the onus is on him to be the attacking outlet down that side. That said Bola's been either not playing under Woodgate or a defensive fullback under Warnock. Maybe with more time under Wilder & co's coaching we could have a decent attacking wingback on our hands. He certainly seems the type with good application and a willingness to listen & learn. The difference in his performance levels under Warnock was shocking from the player

  32. As much as I love seeing Crooks in that half -space linking up with Jones and Dijksteel, I can't help but think Crooks could be the long term answer in Howson's role which opens up the place for Payero.

  33. I didn't say it did. We had a better squad, and more investment than them, they still cheated to get the squad that they did have. Cheating doesn't necessarily make you better than somebody else, it just closes the gap. Derby indisputably cheated, and they finished above us because they cheated. Waghorn, a player they breached FFP to sign ahead of us, scored 5 goals that led to two wins and two draws. He assisted 2 goals that led to a win and a draw. He also scored another 4 goals and provided 1 assist that helped lead to wins, but weren't integral to them.

  36. I don't know anything about the Kernaghan situation but Tav is starting every game and playing the full 90 and the manager thinks he's a special player, going by his comments after the Reading game. I think there's only one place he's going to get better for our team too and that's by being here and continuing to work under this coaching staff. I know getting away for a bit isn't the worst thing in the world to do but I don't think it would be of much benefit to him right now. Having said that, Wilder already said McGree would have been involved on Saturday, even if only on the bench, had

  39. Urgh Tav again. I think there is a good player in there, but his consistency has been poor for the last two seasons. I am one of his biggest critics, because I want to see his contributions in terms of goals and assists increase, but credit to him on how he finished the game on Saturday. I didn’t see anything in the first 75 mins that Tav did that couldn’t have been replaced with a different player. And that’s why I’d be in the ‘if big money came in we should sell’ camp. I disagree that he does a job that couldn’t be replaced with an additional player such as McGree. But I can see

  41. Sadly Morris is still floating around Derby in the background, he is still the owner, and his other companies hold the ground, so anything to do with Derby till he has gone is ultimately him. The administrators are running the club but any deal means Morris involved or benefits somewhere. This may be why Gibson is holding his shot and keeping his powder dry, as I believe he wouldn’t want to harm Derby as a club for the fans, it’s Morris and the like that have his ire and until something changes like a bid goes in I expect nothing but more anguish for the County fans. As someone who

  42. His role now is completely different to that he had under the last three managers. He's now a focal point in the centre of the pitch and not a winger. He makes things happen with the ball and with quality strikers a goalscoring midfielder besides him and attacking wingbacks he is perfect for us. He is excellent at drinving the ball forward and now that he can actually keep the ball on the ground and for a bit longer he no longer has to just hoof it or do it all by himself. As a player and with his skill he is perfect for the way Wilder wants to play. I don't think there is any chance we are se

  43. I’m surprised at the number of negative posts. First half was good we were unlucky, Reading were awful. They ever so slightly bucked up there ideas and got lucky with the goal. We got what we deserved in the end against a team that made themselves difficult to break down. No need to throw the baby out with the bath water. I’d keep things the same going into Blackburn. The only thing I’d like to see is a bit more attacking threat from our LWB. Would give us a bit more balance with Jones on the right.

  47. Sadly I think Tav will go the same way. He's clearly shown in the past that he's good enough to be a top player in this league and yes he's not had a great couple of months but potentially he could be a great asset for us and coming through the academy you would think our fans would get behind him yet the stick he gets its outrageous and he will just end up leaving. I don't know another team where the fan base gives their academy lads as much abuse and yet bang average foreign players are lauded like messiahs its bizarre.

The issue isn't playing out from the back, the issue is decision making on when, where and how.  If the opponents are closing, down, swarming and pressurising it can be effective by unlocking them and catching them up field however it is also far more likely to result in being bullied out of possession, putting us at risk or as we seen recently a poor ball to O'Brien leaving us stuffed. Having outlets making and creating space and time is crucial whether you play out from the back or go long. Simply hoofing it isn't the answer any more than playing a suicide ball to a player being rapidly closed down 20 yards out from our own goal. It's not the tactic that's at fault, it's the application and implementation of it which comes down to the skill, intelligence, awareness and ability of individuals. Chuba was great at holding the ball up and playing in team mates, we don't have that skill set this season and it's showed, having a Giles to be unleashed down the left hasn't been available this season, both were key to how we played last season. The loss of those outlets haven't helped us and those are just two examples. That said with the speed of Jones and ELL, playing it long can also be a serious threat to our opposition but neither tactic will work if players aren't looking up, alert and aware of their next pass/movement and to me that is the biggest difference between last season's passing it out from the back and this season. We passed out at speed and with cutting accuracy last season, this year we seem less confident, hesitant, slow and have created more problems for ourselves on many occasions because of it.  The massive summer upheaval in personnel hasn't helped and confidence and belief won't have helped with the start to the season that ensued. I'm sure many of the new signings were less than convinced as we set that record poor start statistic. Over time it's improved but nowhere close to our ability to pass out that we had last season, hence the frustrations and discussions.

I'd quite happily take a draw now, it keeps them down, keeps the unbeaten run going and keeps things very interesting in the promotion race.
    •
What team would you pick? Dieng Dijksteel VDB Clarke Jones Howson O'Brien Engel Azaz ELL Silvera Based purely upon who has been fit enough to be starting or on the bench recently. With his contract situation I can't see Paddy being risked unless he is totally match ready plus the Player himself wouldn't want to risk injury, bit of a gamble for me. What's your favourite thing about Leeds? Car showrooms, I have bought quite a few Cars from dealers in and around Leeds. What are the odds on Bamford cheating yet again? I'd be disappointed if he did but with the stakes so high for Leeds I guess if he see's an opportunity he'll go down quicker than Pally F*nny. Will we derail their promotion push even further? I suspect another draw, Leeds have been spluttering so we could take them but without Ayling our supply line is severely restricted (never thought I'd be thinking let alone saying that when we signed him). Do we want them in the Championship next season is maybe another way to approach the game?
