  1. Just on Spence. I think @Neverbefore summed it up well. He's a player with potential and it would be very interesting to see how he'd do in a Wilder team. As others have said it feels like he could go to the top or he could plummet to a level below where we are. In an ideal world we'd keep him and see where he ended up. But we don't live in an ideal world and we are under certain financial constraints; Firstly the fact Spence isn't at the club, so his sale wouldn't affect the current team's performance weights in the favour of selling him. That coupled with the absolute revelat

  2. Derby County Football Club owe HMRC somewhere in the region of £28 million yet somehow none of today's MP statements or news reports make mention of it... The biggest disgrace to football wouldn't be Derby getting liquidated it would be them wriggling out of a £28 million tax bill it would make a mockery out of every club and every individual in this country who does pay their taxes. I don't care if we get a penny out of Derby but the new owner will need to pay that tax bill in full anything less would be an absolute disgrace.

  3. At the time Derby were first accused of breaching FFP in 2018, the Derby fans absolutely reveled in it and regularly taunted everyone (but especially fans of Boro, Forest, Leeds etc) about Mel Morris *supposedly* having everyone on strings - everyone has seen the meme which now makes them look a special kind of stupid. It was all across social media, whether it was them beating us to signing Waghorn, articles on they suspected FFP breaches or forums around Derby v Boro game, so it was very clear that their fans approved of Morris' *then alleged* cheating. Still, 4 years later, after they'

  5. I think this would be the perfect photo to use for Ugo.

  6. Derby fans seem to think Mel Morris should sue MFC for libel. Sometimes there just isn't an appropriate emoji.

  7. Here's a hint: They didn't talk to anyone and they made it up.

  8. Me neither. Although that might be due to the fact that twitters clogged with screaming derby fans urinating themselves at the minute.

  9. If this was a player we were scouting, would say he has plenty of potential, suits Wilder's style and only 22!

  10. Get it done. Selling Spence helps balance the books without impacting our team whatsoever.

  11. Could equally go in the match day thread, but given the chat about Tav in here yesterday I thought I'd pop it in here. I think the thing the surprises/impresses me most in these highlights is the huge variety of positions Tav shows for and gets the ball in.

  12. Following discussions with the supporters forum, there seems to be a bit of traction with regards to creating a memorial of sorts for big Ugo. The initial suggestion was for a mural of some sort depicting Ugo during his Boro pomp. Would be interested to hear thoughts and suggestions as to what how you guys would like to depict a memorial and where you’d suggest it goes. Initial thoughts are for something like this… First thoughts on placement were somewhere like the following locations…

  13. We're trying to become a sustainable club with buying players at a low cost plus focusing on our youth players and then selling for a decent fee, if we do that with Spence hopefully he becomes the first of what will be a very successful business model for us moving forward

  14. The most likely outcome, but it's less fun that way. This was from 2020, as far as I know there was absolutely no concrete interest in the summer. Tottenham boss Mourinho keen on Middlesbrough's Djed Spence, Championship side Middlesbrough are increasingly resigned to losing Djed Spence this summer

  15. This Spence stuff is quite exciting like, isn't it? Shame it can't work out for him here but if we've got clubs in a bidding war, oof. Still, £5m for Tav should be alright, eh?

  19. Ideal scenario…. Cooper goes to Everton and buys Spence for 20million. Forests form drops.

  20. This is the area for me. You could do so much along that wall. We must have some talented artists who could create murals of Ugo, Ali, and anyone else who deserves to be immortalised in the future. Just a question of who that wall belongs to.

  21. there's some that would accuse them of child abuse for that 🙂

  22. I don't think Warnock had any issues with him at the point in time. Mourinho said he liked Spence after we played them in the cup, I expect journalists just took that and span a yarn about Spurs wanting to sign him in the summer. I actually expect that's the same reason Roma are being linked with him now. I'd be happy if the rumours are true this time, but we see time and time again that journalists often have very little genuine insight in to club transfers and piece together what they can from scraps.

  23. My mum was a big believer in the fashionable and durability of corduroy, if she saw anything that looked remotely that I could grow into then she would be looking to see if she could pick it up for 20p or something ridiculous. but that was how things were then, jumble sales and handmedowns from older cousins, only good thing was my cousins were older so got a chopper that way and responsible grownups to take me to the Boro.

  24. You mean lurching from Monk to Pulis to Woody to Warnock wasn't optimal for developing a young attacking player!? It's a miracle he even still likes football after being coached by that clown car of managers. Will be exciting to see how all of our young players continue to improve this season - we definitely haven't seen the full potential of Jones, Tav, Fry Dijskteel, Bola etc yet.

  25. And then when she'd dragged a jumper over you that was about 5 sizes too big she'd go, "Don't worry - you'll grow into it". 😁

  26. I wish I could say it was because when I was younger I had all the girls chasing me. Sadly this is not the case even though I was dressed in the very best clothing that our school jumble sale had to offer. (For those members that don’t know what a jumble sale is, think eBay but in real life) 😂

  28. I think to be fair to him, he was our best midfielder for passing in the game on Saturday, when I looked at the stats. Yeah, he made 9 more passes then the next most and still had the highest pass success rate of 81%.

  30. I'd guess next season is the last one if they don't renew the contract. I've quite enjoyed the Hummel kits, personally, even if they've not always been perfect. I strongly disliked this season's at the start, but they've grown on me as time has went on.

  33. Also shows what a difference it makes when there's always an easy pass on. Under the Warnock system, there was never a teammate in space nearby. With Wilder, there's usually a nice triangle and enough teammates occupying the opposition so you don't always have to try something risky.

  34. “On the one hand, it is said that there is no prospect of the claim succeeding, in which case there is no risk for a new owner. But, on the other hand, the administrator apparently cannot find a new owner because they will not proceed without the claim being settled due, presumably, to the fact that it has merit and might succeed. If the claim has no prospect of success MFC does not understand why a new owner would resolve the matter by accepting that the arbitration decision should be honoured.” I thought this part was quite amusing

  36. I like this idea. Helps create more colour and atmosphere in and around the ground.

  37. That was my thinking, and it starts a buzz and personality about the club before you get to the ground itself. Obviously the main stumbling block would be the company who own it.

  38. This wall on the right could be a good space and you could have a series of murals for other Boro heroes and legends that the fans would want to honour. Like a memorial version of the East Side Gallery. On Ugo specifically, I 100% think we should have something for him.

  43. You rarely see proper wingers that get to the by line before crossing the ball in the modern game now. It’s a bit of a dying art really. You don’t score ‘bullet headers’ from balls aimlessly pumped into the box from deep. The angle of attack just doesn’t allow it. You don’t see as many from corners these days and I’m not 100% sure I know the exact reason for that to be honest. Can’t remember the last time I saw a near post flick on from a corner! That used to be all the rage.

  44. It is but times move on, it was certain posts on her earlier or yesterday that made me realise that I’ve been watching and supporting the Boro for over 40 years. Lots of posters on here won’t have been around at the days of Ayresome Park, or seeing the squad running past you on Eston Nab or on Redcar beach. numbers 1-11 were sacred numbers back then now 43 is just as important as number 1 or 10

    • John Ruddy been officially let go by Wolves it seems, I wouldn't be totally against him signing. Was always a Good Championship level keeper for both Wolves and Norwich. I read something regarding George Friend a few pages back the other day and I would be totally all for it, would add some great leadership and the fans would surely be right behind him still and as a left sided centre back I think he could do a real job for us even if just as a back up option. Also heard the Rhodes rumors and I personally believe he is a perfect Wilder Striker, such a hard worker and a great finisher. Which leads me to my final former Boro player, Ben Gibson. I again would love to see him return and think he could flourish in the left sided centre back role for Wilder's system. I do think the best options for those outside centre back roles are more suited to a full back converted/secondary centre back but at Sheff United Wilder didn't always have that option and was still greatly successful. If Fry was to leave Gibson would be great in the middle of the 3 of course.
    • Very strange move, but apparently it's a three-year contract and for good money. He'll finish is career mid-table in the Championship.
    • Nothing mate. Just a hunch feeling.
