  1. 38 Draws... wasn't that Karanka's plan for the Prem season?

  3. Ahhhhh, 38 draws and 8 defeats might get you relegated 🤓🙃

  4. Got a good feeling we’ll win this one. Balogun with three, Sporar one, and Lumley will get an England call up for his recent uplift in form. Might be a bit overly confident…

  5. Introduction Oh dear...brace yourselves folks. Things have apparently got so bad that DS has asked me to do another MDT. As you know, to quote @TheJew when this happens, "defeat is inevitable". @Weasel was originally lined up to do this thread, but wisely left it very late to show up, so he could get to do the Cup thread against Chelsea instead...smart cookie! 🤓 Last Time Out Unless anyone has developed amnesia, you'll recall Boro's last outing against a scrappy...some might even say "dirty" Millwall side, saw a performance that wasn't great...but also wasn't terrible either. 6. No need to bee too optimistic, so we might not win more than 8-0 🤓

  7. Not quite two PPG but Sunderland's achieved 90 points in 1997-98 and to my knowledge still is the highest points total for a side to miss out on promotion from the Championship. The two automatic spots that year were Forest (94) and Boro (91). The Makems then went on to lose the play-off final on penalties to Charlton.

  8. Btw 2 assists for Spence at the weekend. Perfect timing if indeed we are opening discussions with some top teams these days.

  9. Don't most of Chelsea's senior squad own SUV's big enough to sleep in? I'm sure we could put them up for the night in our car park round the back of the stadium.

  11. This is probably me showing my age, but what else could his name be? or have people lost sight of the difference between diminutives and full names. Am I the only one who deliberately winds people up by calling people christened Harry by Harold instead (or Frederick/Oliver/William/Tobias/Daniel/Joshua).. hours of fun for a weirdo like me 🙂

  13. It must be depressing being a Birmigham fan. And I guess that's why they call them the blues.... Hopefully we can fully shake the Away hoodoo off our back tomorrow, after knocking it off one shoulder the other night. Brum are nothing special, so as long as we show some heart, we've got a chance. I predict 2-0 Boro. Sporar (pen) and Watmore to score

  16. I said the same with Crooks missing the Barnsley match and our midfield was atrocious in the first half that day. I'm sure we could probably afford to miss McNair or Peltier if nobody is injured, but Howson is a tougher ask to replace with our limited options in midfield. Hopefully McGree is actually fit by the 2nd.

  17. I think the closest will be Brighton on 89 points when we went up on goal difference.

  18. If I recall right he blamed the administrators. I was speaking about Derby with an investor and he basically said he thought there was one price before January and a different lower one after. Essentially he was saying you had the opportunity to buy Derby as a championship team and with opportunity to keep it that way prior to January. Now you are essentially gambling on buying a league one team.

  19. As above, it's never happened in the second division when it's been 3 points for a win. When it was 2 points for a win, and 22 teams, 56 points was the equivalent of what we'd now call 2ppg (two thirds of all available points). Brighton missed out on goal difference with 56 points in 1977/78. Blackpool missed out on goal difference with 58 points in 1967/68. Preston missed out with 56 points in 1963/64 West Ham missed out with 56 points in 1934/35. Birmingham missed out with 56 points in 1919/20. Plenty of teams missed out with the equivalent totals when it w

  20. Reckon we will win this 2-0, Dijksteel, Bola, Sporar & Balagun starting, Jones will have a field day against Pederson & Roberts. Run at those 2 & we will create chances & score a few. How's that for early Monday morning positivity?😎

  21. Very important game this. Best hope we pick up a win on tuesday to take off some pressure before the "free game" against Chelsea. After that we have 2 weeks rest which should do the team really well and set us up for a busy end to the season with 9 league games inside 5 weeks plus potential play off games. We really need to get Bola and McGree fit at least and hope for Payero to come in and some quality from the bench in the last games. I hope Wilder and the players are ready to show that the recent away games are a thing of the past now, and that we are ready to lead a charge for the pla

  26. Fry has looked every bit like one of the best defenders in the division for 90% of the time Wilder has been in charge. He's had his off days but I can't think of many games where he has stood out as the weak link, especially playing in the middle of the back 3. When he's not played well, there's a fair few others who you could argue have played as bad or worse. Never mind just in this league but he's also played very well against two of the best strikers in the business, especially considering his lack of top-division experience. So I'm not sure about the insinuation of the word 'finally' in t

  27. I don’t know, looking at their fixtures you can’t see where they will get points from their games in hand. Just seen an unreal stat. Everton have only won one away match all season - and that was their first one! And we think we have problems away from home!

  29. If that is your assessment of watmore who has been very good for us this season you must hate the other 3 senior strikers at the club because he's better than all of them by a long way.

  30. I think we need cover for Jones. He the only RWB we have as I fully expect Spence to leave. Dijksteel can play there but i don't think he comfortable and in any event he a right sided CB now. We cant go through a 46 game season with just one RWB imo

  31. Obviously its a hypothetical question but I don't mind answering it. We are a long way off being a Premier league team at the moment, so I could imagine another 2 transfer windows and building a better team at this level would give us a better chance of survival. Obviously no one would turn it down this season but we will be a long way from how Wilder envisions us ending up.

  33. Dimitar Berbatov and Mark Viduka are two of the most technically gifted strikers I've seen with the ball at their feet and they were both 6'2". Hell, even Peter Crouch in his prime, at a glorious 6'7", was better playing in sides where they made the most of his technical abilities over his height. Like Crooks in our side, there's advantages to it for sure. But unlike say Gestede, Hugill or Ikpeazu, there's more to these players than just being a player who can win a header.

Very lucky considering Martinez got two yellows but got away with it due to the penalties not being regarded as the same game, which doesn't really make sense to me

Yeah, I get that. Like last night, Real Madrid were played off the park by Man City but have scraped through to a major semi-final because City couldn't finish and they've scrapped away goals. Tonight, Aston Villa were lucky to beat Lille on penalties, who were much the better team on the night.

I suppose I'm the opposite.  I don't like penalty shoot outs, they have nowt to do with a game of football really.  Be like settling The Masters with a putting competition or something.  Obviously they are a necessary evil but I'd prefer matches to be sorted out with an actual game of football.  Agree about the FA Cup final but the FA bottled that one a while back by pandering to the Premier League.  It's quite a weak governing body unfortunately, and has been since they decided to cut their own throats and back the Premier League.  That was more about trying to stitch up the Football League than it was about the long term benefits to either themselves or football in general.  They stuffed themselves as well though the morons.
