Ridiculous to send Payero out on loan. He’s shown against Cardiff that he can compete at Championship level in my opinion. This one screams at a not fancied by Wilder and we’re happy to derail the director of football model as he’s not convinced by him. I am actually worried that we have learnt absolutely nothing if we plan on getting rid of him. If it’s a case of getting him up to speed in an English league then fair enough, but if it’s abroad then he’s a gonna.6 points

I hope we nurture payero and get him back firing as he showed against Cardiff if we get him inform he is one of the best players in this division. I'm excited and looking forward to him being involved in the side. Think he could provide the creative spark finding that final ball we badly miss. I think Sporar would of got alot more goals if payero was fit and playing providing assists5 points

Like last year when we signed Joe Lumley and Sammy Ameobi...4 points

We'll end up wasting Payero. He's talented with great technical ability. He's shown glimpses but has been hampered with injuries and managers not utilising him. A loan would be good if we can guarantee he plays regularly. I'd prefer to loan him to the more physical of leagues similar to ours although Italy or Spain will be most likely. Can't help but feel if we gave him a proper chance he'd be a real asset. His vision and range of passing is brilliant.4 points

I think your right. I Just had a look back and Warnock said this at the time “Initially Sol had asked if he could come and train with us, and I was more than happy. He’s a great lad to have around. "When we were away in Cornwall he was at Rockliffe and helped with the U23s and U18s, and everyone was really impressed with him. “I have to be honest, I didn’t expect him to look as sharp as he has done after everything he's been through, but he’s done remarkably well. "At the moment the priority for him is to concentrate on his fitness and being in the squad, but we want him3 points

I think Bamba was actually signed for that reason wasn't he? Think he was an emergency first teamer and an U23s coach signing. Don't think he was ever actually meant to play as much as he did.3 points

I would like to discuss Bamba entering the prestigious Uwe Fuchs club of cult heroes.3 points

Not the result we were looking for today. But it ends the Prediction League for 21/22. A huge thank you to all who have participated and for your efforts in predicting each week. Congratulations to @Blanco who has taken the title!3 points

Just shows they're on a plane, doesn't suggest they plan on coming back 😛2 points

The club didn't get it right with Spence, we got lucky.2 points

What is with the Payero love-in from some posters? Don’t get me wrong, he seems like a good lad and I hope it works out for him. But some of the talk about being one of the potential best midfielders in the league is premature imo. I don’t think think anybody has seen enough of him to make a claim like that. If it doesn’t work out, I’d blame the club more than Wilder. Spending upwards of 5m on a player that the current manager doesn’t want, and knowing fine well that there is going to be a change in manager within the next year - in hindsight it wasn’t our best idea.2 points

I know he played a few days before Preston, which is partly my point. The Preston game is the only one that mattered, and he was playing for the under 23's instead, and not involved at all in the important game. It can't be because he's not fit as he was on the bench for the previous two games so Wilder just hasn't involved him. Now, we can say that it was purely tactical, and Wilder just wanted defenders and strikers on the bench maybe. Fair enough I suppose, although if true it doesn't really speak well for Wilder in my opinion but I'm not convinced that it is true. If Wilder thought Pa2 points

The Stoke match made me change my view on whether Wilder wanted Payero or not. He was stripped, warming up, 2-0 and cruising, great opportunity for him to get some minutes. I even thought he got called back from warming up to come on…then he got told to sit down and Connolly was brought on. To boos. All Wilders talk of Payero having a chance, maybe being end of season hero thrown out of the window. Feel so sorry for the guy.2 points

The point of a Director of Football has never been to sign players without a managers input. It's to ensure there's a long term strategy at the club, regardless of the manager. Very few managers would join our club if they weren't allowed to have any input in which players we bring in.2 points
-
The one worry I do have with this set up is Wilder seems to be playing a key role in transfers and identifying players he wants. I though we were getting a director of football so the coach simply coaches the players he is given. Don't want this to go wrong come October we bottom half wilder is sacked and we hire new manager who plays different system and he needs all new players like we have seemed to be doing for last few years.2 points

Your dad already had the disappointing news many years ago mate 🤭2 points

Feel like Wilder needs a Leadbitter - a general on the pitch to raise the levels of others. Jonny's had a great season... But I sometimes wonder if we need someone a bit tougher and nastier in that central position to take the game by the throat when we're up against it. How often do we go to pieces and concede again straight after conceding one. No players springs to mind, others probably know better than me... But maybe a League 1 captain who can make the step up?2 points

After watching Payero vs Cardiff again it'd definitely be a shame if we decided to sell, I wonder if he could be our own Scott Twine playing just off the striker? Had some great linkup with Sporar that game2 points

Firstly many thanks to all who have contributed and posted to this seasons match day threads and for those authors who ensured that we had plenty to talk about, Boro have played 51 games this season and we have had in the region of 28700 posts throughout giving an average of 562 posts per game. This season has been the second best posted since we started doing this and had we had those final 3 games am sure we would have surpassed the 30k total. As far as the MDT authors are concerned and just for the fun of it here is the final table of those who volunteered their services this2 points

Sorry - I had some catching up to do. Think its probably a bit early for any serious transfer talk anyway. Things should start to get exciting around late August. 😜1 point

Yeah I know but he was in the squad, Wilder at least had him involved in those two games. For the final game he wasn't involved at all. I suppose he could have gotten less fit in that time, maybe gotten injured playing midweek, but it seems odd to include someone on the bench then remove them from the bench if you actually rate them. It's not like we had other midfielders who could step in either cos we didn't select any others. Siliki had been on the bench for a couple before Payero came back, Payero then replaced him essentially. Even assuming Payero isn't fully fit, he must have at lea1 point

I wished him well on Twitter. Hope he lands a coaching role somewhere.1 point

From the little I seen of payero he looked better than mcgree. He even looked OK against West Brom in a 442 with mcnair. Let's see which plodder wilder fancies to replace him with hopefully he can run through brick walls for us.1 point

Would be a good boost to the end of the season if we did announce 2-3 good free agent signings wouldn’t it.1 point

yeah definetly. Hopefully he puts a great pre-season in to get a chance, he at least good enough for me to try work into the team from the bench1 point

He will want to play as first choice and that may push him to a move, but if he wants he can just sit tight and take his pay from Boro for the next year. So it maybe depends what wages Warnock offered him last year. Could be we have to pay him to get him off books. After all there must be a reason Stojanovic only took loan deals and not a transfer.1 point

Well Given I forgot to post on 2 or 3 occasions, I am well happy with that result in my maiden season. I am currently in negotiation with a new Head Coach. Given my occasional forgetfulness, my head needs a decent coach to keep me on track to get my selections done in time. Congrats to @Blanco, a sterling performance and worthy winner. A special thank you to @Youngy228 whom without his giving up of valuable time to process the competition and all the data, I would not have been able to brag to family & friends about my excellent mid-table mediocrity. I am now officially know1 point

While I feel like I know fairly well what Wilder wants from new signings in GK, CB, LCB, LWB and DM etc, I feel like I really don't know what he wants from our strikers. Clearly the two young, mobile lads Balogun and Connolly that Wilder signed in January didn't work out. In my opinion, we need at least one striker that's far more of a physical presence such as Riis and then a mix of options, including a striker that can drop deeper and link up play like Twine and an experienced poacher that knows what the Championship is all about. However, I really don't know what Wilder wants from our strik1 point

Should have been put inside for life after the Forest and QPR games 😡1 point

Goalkeepers signed by Boro since promotion - Valdes, Guzan, Randolph, Lonergan, Mejias, Stojanovic, Bettinelli, Archer, Lumley, Daniels. Only one has managed more than 50 games for us. Some were signed as back ups of course but still not great is it. You've pretty much got Dimi and Randolph as the only two signings to make a real mark in a decade.1 point

I would be disappointed to see Bola leave. Thought he was excellent before his injury. If we sign a new left wing back, surely we need him as back up for a long hard season. Taylor less so.1 point

Regarding the GK coach. Darren Ward was Wilders GK coach at Sheff Utd and Dean Henderson was very complimentary about the role Ward played in his development. Think Ward is currently unattached so he could be coming in.1 point

Just like the Boro I failed to turn up for the last game 🤦♂️ well done @Blanco double champion But a special mention to @Youngy228 for organising and running this competition you did an outstanding job 👏👏👏1 point

Will definitely watch this later, cheers His book "How NOT to be a professional footballer" is a great read as well, goes into quite a bit of detail about his time at Boro and living with his brother and Gazza. He's not particularly flattering towards the club itself but does say he loved the fans. Obviously it's more about his time and escapades at Arsenal, hence me buying it but it's pretty eye opening at times.1 point

I don’t care what colour we play but can we include a GPS to show the goal location and an altitude meter to keep the ball under the bar. Possibly a neck brace ensuring players look up.1 point

You lot are determined to make this the lowest posted MDT of the season......................so far!! Anyway we owe it to the rest of the league to field our strongest possible starting 11 giving Hoppe the chance to strut his stuff😉
