  1. The way some react negatively to us being linked with some players that aren't exciting names, you'd think we were in the Premier League and not the reality of us being a Championship side in the very early stages of a long-term rebuild that has to be done a sensible budget. Wilder's 2018/19 promotion winning Sheffield United team didn't have any particularly exciting names and or big fees spent, yet they were an incredibly high performing team, so I see them as a decent template for us to expect as we build our team in line with our long-term strategy.

  2. and those £20m players include players like Neal Maupay, Adam Webster & Ben Godfrey, none of whom are "in the wrong league" or "unbelievable unique talent". Just under the £20m mark? Bloody Oli McBurnie at £17m!! (Don't you dare Mr Wilder!)

  3. I've watched Spence a few times this season at different points and been pretty impressed with him throughout. Jones hasn't been that impressive for a couple of months either and we've had the odd crank on our side thinking he's perhaps not as good as he quite consistently showed us for the first three-quarters of the season. I wouldn't reduce my asking price for Jones based on the final quarter or so.

  4. 100% agree with this. I'm starting to wonder how much of the impact upon his reputation is based on having Steve Cooper as a manager and Brennan Johnson in front of him

  5. Karl Darlow (Newcastle) Aged 31, with Newcastle desperately needing to offload players. £2.5m-£3.0m should secure his signature. Experienced keeper with 200+ appearances and highly proven at Championship level. Michael Cooper (Plymouth) Aged 22, would be available for under £1m. Fantastic season in League One with 18 clean sheets in 46 league games. 100+ professional appearances. Young, hungry and good with both the ball at his feet and distribution. Daniel Iverson (Leicester, on loan at Preston) Aged 24, not sure on the fee but possible around £3.5m-£4.0m. Performed r

  7. Gibson aside, I have been quite underwhelmed with the names that have been linked upto now. I'm hoping that genuine targets are not in the public domain as of right now due to the fact that we are trying to go about our business quietly and securing some decent deals on free agents. I'll be really frustrated if after this new operating model has been discussed and implemented, kind of mirroring GMs in US sports, we end up with a similar shortlist of players as we would have done previously i.e. ex-players and or ex-Sunderland/Newcastle players....as we get linked to Ross Stewart in

  9. I don't think it's loans that he made to the club, I believe it's loans that were taken out to fund the purchase of the club. The money was borrowed from the good people at MSD, which is where a chunk of the Derby County money was also owed. Part of the agreement was that if Burnley were relegated then the balance would have to be paid immediately rather than interest payments only being required for the first few years. Burnley apparently have £50m in cash reserves so they aren't struggling for money, they will inevitably sell some players I guess as well. Unfortunately, you have a club in

  10. Is it time we opened the wallet for proven quality , or the purse for bargain basement.

  11. Injuries. Reading had loads at the end of the season. Swift missed 7 of the last 11 games.

  12. me neither, historically and this is before covid 15 mill typically is max value of most championship players, have to be someone in the wrong league or unbelievable unique talent to go for anything drastically more. I wonder how many people were wanting to sponser his taxi ride on them for a transfer for pennies start of last season but are now going to be like well we want £25 mill min lol

  13. The Forest forums seem quite happy with him. He was ok against Bournemouth and Sheffield United while Forest were the better side. When they were on the back foot he was obviously less impressive but in fairness that's what happens when you're a right back/right wing back and you're mostly defending. I don't remember seeing him making loads of defensive mistakes, which for a player that 'can't defend' is pretty good going against the better teams in the league while they are under the cosh. They hype is irrelevant, that's just nonsense for the media to lap up. Clubs will have been watchin

  16. soon see his real value once a deal is done, can't see anything more than 15 mill getting pushed through myself, maybe less with covid still got a little hang over on the transfer market a bit still

  17. Might have just been the twitter algorithm, or it may just be them trying to downplay the fee for their own benefit, but I saw a surprising number of Forest fans yesterday saying that Spence hasn't actually been that impressive since February and they don't agree with the fees mentioned. Obviously it could just be the odd crank, though I'll admit I was not overly impressed by him in the Bournemouth and Sheffield United games (the only ones I've watched since the FA Cup). Hopefully the scouts of Premier League clubs see it differently or the club buys in to the media hype.

  19. its early days yet, and it tends to be quick fixes named early on to plug the holes in the squad. The bigger signings will probably come later in the window when the season is fully over. Also, i feel like were probably waiting on bids to come in our for players like spence so we know exactly what were working with money wise. Saying that, apart from the strikers weve been linked with (Rhodes, Grabban, Greogry) i don't mind the others iv seen: id be Quite happy for Gibson, think he would instantly be one of the best centre backs in the league depite what others think. 20. think its down to your service as well, the service he gets won't be anywhere near as effective as it is in the championship. if he was playing for a champions league team he may well get a decent tally, but in prem he's played for newcastle and fulham so them previous runs were never going to be as dominant as they were in the championship.

  21. I'm not sure that the phrase lazy journalism is accurate. The guys have an allocated space they have to fill every day. There is currently no or at least very little football. Hence they have to fill the space with something. They will probably have most of theri contacts off on holiday as the season is finished and will be restarting again in a week or twos time. It is a huge problem for them. Transfer speculation is one of the main ones that is useful but accurate speculation is difficult as most of the main players are away on holiday. As far as tight lipped is concerned it

  22. That's a fair point, but I wouldn't say mostly. Warnock had only been here one full season, and I don't know how much the squad were suited to his playing style either. Wilder's squad had signings from Monk, Pulis and Woodgate in too, whereas Kompany would be taking a squad of players entirely signed by Dyche.

  23. If there really is anything in the constant links we have with Newcastle and Sunderland players every year, it's probably the proximity. The players will already be based relatively nearby, the games will be easier for scouts/coaches to go watch, including reserves/U23s. I don't think it's entirely out of the question that there is a challenge in asking players to move from the south to the north (as much as it is sometimes overblown) but we maybe get linked with them as we may well watch them more just because they're close by.

  24. I think you should tell the cynical you to keep quiet because those thoughts are nonsense. Didn't cynical you listen to any of Howson's interviews?

  25. According to Transfermarkt he is right footed so we can breathe a sigh of relief.

  26. Why are we being linked with every Newcastle player going?! We'll be asking if Steve Howey is left footed next

  27. All I know about Kompany is a Guy named Tomlin turned him inside out

  28. I don't know much about Kompany's style of football, but I feel like he'd need quite a big turnover of players who've been had Dycheball ingrained into them, and obviously bought with that style in mind.

  32. He has a good save percentage like. Saying that, my nan would be an improvement on Lumley and she's dead. I reckon we might have a job shifting him to be honest. Who in their right mind would watch his blunder reel from this season and take a punt on him?

  33. Balogun was a strange one I actually really like him and would love to get him back, I know he didn't exactly pull up trees but I thought he was starting to grasp what the Championship was all about and was the sidelined for some unknown reason. I reckon with a full preseason he could become a right handful in this league, my only concern is weather there was some sort of fallout which led to his omission from the starting 11 towards the end. Watch him sign for someone like Swansea on loan next season and bag 20 odd goals

  34. Pulis was out of contract. Wilder would not be. I'd like us to actually go back to patience with managers, unless the football and results are absolutely catastrophic.

  35. Tav is critical to our midfield. Covers every blade and on-his-day is a proper player.

  36. This is it. Look at last summer, only crooks you can say came in and definitely improved our starting 11. Everyone else was a bit part player or no better than what we had last season. We need at least 4 players who are definitely better than what we had this season - gk, 2 strikers and a lwb. At that point you can be looking at squad players and or other areas that we could improve in (namely midfield and lcb). But the majority of our budget has to go on those 4 imo.

  37. I agree I’m not a big fan either. I don’t like the way that he sticks to a fixed formation rather than accommodating the players that he has I know it is a bug bare of mine but I hate 532 and wingbacks…I love a marauding winger or an inside forward. 532 feels very old fashioned to me. As for his signings…I think most of us could see the flaws in them and for all the talk of Kieron Scott…I do think it’s Wilder that will have the last word on signings which is worrying. Sure we did have a bit of a new manager bounce and that was refreshing but it’s all gone a bit flat and I r
