I've said my worth on Carrick & feel im just going round with the same words now, as sounds likely, Gibbo is backing him then thats good enough for me, whether I think its right is another matter, Gibbo has done so much for this football club & continues to so that Carrick will get my backing next season & hope, upon hope, he reads what people have said, listened, takes it all in & thrives next season & I can happily eat humble pie5 points

Whilst I am keen as any Boro fan to know for certain if Carrick remains or goes, this idea that the club NEEDS to communicate to the fans or staff within the club need to come out and give an interview is utter nonsense. They do not need to do j**k ***. Just because we are part of social media world where impatience is rife, does not mean the club needs to reply to satisfy the twitch we fans have. 1. Danny Rohl cast doubt on his future several weeks ago but no one at Sheff Wed has said jack. 2 WBA not had a manager since April and there been radio silence from them until today when Ryan Mason name has come out 3. Leicester have failed to confirm if Ruud will be their manager next season or not but were relegated before the championship season ended I think. 4. QPR placed their manager on gardening leave 5 weeks ago. No information from them as to whether he coming back or going. Clubs generally are a professional organisation and run as such. If there something worth saying, they will say it. If not then assume its business as usual. Clubs generally do not operate to satisfy thirsty fans on social media. If you want regular interaction from your club then go support Hull as that guy never seems to stfu.3 points

I've gave up now in regards to calling for his sacking. I will give him until the second international break to see if there's a sign he's learning and we're looking good. if we're struggling or nothings changed then I imagine he will be sacked then. Im going to back him now. It's pointless drowning myself in my own thoughts about him as they are not positive ones.3 points

Exactly that. As the last few seasons have shown, Gibson has tended to fund the operating losses out of his own pocket while the money from transfer sales has been kept for future transfers and loan fees. I don't see that changing unless we run into PSR issues which doesn't seem very likely. On that front, the ยฃ20m or so from the Tav and Spence sales drop out of the PSR balance now but the way that PSR works, the ยฃ40m+ from Rogers, Chuba, ELL are still counting as positives while our negatives will be about ยฃ20m/year in amortization losses so we have a hefty PSR balance from player trading of somewhere around ยฃ20m plus what we get for sales this summer. We're about as good as you can get in PSR terms in the Championship without parachute payments. Gibson will still likely have to put in somewhere up to ยฃ10m to cover operating losses.3 points

I see Callum Doyle is looking for a permanent move. As a naturally left-sided centre back he would be perfect for us and has a decent amount of Championship experience. Norwich used him as both a left back and centre back so if we were to flip our full backs so that the left-sided one is more defensive he would be ideal. I suspect he's out of our price range. While Carrick has been great for developing attackers, I can see a young defender like Doyle being really wary of getting ruined by our defensive shambles over the last two seasons. I can see Sunderland going for him. It will be interesting to see whether Sunderland follow the Ipswich model of buying the best Championship players or they try to stock up on as much tried and tested Premier league experience as they can in the hope that they can provide enough of a spine that their best youngsters really step up.3 points

Well obviously they donโt have to, but considering the club canโt exist without the fans itโs a good idea to take the temperature and realize when itโs a good idea to communicate with your fans. Unless they are complete morons in the club, they must realize just how much under pressure carrick is from a large part of the fan base. Now itโs not the fans jobs to run the club, but if the club has decided to keep him surely it would be in everyoneโs best interest to come out and give some thoughts on next season. We donโt really need to know why theyโve kept him on but itโs been utter silence for a month and everything considered itโs a pretty poor strategy. It does make you wonder though, whether they really have any idea how the fanbase feels. Are they really that ignorant?2 points

I also agree that there would be zero harm in club sending out a communication, article or doing an interview. However its this entitlement that we are owed one and failing to provide one is a sign of incompetence, embarrassment or unprofessionalism. You really think rest of football world is looking at our club thinking โwow, what a circus that football club isโ. Absolutely not.2 points

At the moment not a lot. The club expects the fans to pay through the nose yet continues to disappoint. I find Boro incredibly underwhelming at the moment and Carrick to be utterly useless.2 points

Tbh I think it wouldnโt hurt to do some kind of article talking about next season, transfer plans and as you say addressing mistakes of last season, even just a fluff piece. It would be pretty easy to slip something in there article that makes it obvious Carrick is staying.2 points

The Kits will be on a slow boat from China, remember we have to order them ten years in advance because Mary from Accounts isn't very sharp at negotiating and it takes all them faxes and countersignatures to get it over the line. Just keep checking the DHgate website, they'll be on there before Boro know it. Actually maybe that's a bit unfair on Mary because they usually need 72 hours.2 points

Where Boro are concerned things are likely to get worse before our fortunes improve. I think the next big milestone in the history of the club will be when Gibson decides to invite new investors into the club,or indeed decides to sell up. I think he will be looking for new investment, and fairly soon. To be fair he has ploughed an enormous amount of money into Boro and the fans are deeply grateful. I really hope there are investors out there waiting in the wings. I suspect they are. Who knows talks may already be under waye. The club at the moment is rather stale and lacking momentum. New money ,new ideas and new hope will get the fans flocking back to the Riverside. Let's face it if Birmingham City and Wrexham can be rejuvated so can Boro.2 points

I have a lot of respect for what Gibson has done for us over the decades and don't doubt that his heart is in the right place, but he's often got many managerial appointments very wrong and knee-jerked between contrasting managers. There's enough of a track record to show that he's terrible at it. Gibson has the authority to do so by virtue of being our owner, but just because he funds the club, it doesn't mean that he needs to be the one making the key decisions. A good owner knows when to take a back seat on key decisions when they know they're not very good at it. Anytime I hear Gibson being involved in decision-making about football matters I'm very concerned, especially when it's someone that he personally likes. He's also appointed the likes of Adrian Bevington and Gary Gill to head of recruitment roles that they were terrible at, but he liked them personally so that was enough to him. So long as Scott is in agreement with keeping Carrick, albeit with restrictions and support provided, then I'm fine with it. I have far more respect for Scott's decision-making about football matters as he's actually made his way up the football ladder and oversees the inner workings of the club on a day to day basis. But most importantly he doesn't have Gibson's terrible track record of decision-making.2 points

Groundhog Day โฆ Get over it boys as Carrick is staying. Do I think he is the best manager we have ever had โฆNo โฆ but he will be ok with the right players , and this is where Scott has to earn his corn. I Know Carrick said he was happy with his squad in January but what else was he supposed to say! It probably was if he could have got McGree on the pitch and at least some of his defenders! As for losing the fans I think a few on here are overstating their own views. Fans are fickle and if Carrick starts well then all will be forgiven.2 points

This is an interesting point I hadn't properly considered before, despite Luton's heavy amount of EFL recruitment when they went up (perhaps because of how it went for them in some sense, too). Do teams getting promoted go into the Prem do more to prepare for the season after, where good player investment could set you up for a more successful Championship season after relegation and lead you, over the long term, more capable of taking more of the top division pie. Is it a long, long game strategy of protecting your chances of re-earning your top division status over immediately throwing everything at staying up at first attempt and having to build again each time. It sounds ludicrous and probably is not what teams are going for, players wouldn't really buy into that after all, I'm sure, they're there to compete. But I wouldn't be shocked to see it is part of the plan at a higher level. It's so glaringly obvious how even the teams who destroy the Championship can't handle the Prem and crazy ideas are obviously being rumoured, if not acted upon, like Farke getting sacked by Leeds after promotion to immediately plan for and support a supposedly better manager.2 points

Aye. Carrick has taken his brunt of the criticism now. That won't stop if he's still doing a bad job but it's only become more obvious how much of the job you have to do for him in order for him to succeed. If you want to get promoted with this squad, get a better manager. If you want to get promoted with this manager, get a better squad. That's on Scott and Gibson. They've made their choice. It's a bold strategy, let's see if it pays off for them.2 points
-
I have confidence that Carrick can get us into the play offs again if given the right tools. Is he a manager who will get the best of a bunch of misfits? Absolutely not. But now we've decided to keep him on, surely we've acknowledged this and intend to give him everything he needs to implement his style of play. It's all on Gibson and Scott now tbh. We have seen carricks weaknesses, they're glaringly obvious. If we keep going with him and don't provide him with the squad he needs then that's not his fault, it's theirs. Of course if we have a wonder transfer window and are still struggling, then that's where Carrick takes the blame. But you wouldn't yell at a painter for not doing a good job on your walls if you give him a feather instead of a brush. Well... you shouldn't anyway.2 points

The gazette posted a couple of months ago about lack of connection between the fans and the club. No doubt performances contributed. What better way to take the pressure off Carrick than a public backing and to rally all fans. Add in a couple of new signings and Carrick will stand a chance with renewed optimism. Radio silence will not help any one. Sliding in โMichael Carricks Middlesbrough will take on rangersโ into an article is completely ignoring the fans imo. Hoping the failure of last season will all be forgotten about. As if it never happened1 point

You've just given 3 examples of clubs behaving poorly and then West Brom filling a vacant managerial position. Sheffield Wednesday aren't even paying their players on time, they're not a club to point to when trying to excuse things.1 point

I am struggling with this argument, are you saying that Carrick didnโt have the โrightโ kind of player this last season? If that is your stance then what was the right kind of player that he should have had, if not defined by value then by what? Also are you in effect saying that Carrick has not had a say in who arrives at the training ground, my understanding is that he pushed for Giles and Iheanscho, or is that not true. I am not being argumentative I genuinely am trying to understand where you are coming from as it may help my negative mood when it is finally announced that Carrick and all his coaches will remain unchanged for the new season1 point

It's a useful piece to be getting out there as apart from the Parachute Clubs, Boro will be viewed as cash rich after some impressive sales recently. The truth of the article may be bang on the money or a million miles off it (which I suspect) either way Scott can plead poverty.1 point

That's very interesting then. Apologies, I was rushing out last night so glance read Transfermarkt wrong. Japanese clubs and the FA are incredibly progressive. Their FA follows a "Players First" approach, which emphasises that decisions are made with the player's best interests in mind - so when European clubs that have a track record of developing players show interest in their players they're good clubs to deal with. So I'm glad that Chris Jones seems to have a relationship with the likes of FC Tokyo as it's a great opportunity for us. Talking about Asian football generally, it baffles me that up until last year Chinese youth footballers didn't started playing football until they're 13 year old. That means they miss out on the crucial early age to develop motor skills/coordination, which obviously massively limits their higher level skills. The Chinese Government implemented reforms last year to make significant improvements in their youth development as they're well behind everyone else in the world, and even within Asia where the likes of Japan and South Korea are significantly ahead of them.1 point

Your choice of words is utterly astounding. It's alright in your view if he ignores Nobby, for example. But you started throwing the shade rather than being helpful and just pointing BU in the direction you meant. You didn't have to respond in the way you did, you chose to. Honestly, some people like yourself act like this is a job people get paid for the way they talk about it. Not just the MSF rep but modding as well. Like in this conversation, it's like we keep a bloody bible of all that's been spoken about ever on oneBoro, like this is some kind of sophisticated software where you ask a simple question and we have access to every opinion ever made about it. At least CT has made a reasonable suggestion for how to resolve that, whether time allows for it or not. I put a lot into that role when I did it, especially at the start. And I trust BU does the same. But it's not a job. It's a really good opportunity to share the floor with fans from all walks of life I won't lie about that but any investment of time and effort comes from the willingness to be there and fight the cause for fellow fans, every rep in that group was the same in my time there, whether we agreed or disagreed, they're all there for the right reasons. The implication that this isn't the case can get right in the bin.1 point

Nonsense. it's all Scott's fault. If he'd delivered DeBruyne, Haaland, Gundogan, Grealish, Foden, Gvardiol etc. we'd have walked the Championship last season. In Carrick we trussed!1 point

Fans been crying out for years for a midfielder who scores and assists, we get one and they want him gone....you couldn't write it! Yes, he occasionally goes missing in big games but his numbers don't lie. We should be getting pace around Azaz and play him in tge number 10 and he would flourish even more. It's no coincidence that his form dropped slightly when we missed the pace of Doak1 point

So nothing new from Dom other than confirming interest in the 2 which is good. Remember he said Dieng wasn't joining about 2 hours before he did, so does get some bum steers from the club. Maybe they want to keep the Louie Barry stuff locked down until it's done. And things change too. Villa really might want to get a deal done and the terms might now be very good.

He's too good for the Championship, so not sure what your argument there is. I don't think Middlesbrough are better than the Portuguese league, I think Hackney is. He's been getting rave reviews for two and half years now, there's a reason so many clubs are interested in him.
