I think going into the season it was fair enough though, surely?
You'd never have expected us to be 4/4, you'd have never have expected us to have had the window we've had in the end.
I think they are fair assumptions, but also goes to show how pointless it is making predictions when the window is still open!
Like Al I will be glad to see the back of this thread but my last word isn’t on Hackney it is on Morris. The lad has been superb so far and is almost Ngolo Kante in his ability to win the ball and get it to a teammate. If he continues in this vein he is going to be worth serious money.
That is after he has kept us in the prem for a season of course!
Our squad + our coaching team seems to give us as good a chance as anyone of going up this year. We will need luck, which we seem to be getting a bit of. We need the rotation of players to work. We need the new boys to settle in. Sene seemed to know his job on Saturday so that's a good start.
All in all, we have given ourselves a chance. The more we keep clean sheets, the more we start to convert chances we make obviously the better our chance.
As others have said, dealing with setbacks will be huge. Not losing 5 or 6 on the bounce will be key.
I predict a very exciting season with some really good games. The atmosphere in Saturday bodes well. WBA at home will be a good test and win or lose, will show where we are. We might not win, but how we play and the players mentality in tough home game will be key.
The attitude of Morris after Saturday was telling. He wasn't happy. He wanted to get straight on with planning for Preston. I think that sort of attitude is infectious.
I’m not worried about January, if he goes it will be because we’re way off the pace. If we’re still looking strong and not much has changed then I don’t think he’ll go in January.
I suspect that with HH he, like the Club generally, has flown under the radar to a large extent due to some underwhelming results last season and disappointing finish.
Because we haven't been seriously challenging, our players haven't caught the attention which appears is to our benefit with HH. If we continue this current form throughout the season expect some silly offers in January and then some ludicrous ones next summer, by which time we will all be packing our suitcases for the Premiership.
I could do a serialisation of my life story which would feature various minor celebrities that I have encountered along the way. Francis Benali, Charlie Dimmock, Adrian Durham, Patsy Kensit and Paul Mooney from BBC Look North Weather to name a few ?
That would certainly keep traffic up 👍
video compilation of Hackney, football scout put together. if we didnt know who he was would you be excited to sign him seeing this? i could watch him all day. when he leaves us he should be going to a champions league side imo. i love him.
Some people went a bit overboard with negativity before seeing who we'd actually signed.
But anyone saying we'd be top, 4 for 4, and one goal conceded would have been laughed off the board!
I think for what ever sticks if they get their team together they might be capable of grabbing what I expect will be 6 points back, might make autos harder but if there was a league you can put together some decent form in and make a points deduction disappear its this league - given how many teams area always so inconsistent, especially early in the season start, always seems like many teams take some time to get going at this point.
Not going to defend myself and have been clear and fair in my explanation we will still have transfer window threads to look forward to instead of a thread that has at times gone out of control.
As far as your last comment I have to read each and every post and if you have a complaint or need to refer to me in a derogatory manner then please contact @oneboro about it.
I know that this is a mickey take following my earlier post but really to post this thread is far too earlier and is meant to disrupt my previous comments.
I said I would start a thread where similar content could be posted so I am left with a choice of locking this or simply allowing the mick to be taken.
This was not called for and did not need to be up until December time.
Meeting you all half way am fine with this new thread title but please wait until December before posting the winter build up thread
This day the 3rd September 1977
West Brom 2 Boro 1
John Neals 4th game as Boro manager, his 2nd away game.
A Boro legend make his final appearance
A record signing making his Boro debut
An opposing player, with a massive future for WBA makes his debut & a future Boro manager scores for the opposition
The late, great, Willie Maddren, who made 340 appearances, scoring 21 goals for the mighty Boro, played his final 1st team game for the Boro
Billy Ashcroft signed from Wrexham in midweek for a club record £135k made his debut
Cyril Regis making & scoring on his debut for WBA
Peter Brine made his last Boro away appearance
Two goals in 5 minutes in the 1st half put WBA in the driving seat, on 15 minutes, future Boro manager, Bryan Robson scores from close range to put WBA one up & within 5 minutes, Cyril Regis scores on his debut to double their lead
In the 47th minute David Mills pulled a goal back for the Boro & for a while the game went from end to end & with a few minutes remaining David Mills hits the bar & our final chance of getting something out of the game had gone & with that, the Boro suffered their 1st defeat of the season
Laurie Cunningham's debut season for WBA, Bryan Robson was in his 2nd season & Cyril Regis making his debut, they had some team back then
John Neals team.
Jim Platt
John Craggs
Terry Cooper
Peter Brine
Stuart Boam
Willie Maddren
John Mahoney
David Mills
Billy Ashcroft
Tony McAndrew
David Armstrong
Sub
Graeme Hedley
John Neal wasn't very far from building a very good team back then that could challenge the best of them, the board however.....
Something similar to this has been introduced in GAA this past season, though not for all of the time the balls out of play. Basically, they kept the match the same length but got rid of injury time - the clock stops for sub, injuries, cards, rows, that kind of thing, but it continues to run for free kicks etc. Its worked pretty well to be fair, the games have had a lot less time wasting this year.
One thing that they did that would go against what you say, the final whistle (or hooter as it is now) doesn't go until a shot is either scored or put wide or if the ball is kicked out to touch. This means that opposition players wouldn't be able to give away corners or do bad tackles just to end the game if they're winning.
Got a couple of Leicester supporting mates and they seem to think 12 is a possibility but unlikely unless the book is thrown at them.
(side note - same said mates managed to get a personalised video message from Pontus Kaamark for my 40th last year which was quite cool)
It is absolutely mind boggling to me that in a world where prem clubs are punting 30m on random squad players from unknown leagues none of them took Hackney for 20-25m.
Wharton is the most obvious comparison and as good as Wharton is i actually think Hackney has more strings to his bow. Especially in his attacking play and carrying the ball forward. Their loss is our gain.
Hi Codger
When I suggest players , the hard bit for me is knowing what the decision makers are thinking, so my suggestions tend to cover all scenarios.
Marcelo Ryan CF £2m the low risk
To get promoted we need to be better than our rivals, so quality and experience counts .
I am happy with our window .
Malanda very welcome , he will upgrade Lenihan or Edmundson
Targett is quality, Arfsten would upgrade Bangura .
A fit Bajcetic loan would have been an upgrade on Browne , and a possible permanent transfer If it worked out.
Happy with Browne , maybe we will revisit Bajcetic in January.
Pandur was my choice to replace Dieng .
CM - our 2 are class - HH and HM , Vanja Dragojevic is a future star , I would like him and Bajcetic as the cover .
IF we do stay top by January, I would love us to go for it ,
Burgzorg ,Gilbert , Hamilton, Finch the players I would upgrade, with
Kaio Jorge £15m loan to buy option
Franculino £25m loan to buy option
Yuri Alberto £20m loan to buy option
Vanja Dragojevic £1m buy
£60m - £70m for 3 premier league ready forwards. Loans key financially .
Hopefully Conway , Sene , Strelec , Nypan ,Hansen , Whittaker can keep us top until January. UTB
Who died and made you God?
Why do you get to decide which threads are used and which aren't?
Lighten up - if you don't want to read the transfer thread, don 't open it.
What exactly are you sick and tired of and why is it an eyesore exactly? It's just posters posting their thoughts on the same thread?
Anyway i've helped you out with a new thread, so we're sorted now 😁
Seems a shame to lose this one though..

The Thread is dead, long live the Thread!
Hip, hip, hooray!
Seriously though, I'm in agreement with Downsouth, it's like many of my posts, gone on far too long!
Yes he has played a blinder this window and well done to @Tarmo Kink Army really appreciate your input and all the others who posted even though some were off the mark but hey we are used to that on the forum
We always had two with a few weeks in between to allow us to evaluate new players, playing style and results.
We were better equipped in giving honest appraisal and observations and the tenuous links to develop
Want to see that return
Scrap penalties in knockout competitions.
Instead, if the game is drawn at the end of extra time, the players should have to swap their boots over and wear them on the wrong feet.
They would then play on until someone scores.
My first wish is to win our next game away at Preston then Mr Nice guy Rob Edwards, his team & our fantastic chairman Ste Gibson will go down in the record books becoming the first Boro team to win their first opening five league games
