  1. That's good communication. Being the primary source of the news, setting expectations, being clearer about the necessity for fan feedback. It's good to see them jump on this. Exciting stuff.

Scored some important goals, gave me one of my best away days ever (Bolton away) and just comes across as a really nice and humble guy.

  3. I'm sick as a dog so spent some time watching League 1 footage last night... I know I'll get the "NoT tHe LoWeR lEaGuE!" brigade for this, but as highlighted by recent posts there's some real talent in there at the moment. Obviously not players to build a side around, but signing 2-3 who can push for a place could be a shrewd move and profitable in the long term. Marc Leonard is having an amazing loan at Northampton from Brighton. 5 goals and 6 assists from Midfield, and having just turned 22 you'd imagine he'd jump at the chance to join Boro in the summer. 4. Just one day short of 12 months before scoring the only goal of the game at home to Oxford United to guarantee us promotion to the top flight David Armstrong started his amazing consecutive appearance run For me, one of the best ever players to come through the ranks of the mighty Boro, when he played on this day David had started his 13th game of his short career to date at the Boro, unaware of what he was about to achieve at our club Between April 1972 to 27th January 1973 Spike had made 12 first team appearances, rested for the following 7 games then recalled. 8. Was just watching the inside matchday against Blackburn. After Silvera's airkick, Blackburn clear it to Dolan and he has a clear run with the ball. Greenwood spots the danger and takes him down from behind. No messing, gets a yellow card. Cynical but that could have saved us a point. I can't say I'm a huge enthusiast for him but I wonder if an awful lot of what he does is underrated. The game intelligence and willingness to do what it takes is something you probably can't coach.

  14. It's a great idea having International breaks with Clubs having players travelling from the four corners of the Globe and with one day less for the Managers and Players alike to prepare for games over a Bank Holiday weekend. Either the International bodies need to give their heads a shake (especially as many of them seem to have been friendlies) or the domestic leagues need to get their act together when arranging fixtures.

  18. I recognise a small number of them. I agree that we should definitely be looking at some of these, especially those on loan from Prem teams who have had a successful season in league 1. A lot does depend on our goals next season. Next season is the last season that we can count the profit from the Tav and Spence sales towards our PSR limit so it is the last chance to spend relatively lavishly as we'll also be able to count the profits from Akpom and Rogers plus anyone else we sell. If we are making a serious promotion push then I think we need 3-4 immediate first choice signings of t

  19. I think the dwindling post count in recent MDTs is emblematic of the fact our season is basically over. It feels as if the club have given up on this season, so it's unsurprising some fans have, too. I ignored the last game entirely, checked the score at 5pm (it was 0-0), added one post on here and went off to do something more enjoyable. There is a stagnant malaise around the club right now which has been engendered by poor performances, an awful January transfer window (and a pretty dodgy summer one before that), a seemingly endless injury list and the ST prices PR fiasco. 20. Not knowing anything about it all, I'd assumed the rainbow thing was more of a symbol than meant to be a form of identification so to speak? Like I thought the idea was that all of the colours represented all of the different sexualities and genders etc. But is the rainbow actually meant to bring together all of the different flags into one overall flag? It's a different and much deeper subject not really suitable for this thread but if you promote exclusivity by separating yourselves into different groups then you're never going to get the inclusivity you are striving for. That's not

  21. But they haven't have they? I mean the colours aren't those colours so I don't think it's specifically that. The outrage now all of a sudden if you want to call it that is I suspect because in recent times symbols seem to be becoming more and more important across the board, no matter what your beliefs are. If they weren't important then nobody would bother with rainbow laces or lighting up things in one colour or another to show support for whatever causes. Somebody mentioned culture wars up above. It's not something I know much about or spend any time thinking about but I would imagine

  24. I dont think Silveria is playing for his future. I think on the whole he has had a positive season. Scored some important goals and shown some good signs but there are clear weaknesses in his game that he needs to improve on. However, with Silveria, we were buying a player who had shown good signs but still had areas of growth. Think, he like Engel, will be much better for having this season under his belt and will kick on next season.

  25. TBF, as a young player he has been pretty well admired. Arsenal spent £500k on him as a 16-year old apparently and Leeds got him involved whilst they were still in the Prem. He got on the pitch a fair bit but only started 4 games, though. It's possible that Scott even looked at him before Leeds took him from Arsenal, if you include his time at Norwich. The fouling just feels like someone who is putting all his energy into the wrong actions on the pitch. And maybe that has come from this being his first proper season as a first-team player. He's played 70% of all his first team minutes her

  26. International games need to be seriously curtailed, there are far too many of them. Back in the good old days they were just played in the summer or mid week and the Players reported back to their Clubs for duty at the weekends with league fixtures carrying on as normal. The various Tournaments also need to be aligned so that Players are all unavailable at the same time. Likewise all the European Club fixtures have become tedious and an overkill but it's all about the money. Given the opportunity I'd cancel them altogether but I know that would be unpopular with many. Bah Humbug!

  32. Aye, of all those Katongo and Potts are the two I was most excited about in terms of what we need and what they'd provide. Katongo/Ayling and Howson/Potts would both be good options. Though a permanent alternative to Potts would be a bosman Alan Browne, who I'd also be happy with. Marc Leonard would excite me as a potential Hackney replacement though, if it came to that. He looks bloody incredible across the spectrum of all central midfield positions.
    2 points
  33. Agreed and, as Leo did with Hackney, I think he needs to commit to actually giving them time to play rather than just letting them watch a game from the bench. I don't know who's fit for Soton but we have learned that Latte Lath is much more effective with a strike partner and we're much more solid playing 3 at the back. Assuming Forss isn't available then don't play Silvera or Greenwood alongside Latte Lath, start Finch. The only way a player improves is to play alongside and against players who are better than him. After 60 minutes playing against a top 4 team he'll have learned more than a

  34. I'd much prefer Norton Cuffy... McNamara hasn't made a single goal contribution this season, and only managed 1 assist in 46 Championship games last season. I know Goal Contribution aren't everything for a FB, but when you're supposedly, a 'forward thinking' full back you'd expect at least a 5 across a full season. Watching Millwall last season too, I don't see anything in his game which suggests he's able to find anything more dynamic, and at 25 that's not encouraging. I'd rather have Ayling as a started than McNamara. But as you say, SR, Norton Cuffy would be a good target, and on

  35. Yes , all day long BNC is quality , but comes at a price , or loan , where as McNamara is a free agent , and I do rate him highly , spotted him before his Millwall move , and reccomended him , he is decent and ideal for 3/5/2 as a wing back. BNC also reccomended a long time ago when staring for COV . Yes he would be 1st choice, age 20 , he will only go up in value ,can't see us spending £4m + on a RB , so on a free and lower salary ,Danny Mac is more realistic. BNC on loan , yes please. Either would start every game in front of Dijksteel and Smith and Ayling.

  37. I think Forss and Jones on right are two excellent options. McGree is fine and I fully expect Azaz to come on again next season and hit 7-10 goals. We need a forward alongside LL as that will help massively. Also our defensive record needs to improve massively as I looked at goals against and only 7 teams have conceded more goals than we have this season. That is pretty pathetic considering likes of QPR and Millwall have better defensive record than us despite languishing towards bottom of table. The return of Lenihan and Smith in terms of experience and leadership will remove s

  39. They also get mad when a flag gets burned or rubbished in some other way. It’s not just about being wokified, if there is such a thing. A flag is a national symbol, and it matters to lots of people in that context. The thing on the back of the England shirt just looks like a naff design to me rather than disrespectful in any way but obviously some people would prefer the flag to be untouched and that’s fair enough I suppose. But I would hope that the people who feel so strongly about our flag are as respectful toward other nation’s flags as well, and you know, things like their national a

  40. Not being a spoilsport or anything like that but considering the injuries we have sustained and faced this season you would have thought Greenwood would have made a success of his time on the pitch and really pushed on to be a vital cog within the team, sadly he has not especially when every opportunity has allowed it. Apart from the odd goals to his credit and his ability with free kicks when they come off. He is an enigma and akin to Marmite! I like Marmite btw!
    2 points
  41. I dont get this whole apart from his freekick narrative. Greenwood has 5 goals and 3 assists to his name - a goal contribution every 230 mins and 8 times as many contributions as anyone seems to want to give him credit for. Jones is on 5 goals and 2 assists, a goal contribution every 276 mins. Obviously anyone with eyes can see greenwood's all round play doesn't approach Jones, but he's also 2 and a half years younger and no one is criticising Jones's output yet people are beating Greenwood with a stick for his - it doesn't make sense. I think he's had an inconsistent season, but I rate h

  42. Putting a gun to my head and having to make a choice between Greenwood or Silvera, I'd go for Silvera. The Aussie seems to be improving and has calmed his shooting down a bit and has potential to improve even more. Greenwood has potential undoubtedly but apart from that Free Kick and a couple of games against Sunderland he hasn't made progress or shown that he is improving, he isn't fast, can't dribble and gives away stupid free kicks. He gets dispossessed very easily and is in the bottom 10% of Championship stats, Jones by comparison has been dispossessed 15 times with three times the amount

  44. 1.5 million fee is probably decent for Greenwood. The upside is fairly big with a young, english forward. Just have a look at Rogers. With a player like that you "just" need him to click for half a season and you'll have the Prem clubs circling. We saw indications of that during our purple spell in the autumn. It'll be his wages thats going to be the big issue and I agree that he shouldn't be a top earner. I have no idea about the pay structure at the club but he should be in the Engel, Barlaser, Forss group where you can also justify having him on the bench. I'm by no means a big fan of
