  1. We’ve had some shocking strikers over the years but I’m so excited by Latte Lath. Imagine how good he could be next year? We are seeing the foundations of a very good team imo. I’m quietly confident about next season if we use the Rogers/Crooks money wisely and keep a hold of our best players. I really can’t see us selling a load and starting from scratch again.

And I’m even a fan of keeping Luke Ayling despite wanting to never see him in a boro shirt again after Stoke.

I mean its great that he likes to play attacking football….

I keep reading this but honestly, it’s not by any stretch of the imagination attacking football and I can’t imagine Carrick is watching our walking pace build up play, side to side passing, no shots and thinking “yep, bad spell but this is my philosophy”. It’s genuinely boring to watch.

The coming midweek game against Norwich has a similar feel to the Southampton game earlier in the season when Carrick was under pressure for the first time and desperately needed a result. I suspect he will go with a back five again and look for breaks and set plays. It has worked in other games for him so I wouldn't be surprised if he gets something out of this game but and it's a huge BUT, I'm not sure the Players are buying into what it is he is trying to do anymore, the body language of many of them yesterday was appalling. This is a far bigger ask than that Southampton game when the majority of fans hearts were still with him.

I’ve been saying the same. The Southampton game was one of our best atmospheres actually, you just felt that everyone was still behind Carrick and desperately wanted him to succeed. I’m not sure we’re as united as a fan base now. Start slowly and it could turn very sour.

  4. I think we need to stick with him but he has some serious questions to answer and patience is running out a bit now. He’s said before how well Danks and Woodgate work with him because they all have different ideas - well we’re not seeing any of that! It’s the same formation, the same style, occasionally a few different players but the same results every week. He needs to try something different and show he can adapt.

Last season when we were flying I remember him saying that it was the players who used to say “we know what we need to do” if we were down at the break and didn’t he one time say he just laughed at our poor play at half time? My feeling is he doesn’t know how to change or motivate the players. I can’t imagine him ever bollocking anyone or even dropping someone to make a point.  It’s just nicey nicey all the time. If he can’t do that can any of the other coaches? Is there a player in the dressing room giving his team mates a dressing down/motivational speech? I just can’t see it.

The Southampton match felt like the full stadium got behind Carrick and the team because they didn’t want him to go. Norwich on Wednesday feels like a similar situation but I think the place could well turn if we don’t turn up and show some fight and passion from the first minute.

  5. Just back from the match. Really awful once again - no energy, fight or creativity. Honestly the players look like they don’t care half of the time, Carrick stood on the sidelines similarly showing no energy or passion. It’s just rubbish. I don’t want to see Thomas or Ayling again. I usually stick up for Barlaser but he needs dropping for his own good now. He has no confidence at all, try one of the kids in there or play McGree in the middle.

Carrick needs to play ugly now.  Go 5 at the back, keep it tight. A clean sheet (don’t laugh) would maybe give a little bit of confidence. Got to start somewhere to stop the rot.

  6. A couple of thoughts from me. Whatever happens in the transfer market we absolutely have to hit the ground running at the start of next season. From Warnock, to Wilder and then Carrick this season, every season has started with a whimper and a lack of belief around the whole club. Managers complaining about the recruitment and underwhelming signings. The last 3 seasons have felt so flat at the start because of what transpired over summer. We need players in quickly, maybe a couple of exciting players. Get the Riverside believing from match one.

To do that we don’t just need players in early, but also no prospective big sales hanging over us. How long did the Spence and Akpom sales drag on for? Or a late Tav sale that overshadowed the earlier good business? This is why I’m hoping the decisions to sell Rogers and Crooks mean that we don’t need to wait around while we generate funds. Maybe selling them means we can keep Hackney and RVB and any other important players? Maybe those two sales have put us in the driving seat and we don’t need to sell anyone else if we are going for a genuine promotion push.

Finally we do have some players coming to the end of their contracts who have been important for us but haven’t really managed to push us forward to success. So I think it might be time to let Howson and Paddy go.

  7. The Chelsea match was certainly interesting in what Neville in particular was saying. He could see straight away that asking Howson to drop into defence isolated Rav on the right and was creating gaping holes in our defence. He picked it out straight away - we got away with it a couple of times and still Carrick didn’t change it. Then the inevitable goals came and game over.

The worrying thing for me was Carricks comments. We’re not playing this system or that, we’re being fluid with our formation. And he’s saying the same again now with the lack of playing a striker - oh it’s fluid, false 9, we’ve done it before etc etc. this is what he needs to learn and put right. This group of players (all players?) need a system and to be very clear on their roles. They look utterly lost.

  8. I’m not surprised the crowd turned as quickly as they did. The ST fiasco, the home form and the inevitable playing around at the back and making mistakes meant things were tense pretty much straight away. The fact we have no urgency and don’t play exciting football at the moment contributes to it always feeling really flat at the start.

  9. First time I’ve really heard people question Carrick today (those sat near me). Getting irritated with him just stood on the sidelines, no emotion, not changing things. Questioning whether he’ll be here next season. Whether they want him. Even after the poor start people were behind him. He needs a statement next week. A team showing some passion and commitment if nothing else!

You know what I fear will happen? McGree will be the one dropped!

We haven't won since December, so I kind of get the impatience in playing out from the back especially as our passing is terrible

That’s kind of what I was saying. I get it now although I don’t think it’s helpful for the players - so carrick needs to change it. He’s putting so much pressure on his own players.

  11. Was trying to work out if that was worse than the home matches against Hull, Rotherham, Bristol City etc and have decided it was. Absolutely abject. So many issues I don’t know where to start.

The impatience from the  crowd when we try to play out from the back winds me up and has all season, but we’re getting much much worse at it and the crowd more and more frustrated. Carrick is putting too much pressure on the keeper and defense by asking them to do it. It’s getting toxic. He needs to be able to adapt.

Similarly with the slow passing and moving forward. Teams win when they play with pace. We are soooo slow and it’s just dull to watch. We’ve not won at home in the league since Dec. Again. Carrick needs to adapt.

Managers are famously stubborn but this ridiculous situation where we have Forss on the right and Mcgree up front (I think!) today is just insane. Silvera on the left as well. It’s just stupid.

Too many players today looked lost and simply gave up at times. At one point Ayljng was beaten by his man and literally gave up and put his hands in the air moaning. Rav did the same a a couple of times then looked  upset as he trudged off at half time. Nobody put an arm round him. He’s still a young kid.

Finally Barlaser.  He wasn’t the worst player today. He hasn’t been our worst midfielder this season (I’m not saying he’s been outstanding mind you) but the hate he gets is ridiculous. He was being openly mocked as well as booed by our own fans today. I’m not sure what that’s supposed to do for his confidence.

Honestly I just don’t know. I’d like to think Carrick will come good but all around me were angry with him today. He shows no emotion or passion, sometimes the players need a kick up their backsides, a bollocking. You just get the feeling he smiles and tells them it will be better next week. The lack of intensity from the players reflects the manager  at the moment.

  12. Gutted for Forss if he’s injured again. Not been right since the end of last season. We really need to get on top of these injuries.
I’m not a Barlaser hater like many - think he’s generally played well this season. Has a stupid error in him but literally our entire defence  and midfield have made big mistakes this season. Interested to see how he gets on with O’Brien. Think his best run of form was in the middle with Hackney.

  13. We do need patience with this model. Despite Warnock and Wilder throwing their toys out of the pram, we started it when Scott came in, so this summer will be into the 3rd season of this approach. We have money in the bank from some good sales, now to hold onto our prize assets and buy some quality alongside.

Jury is still out on a couple of the summer signings - I’ve got a soft spot for Engel but he needs to improve, Silvera is still very raw, ELL needs to stay fit - but overall we are in a better position this summer than last. Get a couple of quality signings in early, show ambition, get the crowd on side from day one and let’s make a push. Stumble into the new season like we did this year and it’s hard to get any momentum.

carrick has to take some of the blame for the situation we are in,good example forss is a striker  but wont play him as one, probs the best finnisher we have, yet keeps him out wide,he could have put greenwood wide today, whether it would have made a difference ,who knows, fcuk me,he even played crooks as a striker before forss!!!!!

Start of the season he played Rogers as a striker ahead of Forss and even said it’s not his correct position when he was defending him. It’s really baffling.
