  1. I've read that Steve Gibson should be advised not to attend the game, and some Boro fans supporting that, I think we as Boro fans should protect Mr Gibson and make him feel most welcome in his own home

  2. Humpty, spot on imo regarding Gibsons contract situation, he signed a 5yr last summer, which will have taken into account his status at the time, he'd played 100 times for us, was one of our biggest assets, young player with most potential, was on the fringes of the national team. Although he proved he's premiership quality, personally I don't think he's done much in the last year other than raise his profile to outsiders, everybody associated with the club knew then how good he was/is and that he would make the step up to premier league level, so it came as no surprise, a 5 year deal when signed takes him into his "prime" as a footballer, this also would have been taken into account, so the deal he signed will have reflected all these things and won't have been that of a graduate from the u23s.

Nothing to do with "expecting favour" as his uncle is owner, as Humpty said, about being a professional and honouring your contract. If it was any other player it wouldn't be an issue.

Securing the clubs future takes priority to further securing players where it's unnecessary, promotion first. UTB

  3. Interesting bit in Tallentire's article about our attacking midfield options. When talking about Stuani, he says:

Boro already have Patrick Bamford and Rudy Gestede pushing for a place in attack and if the club are successful in signing Britt Assombalonga, competition for places will be even more cut throat.

It's noticeable that he doesn't say 'if the club sign a striker', but names Assombalonga specifically. I get the feeling it might be quite close.

If we sign him it will be a record transfer fee... was chatting with some boro fans at York yesterday and we will be paying 16mil to get him... apparently

His injury record is a big concern for me, no doubting his ability but 69 games (league and cup) in 3 full championship seasons isn't good, it makes him a big risk imo, and a risk that intensifies as his banded figure/fee increases.

  4. A season in the Championship could do Espinosa a world of good. Obviously it all depends on what Monk thinks of him in training but I think he could be an asset

Not even sure he has returned to pre season... don't know anything regarding it but he is usually very active on social Media and is quiet and never spotted him or CDP who I know has been told to actively find a new club

The club were raving about him around the time of his signing, building the anticipation by making it known that he'd turned down an huge pay rise that would have made him the highest earner in Sporting Gijon's history, while acknowledging he was still recovering from his ACL.

Bit of a strange one, must have been highly regarded at his previous club so has to be too soon to write him off yet, but wouldn't be surprised if he was to move on though as he must be in the higher earners bracket.

  5. On another note, would anyone take Jonny Howson from Norwich, he is available with them rebuilding their squad. Scores and makes goals from Midfield, reasonable age having just turned 29, Premier league experience - 21/5/17

Called it haha. Howson would be a good signing, he performed well in the Prem also.

Look like your having a good ole chinwag to yourself there pal, you alright? :)

  6. We haven't signed anyone from Leeds, have we?

Except their manager & their entire backroom staff of course.

Coaches and assistants often follow a manager to a new club, I don't get how that's translating to having tunnel vision because someone on twitter has linked us with green.

These links are going to happen naturally, it's called *** poor or lazy journalism, like us needing a cb results is us linked with Bartley and Jansson etc. No need to have a meltdown!

holy *** it was just a joke jesus christ.

Fair enough, saying u don't want us becoming middleeds Utd and calling him pedantic don't come across as a joke though.

  8. Daily Star quoting an italian paper saying Man Utd are interested in De Roon http://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/625435/Manchester-United-Middlesbrough-Marten-De-Roon-Transfer-Gossip-Rumours-Latest-MUFC-News

    Really can't see that happening.

TuttoMercatoWeb are usually good with transfers, and Jose did single out De Roon for a lot of praise when we played them.

Well they also say he is earning 40k and is available at 8.8 million which I find very hard to believe. Even the Gazette are saying today Boro will be looking at 12 million and doesn't even mention the release clause which TeamTalk somehow know exists.

£40k is pretty much what I'd expect him to be on. £8.8m is €10m so that could be true and it wouldn't surprise me at all if he does have a relegation release clause, he was a big money signing, he will have wanted assurances of what would happen in this situation.

But that release clause isn't going to be lower than what we paid for him. If it is then I think the 12 million we reportedly paid was including various bonusses that we are not due to pay now. And he has a wage reduction clause like everyone else. And didn't he say in an interview he was on a modest pay for Prem standards, but maybe 40k is modest nowadays. Anyways I doubt he is in more than 30k now, maybe even less depending on the wage reduction clause.

Could be to do with the sharp fall in the value of the pound against the euro, due to brexit and the recent GE. Would sound about right as the Euro tended to be at 1.2 to the £ where as it's now 0.88, so a €10m release fee would have been £12m but now only £8.8m.

Sure we had a similar issue when we bought Alvez with installments agreed to be paid in € and the price of them went up, costing us more than originally agreed?

  9. Alan Nixon

Celtic want to sign Charlie Taylor from Leeds. Would get for a small fee because contract up. West Brom and Burnley scared of tribunal.

Why would they pay a fee? It's only domestic transfers that require compensation for under 24 players.

They require a small fee, Dembele was £500k I think when they got him from Fulham

I'm certain dembele was on a free which is also what transfermarkt says. I haven't seen anywhere that a young player out of contract requires a fee when it's an international transfer. And who sets the fee? Is 1 pound enough? Leeds can't do a thing.

Compensation for development, agreed by clubs, I'm sure Fulham agreed it through gritted teeth.

Found this while browsing if it's any help:

    Solidarity Mechanism:

The rule entitles the training clubs to 5% (distributed on a pro rata basis) of any transfer fee, paid by a new club to his former club, in case such player is transferred internationally (from one national Association to another) during the course of his contract before his 23rd birthday.

This is another area where Rangers could benefit. If Charlie Telfer is subject to a big money transfer before he is 23, Rangers would get 5% of the fee. Hamilton have benefitted from this mechanism when James McCarthy was transferred to Everton and James McCarthur transferred to Crystal Palace. It is worth noting that getting a percentage of future transfer fees and training compensation are two very different things.

  10. If I was Steve Gibson I'd market him around, garner as much as we can in terms a fee, get Bens agent in the office, sit him down, help him understand he's here to be extorted by placing a shotgun on the table then proceed to explain that Ben under no circumstances signs a contract for longer than 3yrs.

Sell him to the highest bidder, add the takings to the current kitty to strengthen the team so we can smash the league, establish ourselves as a premier league team for 2 seasons and sign Ben (now in his prime) back on a free.

Somewhere a***st all that would be the handing over of a brown bag filled with bank notes to the agent for his kind cooperation!

  11. 8m is silly money for Friend which would be hard to refuse but there comes a point where you think hang on how many changes are we making here?

I said yesterday; the only players who I can say with any confidence will be in the team next season are Clayton and Bamford.

This isn't a football manager game and there's no guarantee that the incomings will be better than the players we sell.

    You're a closet Gestede fan really aren't you :D

  12. Oliver Burke would be a great signing.

We have been tracking him for 2 years haven't we...? Is he getting game time at Leipzig?

He appeared in 25 games last year but only had 617 minutes total.

He had half that in only 5 games in the Champo before being sold.

Sure I read somewhere that only 5 of those 25 were as starter.

  13. When will people get realistic about potential targets, Burke has been liked with both Huddersfield and Brighton and I'm sure there'll be interest from more established premier league teams, he'd get plenty of game time at either of those clubs.

    Heard Ronaldos available too

I reckon we should just play Gestede out wide with his blistering pace.

At the risk of being called a bully, well played :)

Being called a bully?? Why cos I contested someone getting personal?? There's always the FMTTM site if that's your thing.
