Exactly..show me a buyer for the club who will take the club on and subsidise the debt the club accumulates every year...there isn't anyone out there who would do this....the billionaires want a Newcastle United or a Southern based club, why would anyone want to buy Middlesbrough FC? You have to have an infinity with the area and be prepared to lose 10s of millions every year...

I've always disagreed with this argument.

We live in a world where most Yorkshire clubs are owned by individuals or groups far richer than Gibson. These clubs had debts and inferior facilities to us, why do fans think we couldn't get a sale if we wanted one?

The big complicating factor for me is Rockcliffe and that could complicate a deal because that site is worth millions of pounds to Gibson and realistically anyone coming in would need to take all of it on otherwise we could be in the daft scenario of leasing our training ground.

The Premier Leagues commercial value is only going to increase and we sit a step away from those riches for any owner with facilities already in place, the only barrier to sale is Gibson, Rockcliffe and what his asking price would be.

Commercially I've always thought we could quite easily find a new owner willing to take us on as a commercial entity it's the other issues and if Gibson will ever get to the point of letting his little kingdom go.

Gibson clearly stopped trusting Wilder over the summer and didn’t properly back him, leaving this God awful midfield. When you have numbers 4,5,7,9,10 and 11 free with a week or so of the transfer window closing you know it’s a huge problem. Mowett, Clarke and Muniz (2 loans) don’t change that.

Gibson trusted Wilder enough to give a 34 year old Jonny Howson a new contract on what I imagine is a salary worthy of a starter and club captain.

Not all of the issues in the summer were Gibson's alone or Wilder's, it was a cluster**** with enough blame to go around.

Sadly I would sack Leo as well. Clearly he can't coach he is just a glorified cheerleader

Offer him a role as club ambassador if we want to keep him around, have him do coaching for MFC Foundation and have him do public appearances I don't get this notion that we MUST have him as a coach forever no matter who the manager is he can't be on that much £££ that we couldn't shift him around into another role.

As for Cattermole he's been coaching youth teams for what, 8 months?

If Liddle thinks he's doing a good job brilliant let him stick to it and in a years time if he's such a prodigy at coaching he'll have Liddle job or the U23s or he might even get an interview for a Hartlepool or Darlington type of club.

We were better under Strachan... I don't remember us consistently going 2 or 3 goals behind in the first half under him

The issue under Strachan is there was no connection between the fans and the club or players so when it turned it was an inevitable cycle.

The issue here is the fans do have a connection with certain players, many fans feel disillusioned with the club and in my experience they want Kieran Scott to almost take things away from Gibson which I'm not sure is realistic.

I think this next appointment is a moment where we need Gibson to be at the press conference and explain where we are going, I do feel sorry for those people who bought season tickets to watch this ***.

If crowd reaction shows SG dare not appoint Cattermole

His stature is probably at the most precarious and vulnerable point I've seen it in my lifetime, he needs to be really careful how he navigates this.

The club have our eyes out for everything from merchandise to tickets where we sit at the top as one of or THE most expensive club to support in the division and we get fed this ***, he was right to sack Wilder but this whole **** the season away while we interview people's junior staff members, school teachers and corner shop owners for additional background  is a load of bullocks.

  6. That team selection is baffling.

Hackney should be in for Crooks or Howson, McGree is the most technically gifted midfielder we have and he's dropped in a home game. Jones has lost his place in the team to... McNair?!?

Sure we all love Leo but we need a proper manager in ASAP we're drifting along here, I've sat back and laughed all week at Boro twitter that people think there's a chance Cattermole gets the job or Leo.

Club need to get a manager in by midweek, we're rudderless atm and we are playing awful football - can't see us getting anything today with that team.

  7. I eagerly await the job that Carrick ends up taking in the future, it could be spin that he's stepped out of the process but for me his CV does not warrant him automatically walking into a Championship job yet alone a top end Championship job.

Good to read in the Sky report today that Edwards impressed in his interview, at this point I want him or the German coach.

"Whilst Boro are using their time constructively, the hierarcy are understood to be keen to push through an appointment early next week with a meeting scheduled on Monday with the coaching staff to discuss the current state of play."

That's the time line reported by the Echo per their 'understanding', the meeting on Monday has not been reported by the Gazette.

  9. Is this the first confirmation that Carrick has been at Rockcliffe and had his interview?

"Michael Carrick is the current favourite and is understood to have been at Rockliffe in the week interviewing for the role. He is one of three or four serious contenders currently under consideration. "

That's reporting from Craig Johns in today's Gazette which goes a step beyond Boro being 'keen to talk' to Carrick, I know the Echo have reported that an all staff meeting is scheduled on Monday at Rockcliffe with the expectation that a new manager will be announced then.

If Carrick coming in means we get Rene Mulensteen and Phelan in the backroom then that certainly mitigates some of the risks involved with appointing him.

Mulensteen at one point in time was one of the highest rated coaches in European football.

Interesting that Nixon places Corberan ahead of Edwards in terms of contendership, interesting wording also that Edwards 'has support' presumably from Scott with the Wolves link.

What is worse than ever now, we are seeing players not playing for the badge, going through the motions, in the summer we were all thinking we need 3-4 good signings that never arrives (worst recruitment ever in my opinion) we are now looking at having to off load a lot of players who are are now past their sell by date at the club...troubling times ahead.

When Wilder said he sees too many comfy Championship players in the squad I think he had a point, the issue for Wilder is he said that in August and didn't take steps to move said players out of the squad throughout the summer.

The mentality is summed up by Howson's smirks in his Rotherham post match talking about positives like we just drew 0-0 with Man City not Rotherham at home, and that came from the club captain FFS.

I may disagree with hiring a rookie manager but whoever comes in needs to be given license to move players out the door as much as bringing players in, keeping Jonny Howson this summer was one of Wilder's biggest errors for me we need to move on from him he symbolises the failure of the past 5 years.

Actually Neil Madison said it as it is .. We are the most mentally weak Boro side I can remember ...

I think Woodgate's Boro would disagree, looking back the way Warnock dragged them up off the deck to get them over the line was incredible they were all mentally shot to pieces.

    1) Because the selection process might identify him as the best candidate for a number of reasons. Some of which might not be apparent to us all at this time.

    2) So you expect the club to announce his appointment and then list all the risks associated with the appointment? What good will that do anyone?

    3) I can't remember that at all. I remember spending most of the time he was manager sh1tting myself in case we got relegated. Apart from his golden patch in December when I was sure we would make the play offs. But either way, the results always mattered.

    1) The issue is a selection process will not be selecting Carrick as the best candidate by any measurable metric because he does not have a CV to speak of, this is the issue with appointing rookies is you get this rush to justify the appointment and you get pushed narratives based on vibes and feelings, for example Jonny Woodgate's incredible PowerPoint presentation which blew Gibson and Bevington away.

    2) I think we should be clear eyed about the risks present, we aren't hiring Karanka or McLaren who brought with them solid coaching pedigree we're bringing in Michael Carrick because his name is Michael Carrick which has clearly excited a section of our fans but we shouldn't pretend like there is not a lot of risks involved which other candidates do not bring and past Boro appointments have not brought.

    3) I was Woodgate out fairly early on but a large section of fans in that Autumn were openly saying it doesn't matter if we go down to League 1 it will give him a chance to come back up, I don't think it was delusion on their part I think there was a lot of post-Pulis apathy but the results most definitely did not matter to the fanbase that season, you can go back through the forum at that time and you'll see it throughout that season.

We should have a level of expectation when we're paying £540 for a season ticket, as a fanbase we shouldn't let the club turn into what it was under Woodgate is all I'm saying IF we appoint a rookie manager like Carrick.

He's managed 3 games as an interim boss at a club that's been a shambles ever since Fergie left, I've no idea why he's being judged as if he's got years of personal baggage to explain away.

I'm judging him as a rookie manager who has spent the majority of his coaching career under studying Ole Gunner Solksjaer's rather than an elite manager not necessarily his personal baggage I'm just putting out what he's done in his career and what the risks are.

I made the point about Mckenna earlier not because I want Mckenna as our manager, or ever have, it's more the fact that Mckenna came out of United with a high reputation for his coaching ability and was hired by a mid table league 1 team - why should we as a Championship team hire Michael Carrick?

Like I'm sure a lot of people I rated Carrick as a player but I'm not sure he's worthy of walking into a Championship job as his first job in management, Gibson looks like he thinks otherwise which is his perogative obviously - we should just be clear about the risks with Carrick if he is coming in and that they are out in the open beforehand.

When we hired Woodgate a lot of the risks got put to the side by the fanbase/club and it turned the club into Jonny Woodgate make-a-wish at times that season, we are a decent sized football club in the 2nd tier of English football we shouldn't forget that because I think when we hired Woodgate people spent 6 months claiming nothing mattered and results meant nothing, I'm sure the Woodgate experience has scarred me but there are real risks with rookie managers and assessing what Carrick has done as a coach currently is all we can do because we can't judge rookies on any other basis, by definition they have no CV to judge!

    Why would he have?

He was at the biggest club in England for 12 years as a player.

He then went straight from playing for Man United to joining the coaching staff of Man United under one of the most decorated managers in history.

It's been less than a year since he left the club, ours might be the first job offer that has tempted him.

It just adds to the risks his appointment would bring.

All of the comments made about Carrick re:playing career/Ferguson/Manchester United culture could be made about Scholes, Giggs and Butt - it's the presumption that ex United players from the Fergie era automatically would be good managers when the reality is Scholes failed, Giggs at Wales did OK but did nothing Chris Coleman didn't do and Rooney did amazing at Derby but its too early too tell on him.

Solksjaer was consistently criticised for dull, dreary, safety first football which lacked excitement and fluidity - I'm not saying we hold Carrick responsible for Solksjaer but are we hoping he was keeping all of his good ideas to himself?
