The season should be abandoned. Too many lower league clubs would go bust if forced to play behind closed doors.
-
Why so desperate to play this down? Genuine question.

Italy had roughly 300 confirmed CASES of COVID19 on the 25th February. Fast forward LESS than 2 weeks later and they have around 450 DEATHS! They also have roughly 9000 confirmed cases. So you are wrong when you say that we couldn't reach their levels aren't you. Let's hope this doesn't go the same way in this country but to say there isn't a chance is silly. People need to remain cautious and vigilant.

This is how viruses tend to work. You do know that? Once it gets into communities then it spreads rapidly like it has Italy. Let's hope we miraculously avoid that in this country but history suggests not. No point burying your head in the sand and hoping it goes away.
-
Do you seriously expect the situation in Italy not to mirror itself in this country? We may not see the effects as bad as there but it won't be far off. 2 weeks or so and we will be in the same situation.

Haha I'm not that lucky!! Are you a plastic scouser per chance? 😂 Seriously though. Leagues need to be abandoned unless there is something written in the rules to cover this current situation. It was abandoned in 1939 and public safety is more important than games of football. No way will teams accept relegation or non promotion if the season is finished early with current league placings standing. It's a ludicrous suggestion. Some teams may have played much harder fixtures than other teams. The only viable solution seems to be finish the season with no supporters at gamea but e

Boro v Charlton (A) 1-0 (McNair)

Woodgate continued with the 4-2-3-1 formation that had brought about improved performances in the previous two games. It was undoubtedly the right choice as we produced our best away performance since Preston on New Years Day. What was more pleasing was the fact that he stuck with the same trio of players that had improved the attacking play of the team in recent weeks. One surprise however was that Rudy Gestede kept his place in the team despite Fletcher and Assombolonga returning to fitness. We should have been out of sight by half time. A well worked goal from McNair following one of the -
I don't think it would be fair to award anything in any of the leagues and equally all relegations would have to be null and void. The whole season would be abandoned. There is a precedent in England when the league was abandoned in 1939 when war broke out. At the end of the day peoples health and safety comes a long way before a game of football.
-
They'll have to just cancel the season in my opinion and start afresh in August/September time. Its the only fair way isn't it?

More games being called off and played behind closed doors across Europe. Big decisions to be made by the PL and EFL very soon.

Lighten up. Talk about an overreaction!

A couple of months? This virus will be ongoing until the end of summer by all accounts. Certainly it is not expected to peak for another 6-8 weeks. That doesn't leave any time to fit in the rest of the games before the beginning of next season. With regards to ending the season now as it stands, there is no way this will happen as the clubs that it will negatively impact would have grounds for legal action.

Morning all, an interesting article I read online about the danger that COVID-19 could pose to smaller clubs. It is looking very very likely that this virus is going to spread rapidly and with that danger comes the very real possibility of the government announcing plans to limit social interaction. As seen in other countries, one of the ways to do that would be to play all sports events behind closed doors. The problem for smaller clubs is that they will still be responsible for the majority of match day costs but will not receive any gate receipts. For many clubs this would be a financial di

I think the most important part of my comment that you failed to address was regarding having the players to play the style of football he wants from the team. He will get those players this summer so there will be no excuses then.
-
I'm not really confident in his ability but I think he deserves a chance to at least have a full season using players that fit the way he wants the team to play.

😅😅😅 Always look on the bright side of life! Cant agree with much of that to be honest if any and such is your pessimism I doubt that I would be able to talk you round to my way of thinking!

1. Yes I agree that spending will be minimal but I don't think we will be plying our trade in League 1. It wont even go down to the last game in my opinion, we will be clear by then. 2. Really? Ayala and Howson have already said they want to stay and both Friend and Johnson have recently spoken of their happiness at the club and how settled they are. 3. What makes you think they will want to go? is that based on your assumption that we will be playing in League 1? If so then yes I would agree with Britt and I would also add McNair to that list. However, I don't think Fry would jump s

Absolutely fantastic post this. Thanks for taking the time to put it together. Some great names in there that I'd forgotton all about such as Ooh Eek Andy Peake and we could certainly do with a Robbie Mustoe in our midfield at the moment! Looking ahead to the weekends game I think its got a score draw written all over it. -
There will be a few changes with so many players out of contract and loan signings returning to their parent clubs and many fans are worried about the size of the rebuild that is required. To clarify, we will be left with a first team squad consisting of: Goalkeepers Aynsley Pears - Thomas Mejias - Dejan Stojanovic Right backs/wing backs Djed Spence - Anfrenee Djiksteel Left backs/wing backs Hayden Coulson - Marc Bola Centre backs Dael Fry - Nathan Wood - Sam Stubbs Central midfielders Paddy McNair - George Saville - Lewis Wing - Ben Liddle

Who was the last manager we had that improved our players?
OzzyPorter replied to OzzyPorter's topic in Boro Forum
I'm still waiting for you to let me know if you were serious when you used the relative successes of Huddersfield and Middlesbrough to gauge the overall ability of a player who played for each of those teams at different stages of his career and surrounded by players of differing ability ! 😁 -

I'm not rephrasing my question at all. the question that I asked was a really simple one. "Who was the last manager we had that improved our players?" and i clarified that by saying not just one or two players but 5,6,7 and more. I dont agree that Karanka did. I think he made us a very strong defensive unit and the defensive players under him thrived in that system but have since been shown to have limitations. That, for me, is not improvement. Who did Rioch improve? Seriously? 😁 -

I'm really not ducking your point, its just there is so much wrong with that comment you made about comparing his time at Hudds and his time with us that I don't know where to start. Firstly, are you being serious? -

He didn't improve him as a player. He improved him at playing a specific role in his tactical blueprint. Have a think about it 😂
