There's a massive difference, again as you well know.  If it was just a cross, and our flag was something completely different, then no bugger would care about it.  It's our flag, and that's why it makes a difference because it's a different version of our flag.

    Is there a heterosexual flag?

Edit - I just checked and there is.  Jesus Christ.  What a world we live in eh.

If nothing else I'm glad I've opened your eyes to the world of LGBT flags lol.

Seen loads of out rage over the outrage mainly surrounding apparently lgbt colours. Just got me thinking what would that community do if Nike altered their flag colours, would be interesting to see.

We'd probably be more confused than anything.

Like I said, things like this seem more important to a lot of people now than even 10 years ago.  I don't know which kits have a modified cross on it.  This isn't just a modified cross though is it?  It's a modified flag of England, as you well know.

    There's a bisexual flag? 🤣

I thought LGBTQ colours are rainbow colours?

What's the difference? The flag of England is just a bloody cross. And there's outrage over things like that because we live in a state of perpetual culture wars.

And yes - there's an individual flag for nearly every sexuality / gender identity, all of which is under the umbrella of the progressive pride flag.

But they haven't have they?  I mean the colours aren't those colours so I don't think it's specifically that.  The outrage now all of a sudden if you want to call it that is I suspect because in recent times symbols seem to be becoming more and more important across the board, no matter what your beliefs are.  If they weren't important then nobody would bother with rainbow laces or lighting up things in one colour or another to show support for whatever causes.  Somebody mentioned culture wars up above.  It's not something I know much about or spend any time thinking about but I would imagine that has something to do with it as well.  People, well some people, don't like 'their' symbols being appropriated for other things.  I didn't like the idea of the cross of St George being used for far right types, as if it was just their flag, and then that made other people uncomfortable with it - the flag or our nation!

Flags are symbols, and symbols have power, which is why an old and 'nice' symbol like a swastika can be turned into something horrible just by association.  For a lot of people if you see a swastika now it means something bad whereas before the Nazis nicked it this was a symbol of well being I believe.  I think that's at least part of the reason why people get defensive about things like that.  I mean look at what happened when the Boro badge changed or what happens when we get the new kits.  There's all kinds of push back from fans, and that's just a football club badge and kit.  It doesn't have the same reach as a national flag or symbol but it still has a level of importance to us as fans, and we don't like it being messed with.  If Boro's new kit was black and white would you say it didn't matter?  Be honest.

Again, why was there no outrage in 2011 when Umbro messed with the flag?

Plenty of kits have had some sort of modified cross on, why is THIS the one that's causing outrage?

(also btw people ARE complaining because they think it's lgbtq colours, they think it's too close to the bisexual flag to be a coincidence)

They also get mad when a flag gets burned or rubbished in some other way.  It’s not just about being wokified, if there is such a thing.  A flag is a national symbol, and it matters to lots of people in that context.  The thing on the back of the England shirt just looks like a naff design to me rather than disrespectful in any way but obviously some people would prefer the flag to be untouched and that’s fair enough I suppose.   But I would hope that the people who feel so strongly about our flag are as respectful toward other nation’s flags as well, and you know, things like their national anthems.

This isn't the first time this has happened, so why the outrage now all of a sudden?

Because they think the flag has been turned into LGBTQ+ colours.

People die for flags, people kill for flags.  I think it's daft to be upset about it as well like because it's quite clearly just Nike messing around with a design rather than some attempt at a cultural/political statement.  Flags matter though, whether they should or not I don't know, but they do.  And that's why you get people being worked up about it, which is also why it's probably better to respect them generally.

People get mad over flags when they think the flag is being wokified.

They couldn't care less when it's altered in a fashion that suits their world view

Update on the new England kit...besides being plain and boring, Nike decided the cross of St George needed updating ("wokefying" or "wokening").

    Absolutely disgusting IMO.

Nike has no plans to change new St George Cross design

You do not mess with a country's flag. Can you imagine any other country putting up with having their flag redesigned and re-coloured?

    Get a grip.

This isn't even the first time a kit maker has messed with the England flag. Umbro did it in 2011.

Also where was the outrage when we altered the Union flag for the GB 2012 Olympics?

Are right wingers overreacting? Probably. Unfortunately, given the current 'culture wars' climate, changing the flag was always going to come across as deliberately provocative and needlessly divisive. Many on the left are clearly reveling in the fact their political opponents are annoyed... Which suggests to me Nike, a very 'woke' brand, knew what they were doing.

Is changing the flag a political statement to do with LGBT? Nike says no, it's 'playful' and meant to 'unite and inspire'... But everyone is supposed to be united and equal under a country's flag to begin with. If you really have to make some kind of social message with the design, do it elsewhere on the kit. The St George cross isn't Nike's flag to change.

And I also do think it's a fair point that they wouldn't do this with the flags of various other countries.

    Like this, you mean?

Seriously this outrage over a flag is actually *** pathetic and anyone mad at it really needs to take a good hard look at themselves.

I wouldn't have thought that would be possible mate.  From a FFP perspective that would mean they'd supplied incorrect information, assuming that the £18m fee was what they put through their books.  Same goes for Sheff Utd.

That's how it was described by the journalist who looked into it.

So in reality they have paid a £2 million loan fee?

I wouldn’t be surprised if we hadn’t already enquired with Villa about a deal for him be it a straight loan or a loan to buy if promoted etc.

but then there was the article about them not activating the clause to bring him back so would look unlikely to me.

Another local paper has clarified again that it is indeed as I described and that recent report about it being an option is incorrect.

It's only an option if Sheff Utd

So yes, basically it's a £2m loan fee!

  9. 9 hours ago, LinoJo3 said:

If they’ve done a deal where there’s a chance they are obligated to buy him back  they obv will have some contingency for buying him back. For all we know sheff utd only paid £3m up front and villa buy him back for £1m. It was all clearly aimed at fudging ffp so how much actual money changed hands and how much of it was only on paper, we will never know.

Sheff Utd paid 9 for him up front. If they stay up, they pay the other 9.

If they don't, Villa pay 7 to get him back.

If its the incident I'm thinking off, that was forss. Ell was free as a bird on the right hand side and forss took a couple of touches instead of going for the first time pass

It was Forss. He had all the time in the world to find ELL who was in on goal with no Norwich players in sight but for some reason he decided to try and take it inside himself and lost it.

Derby conceded 89 goals that season which is the most conceded in a 38 game season. Our good pal Wilder is up to 71 now with 11.5 games to go 😂

they only need to average 2 goals conceded a game to beat that now then right, if my maths is right?

    Add Greenwood to the list.

    Possibly even O'Brien.

    Shalom.

I thought O'Brien was one of the only ones to come out with any credit today, he tried his absolute best but he can't do much with such *** around him IMO!

Again we make no change until 60+ mins. Can see from 10 minutes Thomas, Ayling, Barlaser aren't up to it so take em off

Tbf though the whole team needs replacing...

They were stripped ready to come on and he realised it would be too early and had them put a bib back on lol.

If he doesn't know, why refuse the safe pass? That's why I would still be blaming him. Chances are, the press is coming. Even when it's clear the man is there, he just tries to beat him.

That's where the communication comes in mate. He shouldn't assume he HAS to make the safe pass unless he's told there's a guy there.

    Anyone defending barlaser again 😂

I will a little bit there actually, you could clearly see him motioning that he needs to be told about the guy coming in behind on his blind side.

Turning like that is a pretty common way out for us.

    Needs communication all around.

who do we bring in? a manager who has actually proven he can manage a team to success in the lower leagues, plays an attacking set up, is a good motivator, has a good defensive coach and likes his players to get stuck in.

Mm I'm sure there's loads of those floating around 🙂
