  1. I know nothing about Stoke- on- Trent but, to its great credit, it's the place where I learnt how to use chopsticks.  The waiters saw me struggling, and were kind enough to wait until I was the only customer in the place before treating me to five minutes' chopsticks basic training.  Eternal gratitude.

Sell Hackney for £25m. Keep the £15m from Rogers and there is £40m:

    1. O'Brien for £4m

    2. Archer £12m rising to £16m if we get promoted.

    3. Scott weaves his magic and signs a lower league gem to replace Hackney for £2m

    4. Sign a good RB for £3m

    5. Keep £4m for Jan 25 window

    6. Use £15m towards running costs

    7. Celebrate promotion in May 25

    Newy is back!!!!

And it's as easy, and as hard, as that.

  3. My elder son is a LUFC supporter.  He told me last Thursday that another Leeds fan he knows, who claims to be ITK, says that Charlie Cresswell is coming to Boro this month.  He claims that it's definite, all details sorted etc.

I don't have a view on the veracity of this one way or the other.  I'm just passing on a bit of hearsay...

I think this is probably Carrick's last season with us

Hmm.  No, I don't see things that way at all.  I don't know the fella, but my impression of him is that what motivates him is... successful projects.  I'm assuming that big money doesn't hold much fascination for him at this point in his career.  I think he wants to prove to himself (and anyone else who takes an interest in such things) that  -  working with a team of like minded professionals  -  he can develop a middle level club (us) to greater things and, having gained promotion with them (us)...  keep them (us) there.  To raise the team (us) to a quality level which is sustainable over the long term.  Okay, I realise that what I'm saying is what I would like to happen, but that doesn't mean I'm wrong.  Where else would he go where so many important factors are in place and favourable to his overall aims??  I don't know much about his personal circumstances, but one possible difficulty might be the time he spends away from home and family.  How old are his kids??  Whereabouts are they in their education and personal development??  I do hope we're managing to keep him happy, fed and watered, and giving him a hug now and then.

  5. I'm looking forward to seeing Oppenheimer.  I've read the screenplay and it's whetted my appetite...

The TV series I absolutely love is "The Bureau", also known as "Le Bureau des Légendes".  French with English subtitles, available on Prime and chargeable.  The easiest way to find it  -  because the word "Bureau" occurs hundreds of times and you probably don't want to watch the French version of "The Office"  -  is to search for "Kassovitz" (he's the leading man).

It's a love story, but when one of the parties is a top level spy, adulterous relationships can prove a bit tricky (we've all been there).  As a spy story, we're reliably informed that it is totally realistic.  Written by spies (or ex spies), and they should know how these things work in real life.  Great writing, super story line, first class acting.

Don't be put off by the subtitling  -  it helps focus your concentration and that tends to enhance your enjoyment, I find.  What I love about French productions is that the writers generally have this knack of getting you to fall in love with the main players.  And the minor players.  Real depth to the characters, completely believable.  Enjoy!!

I find it quite depressing that many of the reporters show a distinct lack of imagination in preparing their questions.  (Do they do any preparation??)   It's the same old predictable stuff every time, and I think the good Mr Carrick does well to maintain his composure in these sessions.  He does well to stay awake.   (Mark Drury, please be aware that I am a fan of yours and am not including your good self in this criticism)

  7. Google was great twenty odd years ago, but it's another of those environmental tools that likes to take over your life.   Nothing wrong with installing "Opera" alongside all your other stuff.   I think you'll like it...

  8. It was a few years ago, but my missus and I had a really great week in Kinsale.  I can wholeheartedly support the positive remarks in BD4's OP  -  wonderful ambience, food, drink, culture, people  -  you come to appreciate the true meaning of the word "civilisation"

    😊😊
