  1. I did read yesterday West Brom could be looking to sell him. We don't need another right winger - this would surprise me We desperately need a winger. We only have Traore and to an extend Downing and Braithwaite. A left sided winger would be great, but I think we are covered on the right with Traore and Downing already

  3. We all agree verbally abusing your own players is counterproductive (and downright moronic), but it happens, so players do have to be strong mentally to succeed. You could argue that these days, mental strength is just as important to a player's make up as physical attributes.
  4. The scouting department can get you another sideways playing centre midfielder and ‘promising’ lad on the left - that ok?
  5. I think that sums things up accurately. How much have we spent on those three - about £15m? Ouch.
  6. Adama was gone and needed to come off - he’d started to leave men spare Johnson looked like it backfired big time. He started so well here but now looks very poor I'm with you that he maybe needed to come off. But taking off our only 2 creative players and bringing on Clayton and *** Johnson was horrendous. I guess TP wanted to see Johnson - I hope he’s seen enough!

  8. I really hope not. Johnson is League 1. Much rather Bamford but I suppose Johnson is the only wide player on the bench. Just a guess... TP might want to give him 30 minutes to have a look
  9. Will certainly be fascinating to see who gets the nod up front - maybe he'll try both? -------------------- Randolph ------------------ -- Shotton --- Ayala -- Gibson --- Friend -- ----------- Clayton ------ Howson ------------ --- Traore ------ Gestede ------ Downing --- ---------------- Assombalonga -----------------
  10. Just guessing Tony's thoughts at the moment based on his previous clubs and selections so far... Just curious, what makes you think Pulis will start Assombalonga? And how would that team look?
  11. Downing?? I don't think Stewie is anywhere near as good on the left though these days... I think Downing will finally get his wish of playing through the middle for the Boro under TP.
  12. I think Tony will be scribbling this on a whiteboard somewhere, at 6:30am after his morning jog: -------------------- Randolph ------------------ -- Shotton --- Ayala -- Gibson --- Friend -- ----------- NEW ----------- Howson ------------ ---- Traore ----- Downing -------- NEW ---- -------------------- Gestede --------------------- It's a shame, but Clayton just might not be 'big' enough for Pulis at 5ft 9. The midfielder we're linked with (Kevin McDonald) is 6ft 1. With Pulis we know it's not just how well Clayton battles/tackles/passes, it's how useful he is at defending/attacking set pieces. I'm happy enough with Friend now, as the system won't be relying on him getting forward and creating chances. I'm most excited by who we might sign on the left hand side of the attack. We've been so unbalanced there for so long, I'm sure Pulis has identified that and must be working on names already. In the absence of rumours, does anyone have any best guesses/wish lists for the left side of the attack?
  13. Is the scouting department under review? It better be. But they are so good at scouting the same type of central midfielders over and over again - such consistency!
  14. Woodgate smacks of a Gibson appointment. Gibson is obsessed with having someone 'local' on the coaching staff. If you've ever seen Woodie out and about, he doesn't strike you as being a coaching aficionado that's for sure... Still, good luck to him and UTB. How does his behaviour outside of work reflect his practice in the work place? I am a teacher. And a bloody good one. But that doesn’t mean I don’t go out and enjoy myself when I am not working. Tyler, you strike me as someone who knows they are talking about - as for Woodie he just strikes me (and others that know him) as a bit daft...! I will be honest - I have know Woody since I was about 7/8. I am not going to deny he was ‘daft’ as a young lad. And he would be the first to admit that. But he has settled down loads. He is now all about his family (his son goes to the same school as my kids) and he was loving his coaching job with the under 18s. I don’t think it is fair to assume he will be a terrible coach because he has/had some idiot mates who get into scrapes. I have heard so many stories about the terrible life he lives outside of football. I have been told by several (totally independent) sources that his drug problem was so bad that the dealers took his house off him. And chased him out of town. This being the house that he still lives in. With his wife and two kids. Also, the fact that he is now in his late 30s and settled down with two kids doesn’t guarantee that he is a good coach! He loves the club and town so I'm sure he'll do his best for us!
  15. agree with this. Pullis knows him and if people think pullis would appoint someone he thinks is a bad influence then your doing down a very experienced manager Woodgate smacks of a Gibson appointment. 17. I think Pulis will want some continuation to keep the momentum from the second half going - maybe only 1 or 2 changes. Would love to See Clayts alongside Howson. Won't do Britt any harm to learn he has to work to be first choice. -------------------- Randolph ------------------ -- Shotton --- Ayala --- Gibson -- Friend -- ----------- Clayton ------ Howson ------------ ---- Traore ----- Bamford ---- Downing ---- -------------------- Gestede -------------------
  18. As you know I'm a Howson fan. Think he's been decent for most of the season to be honest. Hasn't set the work alight but then again no one did under Monk. Think he got made an easy scapegoat earlier in the season, and now getting a bit more appreciation. Would be the first midfielder on the team sheet for me every time. Playing centre midfield is tough - there's so many ways to play it you need clear instruction from the manager and every player singing from the same hymn sheet. In that regard, Pulis and Monk are chalk and cheese and Howson will get the benefit of Tone's clear tactics.
  19. To be fair to Bamford, he's been in and out of the side and playing in different positions, which is not ideal for a confidence player. For me the difference between Bamford and Fletcher is that Bamford has a good touch, good movement and can make a pass. I'm not sure what Fletcher can do. The harsh truth for Steve Gibson is that Assombalonga, Bamford and Fletcher are not Pulis type players. You can also put Christie in that group - he's being asked to play a different role completely overnight. I'm hoping Assombalonga works hard and keeps his place in the team. To call him a flat-track bully is unfair - the whole team have been crap against the top 6 so far this season.
  20. If Adama starts right and Downing left, it 'looks' balanced on paper but our left side will be limp going forward and our right side will be a defensive liability. Those three in midfield will be painful to watch. It will be like our defensive 1-0 defeats in the Premiership. Oh dear Badger - do try and be positive... UTB
  21. Nice one Teacider, good analysis of Pulisball! Pulis may deliberately want to change things, just to stamp his authority. I think he'll try this out during training this week: ----------------------------- Randolph ----------------------- -- Christie --- Shotton -- Ayala -- Gibson -- Friend -- -------- Leadbitter --- Downing --- Howson ----------- ---------------- Gestede --- Assombalonga --------------- It would be hard to score against and we'd still carry a height/power/pace threat upfront. We don't have reliable/effective #10s/wingers so Pulis might just play to our strengths, as uncreative as that might be. If it were me, I'd go with the same winning team/formation, except give Friend a go, and give Bamford a rocket up the ***. -------------------- Randolph ------------------ -- Christie --- Shotton -- Gibson -- Friend -- --------- Leadbitter ------ Howson --------- --- Downing --- Bamford -- Braithwaite --- ---------------- Assombalonga ---------------- Then Bring Clayton on in the second half for Leadbitter, to ease him back into the team
  22. In all seriousness, the club could do with a shot of Pulis for 6-18 months. He'll look to improve every aspect of the club and won't take any **** from the players. In my opinion, he's like a better version of Karanka. He'll get he players going from day one. We can all moan about him when we're established in the Premier League... but until then UTB!
