  1. Sorry Thomas, The big headline news on MFC website is Ripley has gone to Accrington Stanley on loan. What a *** terrible *** transfer *** window. Oww i missed that one but still you get my point the kids deserve to get there chances and this window has probably forced that for at least 2 or 3 of them. Downing will start ahead of Tav, for some reason I’m sure...
  2. So the £80m we’ve made on parachute payments and transfer fees, plus income from gate receipts and merchandise, plus competition winnings, plus tv money, is all going on player wages? Our players are being massively overpaid!!! Our promotion year we made a huge loss. The year before that we made a huge loss. The year before that one we also made a huge loss. The year in the prem we probably made a profit of less than £10 million. Last seasons accounts are not out yet, but I imagine we made a small loss that year too. We can't keep making loss after loss. I'd rather Gibbo reign our spending in and be cautious but still have a club. Rather than the likes of QPR/Pompey. It’s a good point Dan, but why not come out and say that. All these ‘attempts’ to sign players have just been a tease I know what you are getting at. It does feel very cloak and dagger. But Middlesbrough are run as a private business. Off the top of your head how many private businesses do you know of that come out publicly with their business/financial plans? I suppose as a football club it is different and in my opinion we need some sort of transparency. I think there’s a difference between private plans and bull *** smoke screens. We had well considered targets and today our club, for some reason, only pretended to try and sign them.
  3. I’d love to know where all this money that we’ve been getting the last 3 years is going! 4. Kev, always admire your passion but we’ve a worse squad than last season. We’re staring mid table mediocrity down the barrel and we don’t know why. Where’s the transparency the club promised us? It’s all getting a bit weird.

  6. Spurs? I knew someone would say Spurs but in reality they really haven’t. They’ve kept all their biggest stars and already have a fantastic squad with great balance all over the pitch Plus Spurs are building a new stadium so no signings makes sense. Also they haven’t teased their fans with a load of late activity that had no chance of coming in. #faketransfers
  7. Agree with all of this - except I’d add the twist that the strategy was designed to fail. We wanted to give the appearance of trying to sign players. We’ve done it before. No sane person would have done what we did today if they were actually trying to make the deals happen.
  8. Quote of the day! But what does it mean?! Having a superficially positive appearance that is belied by the reality, e.g., superficially elegant and beautiful but actually common. Thanks B Woof - good knowledge
  9. If we’d have moved at the right time, there would have been no surprises at the last minute with agent fees. I don’t stand by that. Move early and the asking prices are too high. McNair? Flint? Those fees were fine and done early. Wallace and Saville were good targets, but our offer was late and derisory. The scouting team and manager picked good targets, but we didn’t give ourselves a chance of signing them. Selling clubs need time to arrange replacements before committing to sell. Was this all a way of saying ‘hey, we tried but oops sorry we couldn’t get the deals done in time’. We clearly didn’t do what was needed to bring players in. I’d rather the club just come out and say that than put on this pantomime show. Even Pulis will be fuming.
  10. Quote of the day! But what does it mean?!
  11. If we’d have moved at the right time, there would have been no surprises at the last minute with agent fees. I’m not convinced we went all out to make the deal happen.
  12. I'm sure we can still work it out with Besic with a loan to buy, but it seems like we just didn't get things done, leaving it all too late.
  13. I think they'll be a surprise... Besic +1
  14. They'll probably announce it around 6:00-7:00pm once it's all be confirmed and they've made a nice 'welcome back Besic' image for social media...
  15. Byram would be awesome - he must have been mentioned in nearly every window for the last 3 years. And imagine Karanka's frustration if we swoop in! Do it Boro - we've got the funds.
  16. I'd rather Kalas, he'd be excellent cover for RB/CB in the style we now play.
  17. Yes - I think we're going to be at the back of the queue for loan deals until the end of August. The market will be focused on permanent deals today for sure. Premier League/Championship Clubs can still sell to foreign leagues as their transfer deadline isn't until end of the month...
  18. Yes both Echo and EG say we have an option to make it permanent, let's hope he does well enough that it's a no brainer in 9 months time. Good news! Think he'll do well for us in a Pulis team.
  19. I hope we've got an option to buy with Hugill - has anyone heard anything on that
  20. Hopefully you're right BD and we're still able to get exciting players in as loans. But I still think the selling club would rather sell to foreign leagues than loan to Championship clubs, so we'll be at the back of the queue right until the end of the month. Then they'll be a bidding war between Championship clubs, and we could end up paying high loan fees and 100% of wages just to loan an unwanted player who is out of form or coming back from injury. I just hope the club are not relying on this strategy; letting transfer targets go and hoping for players to fall in our laps as bargain loans. I'd rather we build a solid team for the future and build assets with permanent transfers for the likes of Bryan and Besic, rather than rely on what could be an expensive loan market.
  21. Well unless they're going to use that cash on new contracts for existing players, that money's not going to make much of a difference to them until January anyway, which is ultimately when they'd probably receive it in a loan-to-buy. If they sold in the transfer window, they could use it in the window. And for a business cash is always more valuable now rather than later. We'll have to wait and see if many loan to buy deals materialise in the coming weeks. I'm sceptical on how many Premier League clubs will go for deals like that, and urge Boro to get moving in the transfer market now!
  22. I'm not as confident in the loan market as some. The parent clubs won't be motivated to loan out any quality players. If they are looking for a loan to permanent deal, why not just sell now? It's more of a straight forward deal and they get the cash sooner. For example, why would Burnley loan us Vokes? He's an asset worth £12-15m and they will need him for their UEFA Cup run. Why would he want to come here? He can fight for his place in a Premier League team in Europe, not scrap in the Championship away from his home and family. We'll also have to beat off competition from every other Championship Club, who will all be chasing any players that are actually available for loan. They'll be the usual younger players available to loan (a la Harrison, Baker) but they are hardly going to change our season. If we don't get any deals done before Tomorrow 5:00pm, I can't see anything particularly exciting/useful coming our way via the loan market.
  23. Is it no longer a theory, is it now true? I don't think it's the recruitment team's fault, or Pulis' fault - we've clearly identified targets. Waghorn, Bryan, Besic, Hugill are all affordable for us and we haven't acted with any intent. It does look like Gibson is stalling on making bids for some reason...
