  1. Just another update.

    419x300https://i.imgur.com/ZSh6StS.png[/img]

11 games in and we're back onto the 2 points per game target, and one point better than we were under Karanka where we were going through our own sticky patch without a win in 3 until game 13. Last year this is where the season started to slip for Garry Monk, we were slap bang in the middle of a 5 game winless slump.

Even though our goal scoring has slowed down after the international break, we're on 1.3 goals per game, which is the same as we managed in the 15/16 season. Although it still feels like we should be scoring more from set pieces and making our chances count from open play. 4 goals against and 8 clean sheets in 11 games speaks for itself.

In terms of fixtures played this season vs last season we've got 18 points in the games this season compared to the 13 we'd achieved from those same fixtures last season. Unbeaten against the top 6, 4 goals for and 0 against in those 4 games. (West Brom, Swansea, Leeds and Sheffield United) although the top 6 landscape could change after tonight's fixtures. I think this shows we've put to bed our inability to pick up results against the divisions other top teams.

    Good stats Foogle!

"Unbeaten against the top 6" without conceding is mightily impressive, a world away from last season.

Hopefully the goals will come. It should be possible if Braithwaite/Howson/Saville/Downing/Besic are given license to get forward.

  2. Think we need to organise a big oneBoro scrap to thrash out all this anger and resentment :)

Prowler, Red Rocket, Trekkers, ETO, Curtis Fleming to name a few are all nice people to get to know face to face, we have had some great meet ups in the past yet sadly they are infrequent posters now.

I obviously wasn't nice to meet up with then  :crying: :crying:

Will I class you now as a regular and fully expect you to get to the Six Medals on Saturday and as I said all I did was to name a few :)

Also I should include Boro Badger, Boksicdink, Boro in Bishop, Misterweed and loads of others, great guys and the most important aspect is that they support MFC

Hope to see you all again soon

  3. Pulis' comments from today's press conference are much more positive .

"There’s good competition now and hopefully we’re in a better place than we were last year when I came in"

"We’ve got a good group of players that if we get injuries, if we get a drop in form or suspensions, we’ve got enough depth now to cover those situations.”

Contrast that to what he was saying previously:

"we know we have to bring players in, that group is not good enough to get us promoted."

“It’s a smashing group, but it’s not good enough to get us promoted. We need to add to the group.”

Since he said that, we added Hugill, Besic, McQueen, Saville and Batth.

All good additions to the squad, but maybe only Besic and Saville will expect to be regular starters.

I wonder if these incoming players really have made that much difference in Pulis' mind, or whether he's just putting a positive spin on transfer dealings. It's hard to tell with Pulis.

  4. With the constant derailment and now possible kitchen related deaths I feel it’s only right to close this thread at 17:00hrs this evening;)

Did you leave this thread open because my incredible joke satisfied you so much?

This thread can't be closed until the mystery of the pressure cooker is solved!

As a keen cook, I can't fathom its use... My question must be answered before this thread can close!

Otherwise it's time for the 'Pressure Cooker Mentioned Before The Transfer Thread Is Closed Thread Was Closed Thread' to see the light of day.

I'm sure I have seen that picture elsewhere before. Without sounding harsh (as that oven is buggered) I hope that is a picture of SmogDane's kitchen, but I don't think it is unfortunately!

    BD you have been rumbled!

  5. Adomah, meh. He wouldn’t fit the system we’ve been playing and to change systems we’d need 2-3 wingers not just one.

Clearly we didn’t pull out all the stops out for Puncheon, otherwise pretty sure he’d be here.

It’s been a good window for the club in terms of finances and on the pitch results, just a really poor window for the fans to lose our top players without adding anyone exciting.

There’s always January, I guess... hopefully we’ll be top two with the enforced 5-3-2 formation and we can bring players in for that specific system. Who wants wingers anyway...

  6.

Even if we weren’t in for these players. It isn’t the club that’s said we were in for them so who is actually contriving it

Lets just say i dont think the media outlets are making up these "targets".

You think someone at the club is being paid to sit around and think of players that we don't want that we can leak to the media and end up not getting? Really? Not sure how the club gains from this at all

Isn't it more likely the media are making assumptions to fill column inches or printing info given by agents who want to drum up interest in their players.

Occams razor for me every time.

We were making derisory bids on deadline day for deals that had no hope of transpiring, to give the ‘appearance’ of ambition. The media didn’t make that up. Even Occam’s razor would agree with that.

Except for Saville, who looks like signing and Besic who has signed. You argument has so many holes it’s beginning to look like emmental...

    Emmental my dear Watson!

Saville is actually the player we made a derisory bid for... him and Wallace, arguable Millwall’s two best players for a combined fee of £6m on deadline day - it was a joke really. Millwall were never going to accept that, even if they wanted the money they had no chance of finding replacements. Same for our Freeman bid at QPR.

Besic and Saville are both joining on loans - unless I’m mistaken there’s only a transfer ‘option’ - we haven’t signed these players yet and I’m not sure if we are committed to (same for Hugill).

Would be interested in the details of these deals if anyone knows, because I think these are options only, not firm commitments.

Very happy to be proved wrong by the way! Just expressing my opinion on things based on the pattern of the clubs behaviour since January. I think we can expect sales out and loans in only. Pulis will most likely leave after the books are balanced and then we’ll put Woody in charge with a modest budget. We’re just gearing up for life in the Championship. Nothing wrong with that, but the club are trying to paint a different picture and that’s what I find odd.

  7.

Contrived. !, sometimes you just can’t buy the ones you want   All these buys are auctions effectively but with the added bonus of the player still saying no if he doesn’t want to come.   Some seem to think it’s as easy as walking down to Tesco and buying a loaf of bread

Yes rich, contrived. I chose that word very carefully. The whole point of my post was that I don't think we were ever really in for some of theseason "targets", and therefore contrived is the perfect word.

Even if we weren’t in for these players. It isn’t the club that’s said we were in for them so who is actually contriving it

Lets just say i dont think the media outlets are making up these "targets".

Occams razor for me every time.

I’m with Tudders on this one.

We seem to be in the minority in that opinion though.

Still, McQueen is a good loan signing.and we’ll stuff dirty Leeds tomorrow.

  8. I think the club have stitched Braithwaite right up with this one.

He’s always given his best on the pitch and we’ve clearly had an agenda to move him on since January.

Saying ‘he wants to leave’ line was predicted and covers the club after selling our four best players in one summer.

With everything that’s going on, Pulis has got to be on some sort of kind of bonus structure for selling players whilst retaining a decent league position.

It’s Tony Mowbray 2.0, except this time the manager is on board with it and he’s a lot better at PR.

Either that or he actually does just want to leave?

He was house hunting last week, so he must be very upset at being forced out of the club this week. ;)

I realise I’m definitely in the minority on this one, but this is just my opinion based on the pattern of outgoing transfers this season and the PR spin that has accompanied each one.

The club are really pushing the ‘he wants to leave’ line, but we’ve been trying to get rid of him since things went sour with Monk in December/January and we started a clear (to me anyway) agenda of recovering costs.

It’s a two way thing, not as simple as the club and some fans are making out.

We where trying to get rid of bamford in January. But braithwaite asked to leave so we let him go instead.

You’ll all have to put me in the OneBoro stockade and throw tomatoes at me because I think the club will happily get any high earners off the books and sell anyone for a decent fee that they can until further notice! (and they’re not being ‘transparent’ with fans which they made a big point of last year, in fact I think they’re being the opposite)

  9. I think the club have stitched Braithwaite right up with this one.

  11.

Interesting that there was no mention of Rafa Silva in that article, perhaps the echo are back tracking on their initial bullishness.

Also interesting to see that Braithwaite is by far our highest paid player...

That is very interesting... it does fit the pattern of offloading whatever the club can to improve finances.

The quote from The Northern Echo:

"Spanish sides Girona and Leganes have expressed an interest in Martin Braithwaite, who is the highest-paid player on Boro’s books by a considerable margin"

I'm sure if he does go, we'll hear from the Tony 'PR'ulis:

"We only want players who want to be here'

when in all likelihood he's probably been told to find a new club, to get his wages off the books.

Another theory, are the Echo becoming the new club's PR spin agents? "Ooo look we're after Rafa Silva" then nothing.

Another theory, is Tony Pulis being incentivised financially to put the club in profit as part of his contractual remit?

To be fair, the Echo never said we were after Silva, they strongly denied it.

I got that from you Will!

I was meaning their initial bullish denial of the link

Ah, got it - MFC not in cahoots with the Echo then.

Echo saying Saville's close probably way ahead of Friday at 5pm because Millwall are close on his replacement also saying Pulis wants at least 1 winger in. Echo seems bullish that we tried on VLP but also that Rafa Silva is not a target so Nixon's got the past week half right I guess, if the Braithwaite departure happens that 1 winger who comes in has to be a very decent player whether it's Nkoudou or a PL level player to replace MB I don't see Pulis as the type to loan a youngster from a big club like we did with Harrison.

  13. Nice one Wilson.

I hope we can we refer to our 5-3-2 as 3-3-2-2 as it sounds way more exotic.

    ---------------- Randolph ----------------

    ---------- Ayala -- Flint --- Fry -----------

    -- Shotton ----- Clayton ----- Friend --

    -------- Howson ----- Downing --------

    ---- Assombalonga -- Hugill* ---------

*Braithwaite to be shipped out on a loan/option to buy before the match.

Think this will be a 1-1 or 2-2 draw, which will be a good result for us.

  14. Transfermarkt has him playing RW far more than any other position.

Might be wrong but I thought he played wing a lot at lower levels when he was younger but changed to a more central role as he got older.

This is what I thought. Last 3 or 4 years I'd say he's almost exclusively played centrally

Are we still talking about Rich?
