I agree it's a valid point. But I suppose the counter argument is, if the player is more interested in what distractions are available (ie pubs, clubs and 5 star spa resorts), would we want them here? Obviously it comes down to the person, I think Huth is a decent example, was in the capital getting a decent pay, but wanted to play so he trekked all the way up here to get 1st team football.
