  1. Have previously posted about not being a Greenwood fan. Last night was one of his worst displays.

He cba to put in the effort to chase his man back in 1st half injury time last night when we conceeded a few mins before and Clarke had to leave his man to cover. Moves broke down with him, he was dispossessed almost at will.

He's a luxury player that provides luxury on a very occasional basis. He is a free kick expert but has only scored one and most of his others go over the bar.

Saying that he must be due to score a goal soon!

Bloke behind me was telling ref to send him off!

  2. Bernard Gent on a matchday, seemingly playing Rick Astley on a loop. The wooden seats in the North Stand. The ball boys in those strange orange and white outfits that they wore. I recall the atmosphere always being loud and behind the team. Great times and happy memories which I hope my kids have similar memories about the Riverside when they get to my age.

Then the match started and Dean Glover and Hammy smashing into the opposition, Bernie being constantly offside. Proper connections between the club and the fans.

Happy times, but yeah Brucey is legend of the club in my eyes.

  3. Reading the posts about Greenwood, I just don't see anything special.

First touch and passing aren't great and his work rate doesn't seem as high as others.

Attacks regularly breakdown with him and he doesn't have the ability to beat a man like Rodgers did. Then when he loses the ball he gives terrible free kicks away

Free kicks are obviously his strong point but outside that he goes missing in games for ages.

Choice of Greenwood for £1.5m or using some of that money to renew Paddy,  it'd be Paddy all day and look elsewhere for a forward player.

  4. Thought with 11 men we seemed to struggle with whether to press or sit off and we ended up doing neither that well.

Slightly more concerning was despite the numbers in defence we got done a few times by fairly straight passes. The goal is an example but there were others.

There was one situation in the 1st half when our midfield went awol and they were breaking towards our box. Having the extra defender helped snuff out that where with a back 4 it may have ended up with a shot on goal.

Overall, thank goodness for the 3 points which buys a bit of breathing space!

I know Barlaser has been poor but we shouldn't boo a player coming onto the pitch for us surely. Poor lads confidence must he shot and then his home fans boo him. I understand we pay our money so can voice our opinions but not sure how booing him is going to help him or the team.

  5. How excited are you for the game? Even though I have a ST I'd quite like not to go. The realisation when we go 0-1 that the game is over really takes away any enthusiasm I have for the game. Largely, the players don't seem to care so why should I!

What would your team and formation be?

    Carrick won't but I would play 4-1-4-1

    Dieng

    Djkes, Rav, Clarke, Engle

    O'Brien

    Forss, Azaz, McGree, Silvera

    Latte

How long does Carrick have left?

Two defeats in two and it is thanks for the memories.

  6. Always been in the in camp but the last two performances have swung me to he needs to go.

Gradually things have been getting worse. Tactics all over, doesn't know his best 11. Crowd are turning and I just feel even if he wins the next two l  another couple of defeats and we're back here again.

The only player who looked disappointed when going down the tunnel today was Mcgree.  The rest looked like they don't care.

I do think largely this is down to poor recruitment but Carrick has a hand in that too.

The performances are worse now than at the end of Wilder and more akin to when Woodgate was here.

  7. 1. Will Carrick finally see sense and drop Glover? When everything points to us going a certain way Carrick will no doubt not do it. I expect the man from down under to be between the sticks/in the back of his net.

    2. How quickly will Dieng concede from us playing it out from the back if so?

Within the first 20 mins. Our defence cannot hold on for longer than that.

    3. Have you ever had an oatcake?

Nope. And won't be having one this time either.

    4. What's your favourite thing to come from Stoke?

The ball from Rory Delap's throw in.

    Score 2-0 defeat.

    Team

    Glover

    Ayling  McNair Clarke Engel

    Barlaser O'Brien

    Forss Azaz McGree

    Silvera

I wasn't going to this game and bought my tickets the morning after Leicester. If I could get a refund and not travel I would do so.

No matter how good a manager is, they can only work with that they have. If we have another summer window of prospects and rejects then I don't see us getting anywhere.

This summer was not an unreasonable change of direction but a this point we have had 30+ games and we still don't know how good the majority of the buys were.

If we sold and/or didn't re-sign Glover, J Jones, Engel, Bangura, Thomas, Ayling, O'Brien, Greenwood, Silvera, Late Lath, Gilbert, Agyemang and Nkrumah I think we would mostly forget them instantly. Engel seems a decent person, Bangura might be good, we have no idea. Latte Lath has some promise but if we got back what we paid I doubt anyone would be too worried.

Obviously that's not going to happen but the general point is that right now it's hard to see any of our summer signings beyond Dieng and RVDB looking as though they are capable of playing in a promotion chasing side. Presumably O'Brien is once he's fully fit but other than that, who knows.

Yep agree. So you could argue our recruitment hasn't been good enough notwithstanding some allowance for injuries if we're saying only 2/3 may fit into a promotion chasing side.

  9. Souness says as a club you live and die by your recruitment.

Next season will largely be dictated by how good a job Scott does in the summer and then can Carrick quickly mold them into a team.

I'm Carrick in but if we start next season like this it would be time for him to go I think. On that subject, I'd be keen to see the club hold off on a new contract for him at present. That can be sorted next season if he manages to get things going in the right direction.

  10. If true, surely this is why clubs have a fining system. A wage gone for a week or two and then integrate back into the squad after injury.

If the club have fined him (which obvs we don't know) and just kept him out of the squad too, it seems unfair.

  11. Apathy not anger towards this team. The players as a collective are not good enough. Too inconsistent,  lacking any real leaders and devoid of ideas.

Carrick has my support but he needs to consider if it is worth sacrificing his principles and show some more defensive traits and counter attack.

Thank goodness we have the points in the bag to be more or less safe as that was a relegation performance today.

Be good of us to help Stoke out next week for 3 points as they are struggling.

I don't mind losing if there is some fight and desire but there was very little today.

  12. Any price reduction is good work from all those involved.

I still think the club could do more to incentivise season tickets which could be achieved without having to play with the prices too much and could form part of the overall package.

5-10% reduction in the club shop (I know!), hospitality and at Rockcliffe, first dibs at sales, free stadium tour, every season ticket holder/ticket purchased is entered into the prize draw to win a kit, entry to pre-season training session at the Riverside. None of this would cost the earth and just are a small token to show, the fans money is appreciated.

The club already do some bits like free entry to U18/U23's games which they don't mention that often. They also need to look at how some other teams market themselves via YouTube etc. so they can make money from digital content. Even the Mackem's have better digital content involving the players than we do.

  13. After being accused of letting in soft goals Tom.Glover snaps and goes full rage mode.

He rises unchallenged and punches a Leicester corner into his own net followed by quickly converting an Engle backpass from close range.

He completes his hattrick in the second half where a Vardy penalty hits the bar and Glover heads home the rebound.

    3-0 Leicester.

Carrick then brings Dieng on .....at right back.

Are you sure you were there?

At no point did we give Preston a two goal start.

Or have you just gotten back from the Bristol

OK I get your point but we gave them two goals so needed 3 to win.

I have my Leciester tickets but seriously considering saving the petrol money.

Yea definately after the deflection. It’s a tough one because keepers do have to try and dive as early as possible, maybe he thought it was looping into the top corner or something. I’d still put this goal down to luck rather than keeper error, definately misjudged it though.

Agree. Blaming Glover for the second goal is harsh. 1st goal is his fault 100%.

Preston had 3 shots on target all from losing the ball in our own half.

If Carrick has nouse he'll abandon playing out against Leicester.

I hope I'm wrong but we might get tanked on Saturday.

  16. This squad are too inconsistent to make the play offs. We can make some excuse due to the injuries but we've lost/drawn far too many games.

16 games left so 48 points to play for. We probably need 35 points to make play offs. This will be 11 or 12 wins. We've won 12 games out of 30 so far this season in the league.

Still, I'll be there tonight more out of hope than belief of winning.

  17. I wanted to move seats after the end of this season so I think there'll be plenty of options!

Buy the kids kits from China, stop buying a programme and miss a few away days out which given the chore it is at the minute shouldn't be a problem. Next season might even end up cheaper for me overall!

  18. Looking ahead to QPR game and thinking about driving down on the Friday and staying over.

Going to leave car overnight. Where would be the best location to leave the car and catch a tube in but avoiding worst of the London traffic.

Yes, a car park would be the best place to leave the car for all you smart ***!
