They are less likely to deliver today than an out of form Greenwood.

I would bring in a defensive coach to work alongside Carrick. Let him concentrate on playing through the midfield to the strikers, while a specialist defensive coach could get the best out of our defence. I’d also hire a set piece coach too.

That’s just normal for most supporters of championship teams. Win some lose some, occasionally get lucky occasionally get unlucky. Some games are fun to watch, some are stinkers. That’s life really, don’t let it ruin your weekend.

Not a bad window so far. We’ve shored up the defence with 2 prem standard full backs, both on loan, but possible permanent signings in the summer if they fit in. Old Scott has done amazing business, picking up Morgan and selling him on 6 months later for a massive profit, meanwhile replacing him with Azaz, a more rounded player. We’ve not signed a striker, but there aren’t many worth buying at the moment, so all in all, a good window. UTB

This transfer window is incredibly dull, just loads of people talking about former players contracts and financial fair play…pages and pages of the bloody stuff. Now where are the spats? The arguments? The insults, derailments and threats of a concise transfer thread? I can honestly say that this is the worst window yet!

Yes that’s the impression that I got too, that’s why I was interested to hear more details from @Simply Red He undoubtedly had talent, but didn’t seem too tactically astute.

That’s interesting. I liked Ledesma, although he was a bit hit and miss. Why do you think he never quite found the consistency that would have made him fulfil his potential? Was it the manager or the role he was asked to play or his general attitude? It would be interesting to know.

Ha ha, you missed the square about the total meltdown having missed out on a player that everyone wants, but no one has actually heard of.

In terms of possible achievements, yes. unfortunately I can’t see us beating Chelsea over 2 matches and I don’t see much chance of promotion this year. I’m not too upset about that, I’d like another season of progression in this division without the usual overhaul of players in the summer. The Villa match is a free hit and a chance to raise the club’s profile on national TV against a premier league side. Ultimately we are aiming to do that every week in the near future, so let’s not be shy.

It’s a televised game, which I think will mean our players raise their game a bit more, we often do in these situations. I don’t think we’ll win, but I don’t think we’ll get hammered either. Our team picks itself, Villa will rest a few players, so who knows? I hope there is a decent turn out and a good atmosphere, it seems an awful lot of supporters have given up on this one already, when realistically a one off match at home to a weakened side, compared to a 2 legged tie against a team who really want to get to the final is probably slightly more winnable.

On the subject of injuries…I’m not sure that’s it’s a problem only confined to us. The way we play and press, means a lot more is expected of our players, compared to the way we played under Wilder, Warnock or Pulis. Brighton, Newcastle and Spurs all have long injury lists too, it’s possibly just the way the modern game is played, there is a lot more running, twisting and turning these days and the human body has it’s limitations.
