Yeah just listened to the presser thats on website @Teacider and not sure if MC let slip but he said “there are important players here we want to keep for the long term”.

Not sure if that was a general comment or one aimed at loan players. Think we will try keep Ayling and O'Brien and let go of Greenwood and Thomas.

I’d be happy with that, it’s hard to find a good proven and affordable cm and we’ve got one on a plate with O’Brien with the added try before you buy benefit. Ayling I think is a no brainer if he’s cheap enough.

end to domestic i-follow as well, although if anyone even used that I imagine now tv will simply take over that.

the international i-follow service will remain, so if you use iptv its still going to work

That sucks I used it for pretty much every midweek game

Wow just goes to show how mad this league can be. It is mad that all 4 teams still have automatic promotion in their own hands. I do feel the team/teams that fail to go up automatically out of the top 3 will fail in the playoffs.

Southampton were always still in it but had 2 games in hand so looked miles off.

I think they will have the money to hang onto their main assets: Davis, Chaplin and Broadhead. They do have a few fair important loans ending which will require a rebuild. Looks like their keeper and Morsy both have their contracts ending.

Fundamentally they have the actual money and the PSR headroom to invest. Their problem will be the same one that we and Coventry faced when you have to rebuild too much of a team. I had a quick loan at their team versus us

    Hladky - contract ends June

    Tuanzebe - contract ends June

    Woolfenden

    Burgess  - contract ends June

    Davis

    Burgess  - contract ends June

    Morsy  - contract ends June

    Luongo

    Hutchinson - Loan

    Chaplin

    Sarmiento - loan

    Al-Hamadi

I suspect that they could re-sign most of the players whose contracts are expiring but they may also be looking to upgrade some of the positions. They will need to be careful but I think they will be able to financially outcompete us next season if they are still in the league. Their better performance than us will also mean they may be able to outcompete us for players too.

Why would Ipswich be able to financially out compete us?

  5. I watched his highlights, looks a lot like O’Brien in the way he plays, his passing doesn’t look anything worse than any of our midfielders, but he also doesn’t stand out as an exceptional passer. He’s more of a ‘busy’ player and pops up in different areas of the pitch. I think he’s a player Carrick would play tbf, though he’s definately more of a #8 and looks like he’d get knocked off the ball a lot.

Bring him in. Lets take a punt on him. Not signed a player from lower leagues for sometime. Carayol and Ledesma vibes.

Max Dean if we’re going for a lower league player decent finisher.

A big risk offering Ayling a contract considering his age and fitness/injury record over the last couple of seasons. With Smith coming back, maybe, from a serious injury and Dilksreel on his way out we have to be careful we don’t end up in a situation where we start next season with no right full back. Better I think to bring in new blood and let Smith act as back up until it is clear whether he can continue his career

Dont think it’s a big risk at all tbh, specially if we’re looking at getting in a more long term right back aswell. Surely the bigger risk is going into the season with a younger rb and Smith with potential fitness issues as our only rbs is more of a risk? Ayling can also cover at CB aswell, could probably stick him at LB aswell if we were desperate.

Give Alan Browne his best club/wages offer

Bite the bullet early and re-sign Kamil Conteh or spend a bit more to get Luca Connell

I get the feeling Browne might be (rightly or wrongly) to ‘obvious’ an option for our recruitment team, that plus he will have the choice of basically every championship team, you could even see Ipswich getting him if they went up.

    That is knackers if true

A good solid keeper is crucial to every successful side and if we're looking to challenge next season, losing not only Dieng who's easily been our best since Randolph, arguably better for some .. but also Glover who has proven to be solid enough for a no.2 despite his performances declining during his stint in goal, he did get a bit 'early Jason Steele' and had those vibes but he is only young .. but anyway, not a good start at all to Summer window if there's any truth in that

I hope you're wrong but there were those rumours about Dieng misbehaving throughout January and the wages thing .. if him and Carrick don't get on or he just doesn't like it here then that's disappointing

Really thought we've found a solid keeper finally who'll be here for a long time and hope that proves to be the case

I don’t think the club will want to sell Dieng, but we have to be realistic and know if a prem club offers us £8-10m for him and throws silly money at him in wages then it’s gonna be hard for all involved to turn down. It could give us a summer budget of £25m+, something we could only dream about a couple of years ago.

Yes as fans we all want Dieng to stay but again we just need to be realistic if it did come to it and he did leave. Let’s be real if a prem club does show serious interest then it’s probably gonna happen wether the club want it to or not.

As fans we need to just stay patient, when Steffan needed replacing last season not one person mentioned Dieng, there are good keepers everywhere (beyond the obvious names) who can come in and we need to trust Scott will have a large list and targets already.

People don't make things up on here 😲

I would think there's a fair chance Akpom will be looking for a move somewhere as he's only started 7 games in all competitions for Ajax.  Unless he knows that will change then he's got to be looking elsewhere.  The only thing with him coming back here would be the financial side of it though both in terms of a transfer fee and what I'm assuming is his more expensive contract.

I think his wages would be the biggest obstacle, you’d imagine he signed a contract on wages outside of our structure.

    You’ve just made that up.

But don’t let that get in the way of a good yarn!

It wouldn’t surprise me if it’s made up but also wouldn’t surprise me if it’s true. Maybe akpom has got his ‘big move’ desire out of his system, he seems to have been a sub most of the season with 21 games and despite being at a huge club isn’t enjoying it as much as he was here. He knows he loves it here, we know he fits our system, could well be a match made in heaven and a loan to buy if promoted could do the trick, specially if the new Ajax manager doesn’t really fancy him.

RVDB Dutch interview from earlier in the week. A few interesting quotes that sound positive.

“Middlesbrough is a huge club with a lot of supporters. That's also because you don't actually have many other big clubs here, except Leeds United, although that's not really close either.”

“The fans are great. Everyone loves football here. I'm still amazed that almost all home games are sold out and that so many supporters go to away games. We regularly travel by plane, but the fans travel by car or train and to think that we also often play during the week. They are just there, I really appreciate that. And I find them more positive than in the Netherlands. They want you so badly to win every match and they always support you. Even if you lose. As long as they see that you have done everything you can. They still love a hard tackle every time.”

So, he's had a good time. Excellent. There are also a couple more quotes that were interesting.

    On Boros promotion prospects:

"Middlesbrough has a name and history and really wants to move up. I understand that they (Boro) want to make the necessary investments next season,"

Have the players been told that there's some serious investment this summer?

And, on his own immediate future:

There were rumors on social media about interest in me, but I didn't respond to them. After this I still have a contract for three years. For now I have no reason to leave. I'm really happy to be here.”

    Seems all good 😊

Love this article and relieved to see he seems happy here. I mentioned a few months ago being worried that he’s been thinking we’ve sold him a dud getting him to come here, thankfully I was wrong.

It doesn’t surprise me if the players are told about our investment plans, we want them to stay here specially the likes of Hackney, VDB, McGree, Lath. Explaining our plans for the summer and next season after what has been over all a bad season despite this strong finish would be a big part of enticing them to stay here.

  13. I’d have Sorba Thomas as a Greenwood replacement, i.e rotation/bench player, would be an upgrade on greenwood and is a total set piece specialist. I don’t think we’d get promotion with for example Thomas and Jones as our main creative options.

Dembele and willock would be top of my list for those wide positions from my limited knowledge. The #10 is still absolute 100% priority, if we have the ability to spend a chunk of cash on one position it has to be spent there. Someone clever, strong and composed on the ball.

With regards to the centre halves I thought both Clarke and VDB were poor yesterday. Still yet to see VDB really excel in a back two. He’s done all his really good work in a back three to date. As someone above said Fry, RVDB, Clarke and Lenihan are as good a pool of defenders as you’ll see at this level.

Our problems in the number of goals we concede is due to the way we play. The system we play needs better balance. I feel like the closest we’ve come to having that balance is when Howson and Hackney have played together in the centre. That’s not backed by numbers by any means, it’s just how I see it when I see them play together.

I noticed against Hull there never seems to be enough of our players around, like we set up already ‘stretched’ as a team and that’s our default. It’s hard to describe like no matter where the ball is there never seems to be enough of our players compared to attacking players.

I don't think it's fair to judge Engel when he has had a complete hotch potch of team mates in front of him wide left all season, Rogers, Greenwood, McGree, Silvera, Azaz etc. etc. We have had zero understanding and synergy down that left side all season allied to a weak midfield that hasn't offered as much protection as we would reasonably have expected.

Oh come on it’s absolutely fair, time after time he just doesn’t do enough, just not reliable enough to be our #1 LB imo. He can improve in a better team yes but it will need to be one hell of an improvement. Sick of all the excuses now tbh, based on this season it’s glaringly obvious he’s just not good enough.

If you look at the last few performances it should be possible to improve to a point where we can challenge next season but we need to solve our frailty in midfield with Howsons replacement, somebody who could tackle would be nice. Another striker is essential but I have great hopes for LL next season. I have grave doubts about Engel his lack of pace makes him too vulnerable and the other full back place is down to whether we believe Ayling can keep going. Other places in the squad can created by releasing Greenwood and Silvera as I just do not believe they can achieve the level of this league

Yep a second option up front is needed but we have to invest heavily behind the striker and in midfield. A dominating cm and #10 are vital if we wanna go up, I’d also like to see Bangura tried at lb between now and the end of the season, I think Engel is just to much of a weak link.

The squad isn't good enough for a top six challenge  and that's putting it bluntly. Great run so far but it doesnt make up for a poor start and the inconsistency.
If anything I would say we have overperformed considering the quality and quantity of the squad.
I still doubt Carrick at best he is an average and predictable manager. However it is not worth changing him because we don't have the ambition, finances or a capable board, coaches or recruitment team.

We’ve literally just spent the last few weeks challenging for the top 6 tho lol.
