I don’t think people actually dislike crooks it’s more just being annoyed at him playing striker #10 where he’s awful everytime. If he played in midfield then he’d barely be mentioned unless he played brilliantly which he might end up doing, his best spell by far for us was in midfield.

He's not been awful every time as a striker though, has he? That's proven. He's won us points almost single handedly.

I think some fans are just so traumatised from the Warnock/Pulis era they just can't see a 'big man' and not quiver in trauma.

He's a limited player, aye. But without him we wouldn't have made the play offs last season.

He's not a perfect fit for our system, but he's someone who offers something different that has actively won us points, and would do so again. In midfield, at 10, or at 9.

    Morgan Rogers up there 👏

This is why I've been saying all along that he's made for the #10 role. Rogers is a really exciting signing - West Brom fans down here in the Midlands are saying he'll be a huge addition.

His versatility and creativity will be massive imo. If he can work on his finishing he'd be a beast (we've said that before...).

  3. If 'Smith' was calling 'Smithinho' he'd be much more popular among Boro fan... 🙃

Smith is fine. He's not amazing. He's not crap. He's a serviceable RB at this level, and Carrick clearly sees him as someone who adds stability and structure to his fluid system.

There's far more to football than goals, xG, assists, and key passes.

    Coulson is ***. Please discuss....

Coulson needs to go somewhere where he avoids I juries and gets a solid run of games to truly find consistency for the first time in his senior career.

He's an okay footballer. Not the level we're after. But he can have a respectable career.

Assuming Akpom leaves, the two additions of Latte Lath and Engels would make things begin to look a lot more balanced. Obviously the unknown quantity of Matt Clarke is in amongst that too.

Would still have all of our loan slots open as well - so potential for further strengthening.

  6. I think Lath is the incoming with the Chuba money...

I can see McGree moving to a Free Role / 10 with Silvera starting down the left - both being interchangable and flexible to stretch defences and unlock compact formations teams will no doubt use to try and stifle Carrickball.

Rogers also an option at 10 - same flexibility with the wide man, but with added muscle when playing more combative sides.

Lath is the key which unlocks all that fluidity, and adds much needed fire power up top.

  7. To be fair, it's kind of to be expected with two players who've not necessarily played that way before and are still finding their feet in a higher calibre of league and opposition.

Aye, it looks bad. But both Glover and VDB are early on in their experience of the system and are bound to make mistakes. Learning from those mistakes is the key outcome, and I'm sure Carrick and his staff will discuss exactly that with them.

We made the plays off under Tony Pulis too to be fair.

Difference being that was a massive underachievement with that squad and investment.

What Carrick achieved with the squad he inherited, and then the January additions, was nothing short of remarkable - and anyone who says otherwise is a doyle.
