  1. I used those 2 names as examples, I could have picked others but I find it sad you think it worth adding your above remarks tbh.
  2. Impartial, enthusiastic and ability to leave the listener or viewer feeling like they were actually there sitting next to them. John Motson was like his peers of that time in football and other sports, the legacy he and others have left by creating a blue print for commentary that people want to follow even now leaves a legacy that few have. He didn’t fight a war like Churchill or sing songs like Elvis but the name Motson will remain as well known as those aforementioned by being simply bloody good at what he did.
  3. That style of stadium was the norm tbh. you might enjoy this https://teessidearchives.wordpress.com/2020/06/12/affection-architecture-and-football-in-and-beyond-the-archives-archibald-leitchs-stadium-plans-in-art-of-ayresome/
  4. Warnock managed Huddersfield years ago when they moved from their old ground to their new one, (like Robson did for us when we moved to the Riverside), he is a temporary stop gap solution but one that will carry some good will and understanding from the fans.
  5. It’s those little tweaks that MC has brought in to the squad that’s clear to see, sometimes it’s only the smallest of things that need changing or saying that make all the difference, like a thank you or a well done, on paper they seem trivial but on a human level what they give and the knock on to others they bring is quite often staggering.
  6. There is always one team that wobbles once the FA Cup third round is played, been solid and won plaudits for 4 months then nothing they do is right. 4 points ahead with a game in hand, any other team in the top 8 would take that at this stage in the season, but what a difference it is to 10 points ahead with a game in hand. Watched Heckingbottom post match interview and it’s like a rerun of mid week, the ref didn’t give them a free kick in the middle of the park and they go and concede a 2nd. Boro doing all they can, picking up points from every game. It’s been a long
  7. I was trying not to mention crisps, but if QPR became KPR then I would automatically think of crisps
  8. But Huddersfield are an odd club, it’s all or nothing and that comes from the top down. I lived there for over a decade and they know that to keep the fans and bring success they have to entertain to attract the fans. It’s very much a RL town first and foremost with a small geographic fan base. If they don’t go for it then the locals stop going as they feel that the club not trying to achieve. A great escape from relegation is better than mid table mediocrity.
  9. “ That’s Entertainment “ Never want things to be dull in the Boro do we. 😅
  10. Exactly on your last point, I feel the whole set up from Gibson, through the coaching staff and players to the fans are on the same page, the opportunity is there, and if promotion whether play off or automatic is achieved I believe that the current set up will have a plan and target that shows that we have learnt from what happened under Karanka and we wouldn’t squander the squad and spirit gained by promotion. i feel if we do go up this season then building on the squad by additions that benefit us in the medium to long term without ruining us financially are the key. As others ha
  11. IMHO Promotion this season will be through the playoffs, but battling and chasing Sheffield United putting the pressure on them will do us nothing but good as it’s a hard challenge, and it’s those challenges that can ultimately bring great rewards, look at Forrest last season, in a very similar position to us and a start to the season very like our own. The automatic spot is achievable but it’s relying on others to under achieve consistently, that’s not really logical but hey who ever said football was.
  12. To dream the impossible dream To fight the unbeatable foe To bear with unbearable sorrow To run where the brave dare not go To right, the un-rightable wrong To love pure and chaste from afar To try when your arms are too weary To reach the unreachable star This is my quest, to follow that star No matter how hopeless, no matter how far To fight for the right without question or pause To be willing to march into hell for a heavenly cause And I know if I'll only be true to this glorious quest That my heart will lie peaceful and calm When I'm laid to rest And
  13. Watching the Boro in Division 1 or PL with an uncompetitive squad isn’t great. I enjoy watching a Boro team competing in a competitive league playing good attractive football. I’ve watched the Boro in Divisions 1, 2 and 3, Premier League and Championship and European competitions. It was very difficult for a Boro team to compete at the highest levels of English football back when I first went to watch Boro in 79/80 season. Now the risks and chances of success are lower than they were back then. Getting promotion is great but you need to be realistic I’d rather have a 5 year pla
  14. It’s always an interesting thing to watch and discuss with hindsight just how a squad of virtually the same players can look and act for a new manager. Has Carrick brought in new methods and ideas? Are the players more willing to play for him? Was what was going on behind the scenes much more negative than suspected?. Was the lack of support from Gibson and Bauser apparent to the extent that any change would bring better results. Imo Yes the team and substitutes know what they are supposed to do and have confidence doing it now. Yes it’s clear to see just wha
  15. Sheffield United under a transfer ban by FL. Their owner looking to sell so not putting any money in, club have footballing debts so until they sell and cover them or new club owner covers them they cannot sign anyone.
  16. If it’s true That Watmore is leaving then I think we’ll done to him, the club, the fans. Everyone has known what his skills were and what his limitations were. Proper management by the coaching staff and a true professional attitude and behaviour by the player. This is why now that it looks like he is leaving I cannot find anyone who is not wishing the lad well and hoping he does well in the future, it’s been a while since a player has left and while it’s sad to see him go, it’s been a pleasure not to read negative comments from all sides until it’s happened.
  17. The good thing about sacking a manager is that for a time, the past performances of players become null and void and you can dream that the new management team will turn underperforming and underwhelming players into looking like new unbelievably good signings. Its all what ifs and maybes until the questions are answered but until then who knows but the team that ran out on Saturday might be the ones to be lifting the Championship Trophy come May.
  18. The Anglo-Italian competition was the height of exotic competition when I was young, not old enough for the first incarnation but the revamp in the 90’s gave a taste of what European competition was all about. Up till then it was waiting up switching between SportsNight on the BBC and MidWeek Sports Special on Tyne-Tees for a visual dose of exotic European football.
  19. I’m not too bothered who becomes manager tbh, I’ve seen managers appointed that I’ve not had faith in do well and also ones where the club and I were in agreement only to see them fail. To me the question isn’t really who we want as a manager ie young and full of new ideas or experienced and has a set record it’s more how will they fit into how the club actually works. looking at the club it’s full of long term former players/ coaches in back room positions that are secure unless they want to leave or they commit an act of treason towards Gibson. Any new manager/coach will need
  20. At least it would be be honest.... Football and player bids are secret for a reason, and Boro like to keep theirs even from the fans. Im not saying that Boro like other clubs have tried and failed in bids, that’s football, but with Boro it’s the same business model and public messages that it was over 10 years ago. It’s time that something changed.. No one wants the club to go under by making daft ridiculous offers, but because no one knows the real state of our finances or what we have actually done, all we have are over a decade of the same 3 messages reworded and put out at the en
  21. An interesting idea, but the fact the draft system only works in US sports is because there is no relegation, if the Premier/champ become a closed shop then a draft system created for that could work, but once you go down that road then imo what makes football football in England is gone.
  22. Get rid of the mid winter window. All transfers need to be done before season starts is correct, the fact other leagues start earlier later means we stuck with the current model.
  23. I would also go back to the old system of Referees too, the modern pro model is imo apart from fitness levels unfit for purpose. Squad numbers ok, but on field shirts should be 1-11. and return half time to 10 minutes not the current 15. Could list many of the supposed changes that hit football from the late 80’s that had the right ideas but implementation of them has left the game poorer imo.
  24. A 20 goal a season striker is what we need, personally I don’t care if I’ve never heard of them before or their career stats up to now don’t show that. I would also say we need a second striker who can chip in with 15+. For years we have had our main strike force has not done the job they were paid to do, there are many reasons for this, personally I go with the one the thatBernie cursed the Riverside and all Boro strikers until the club recognised in the form of a statue the debt owed to the Class of 86.
  25. I think Wilder is a coach/manager who is focussed on the first team and is a realist who understands a project might come good but depending on circumstances he might be gone, therefore projects are for the development teams and their coaches to do. Taking a gamble on a loan player for the first team is the only project he would be interested in and that would be a very short term one.
