  1. I think a lot of players have a Tomlin. I've referred previously to my mate who is a Norwich fan (now ex-mate, obviously ;) ) who really doesn't like Hoolahan, despite him being their maverick creative force, although from more of a wide area than Tomlin. He says he doesn't do enough, and that his contribution only comes off 1/5 times. And I think these 'highlights' players are all over the place. Anyone remember Paddy McCourt? The Irish lad at Barnsley who took on about 7 of our defenders to score in the game that ended Mogga's reign? He was on Soccer AM's showboat 4 times that season, but th
  2. I think if the finances are sorted and he was given the choice he would pick us over them. There may be other clubs who offer him prem football yet though. He did have a loan there once, so it depends what he reckoned to the setup on that occasion I suppose. I think if it was an even playing field he'd pick us 100%. But they have more money and are a division higher, it relies a lot on heart.
  3. That's a picture of Kike from 4 years ago
  4. Not sure if this is the home for this, but my mate from work is a Preston fan, and has a 'very reliable source' who works at the club, and he's just informed me that our opening game has been moved to the Sunday for Sky. Midday kick off. Don't shoot the messenger.
  5. The Boro website have just published an interview with Jim Husband where he is saying how he wants to make more of a mark at Boro next year. A filler piece, or strategic output braced for selling Friend?
  6. His shooting is dreadful, but I really like the lad. Seems to have an infectious personality, loves it here going from his Twitter, and of course, he's a very tidy midfielder.
  7. I wrote something for today's Gazette notebook about the GRFZ. It was written before I read this thread, so I've concentrated on the positives, but anyway: http://www.gazettelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/live-stewart-downing-links-plus-9508285#ICID=sharebar_twitter
  8. I always have the caveat that I'm dubious of most of them, I just point them out :shy:
  9. That guy is just a boro fan who pretends to be ITK You might be right, and I'm not saying I think he's legit, but he reported Bamford coming to Boro long before we were seriously linked with him from other sources. Could have inside info, could have got lucky, but either way he called it.
  10. It's Yakubu! WE'RE GETTING THE BAND BACK TOGETHER!
  11. I made the point before that AK used him as a sub in pretty much every game after he was signed. Despite only arriving in January, I wouldn't be surprised to learn that Forshaw was our most featured sub last season. To me that suggests that AK was keen to get him blooded into the team. I personally expect to see him rotated a lot with our main two CMs this season, perhaps starting a few games when we need a more mobile midfield.
  12. No, at some point in July.
  13. It was before the Sheff Wed game at Hillsborough last year. There's a difference between being out past curfew and being out all night drinking.
  14. I agree Humpty. I'd be tempted at £1.5m but think we could find a much more effective goalscorer for any more. Of course, as I've said before, Vossen could have been forced into that position last season as a result of Bamford's goalscoring, so there could be a very good CF in there that we didn't really get to see.
  15. I think he'll be used in the squad in pre-season, given as good a chance as anyone, and if he impresses will start the season in the squad. But I think he knows his position is precarious, and that he will be out with the first sign of an attitude problem, or if a suitable bid arrives. Personally, I'm excited to see him back, but how long for, I don't know.
  16. Bamford and Vossen, when it worked, it really worked. Millwall away is the obvious one, but Ipswich at home, Wolves at home, and even Blackburn at home (although the end product was a bit lacking) are other games that they really read each others games. But you're right CT in that it didn't happen quite enough. It's a shame that they didn't have a full season of playing together (I've got nothing against Kike, mind), to see if that could have fully flourished.
  17. Wasn't there some supposed issue with him at the back end of the season? Fredericks said a number of times to the journos that he was fit at the end of the season, and yet made a single appearance after March, and that was 60 mins away at Fulham. Must have been some other issue.
  18. How many RBs do they want? Trippier, Dier, Fredericks, Walker, Yedlin. I bet they still end up playing Aaron Lennon there!
  19. Derby have a new manager and are rebuilding. It makes sense that they will have a high turnover of playing staff this summer. The same would have happened if AK had come in from June with a bit of money to spend. We are fine-tuning, and will bring in 5 players max, I'd have thought. And I'd hope each of them was better than Chris Baird or Weimann.
  20. It may be that Vossen always had to work that little bit harder than some others to impress Karanka, as he wasn't his signing so much as one that had been identified by the scouts during Mowbray's time. If AK has a player in mind that he has experience with previously, it might be that he'd much rather have him in.
  21. Whoever the striker is, it won't be Frederic Mendy. Those reports have been dismissed by the club.

The club just said 'July'. Nothing more specific than that. It was really late last season, about a week before the first game.
  23. Merson and Beck actually worked really well together, I thought. Merson at that point in his career would walk into any team in this division today (only if Will Hughes was injured at Derby, mind)
  24. The away ones are always more pricy though. For the lower league teams they are money spinners, especially against a team like us that are bound to take a few. Our pre season home games are less vital for revenue, unless we're playing one of the absolute top teams, it's probably not going to sell that well, especially as last year we had the opener at home against Birmingham just a week later, which it was much more important to have a big crowd for.
