  1. This is what I'm struggling with, I suppose. If the club wanted this story to come out weeks ago, why not brief the local press? Why was it picked up only yesterday, by Alan Nixon? And then shot down by Dom Shaw today, less than 24 hours later? If the club wanted the fans to think we'd bid for Cannon, why not feed Shaw the same info?
  2. Well, I'm in the minority in that I don't watch the press conferences, because they're all anodyne questions and he doesn't really answer them anyway. I think he's been great for what he's done on the pitch, but the pressers are dull. With the Akpom situation, he has to walk a bit of a tightrope. He can't say "Chuba's leaving" because the deal might break down. He can't say "Chuba's staying" because that's lying to the fans. So he says "Chuba is a part of the squad at the moment" which is boring and gives no-one any information, but it is at least true. With Cannon, are we interested
  3. Has the club said that we ARE interested? And can you post a link of that?
  4. Tom, Excellent poster but Carrick could of shut it down today when asked ... he hesitated when asked about cannon and then made a joke out of it... He could of easily imo shut it down That's a fair point, but don't you think that's Carrick being Carrick? He also said he wasn't closing the door on Akpom staying when he already had one foot out the door. He's clearly just not giving anything away. Also, If Carrick is being let down by the club as some have claimed, would he be playing the game and allowing false stories to trick the fans?
  5. The fact that you're continually willfully ignoring is that the local press literally did shut down the Cannon story today, presumably after speaking to contacts within the club.
  6. So the local press do what the club tell them? So the club briefed Dom Shaw to shut down the Cannon story? Isn't that in direct contradiction to all the nonsense you've been spouting that the club want people to think we WERE in for Cannon? 😂 Or is Alan Nixon in the club's pocket as well? How deep does the conspiracy go???
  7. Once again, you're going to have to explain the logic to me here. Yesterday's Cannon story came from Alan Nixon, a journalist with no ties to North East clubs, and no connection to Boro. The main thing he's reported about us this year are weeks on end saying we were in for Karl Darlow, and then saying we wanted O'Brien. So let's call his success rate 'mixed'. Let's assume you're right, and the club have fed a false story, for some reason, to Alan Nixon. Why then, would they allow Dom Shaw, who we know for a face DOES have contacts at the club, to shoot the story down less than 24 ho
  8. "We are not in for Tom cannon" is nothing like "it looks unlikely" Unlikely, on a probability scale is above zero but below a quarter. Shut down means zero chance Clutching at straws. For your theory to be correct, wouldn't Dom be continuing to pedal the story that we are pushing hard for Cannon? He also said that we hadn't bid for him. Wasn't your point that Gibson was feeding the media lies that we were bidding for players? Kinda flies in the face of that if Shaw is tweeting that no bid has been submitted.
  9. You aren't suggesting a conspiracy are you? Tut tut. It's not like the club haven't shut down talks of a fairly big money move and then spent about a million and some small loan fees 🤣 The club did shut it down. Dom Shaw reported earlier that Cannon looked unlikely, and that we hadn't made a bid. Where do you think his info came from?
  10. I'd personally like to see us bring a striker in tomorrow, but if the fallout of not doing so is that Coburn gets chances, it's not the worst thing.
  11. Dom Shaw saying that we've not bid for Cannon.
  12. We're signing Bangura, who is a left back, so Coulson will be going
  13. 3 in, possibly a 4th to follow. Many on here said we weren't looking to bring anyone in!
  14. The "player that gets the fans thinking Gibson is going to splash the cash" failing in the last few days There wasn't one of those last summer. Strand Larsen had been linked for ages, but by the end of the window, it was commonly accepted that it wasn't happening. But there were fairly strong rumours from members on here that Strand Larsen was a serious target. This time no names bar Archer have really been mentioned, and then Cannon's comes up right near the deadline. If Gibson was spreading fake rumours, why didn't he say we'd bid for Archer? Or various other strikers ov
  15. Tbf he has a very similar record to archer did a year ago, so I guess it could be worth it if you can make a fair bit of the 7m add ons Yeah, this. I know hindsight makes it easier, but if we could have signed Archer for £7m a year or two ago, we absolutely should have done.
  16. You really think fans are sat at home thinking, oh my god if we sign Tom Cannon I’m getting a season ticket? Not at all, but Gibson does, according to some on here.
  17. I assume things with Cannon will move quickly, and we'll have an idea where he's heading today, and if it's not here, a new name will pop up before the day is out. Hopefully we're genuinely interested, and Steve Gibson isn't trying to shift season tickets by conning the fans into thinking we're bidding for a player with 23 senior appearances!
  18. Least it’s fun to track Really testing the boundaries of the word 'fun' there.
  19. So, just to see if I'm following this: Gibson wants fans to believe that we've bid for Tom Cannon. A young, relatively unproven forward. But we haven't, so we won't get him. He's fed the story that we have, not to the local reporters, but to national football journalist Alan Nixon, who puts his stories behind a paywall. I suppose my question is...why? Why not pretend we're bidding for a bigger name, if it's all make believe anyway? Why does it matter to him that the fans believe we have money if we're not spending it anyway? And, if the ruse is an attempt to make the club seem f
  20. Fairly sure neither the Echo nor the Gazette reported that. The local media can't win. When they don't report stuff, it's because they don't have a relationship with the club and know nothing, and when they do, they're a propaganda arm, putting out false stories to... make fans think we were close to signing players that we didn't sign?
  21. Aren't we currently operating with 23 senior players? Even if we assume Matt Clarke is not fit and won't be registered, that's still only 3 incomings allowed without some moving out.
  22. It's the bi-annual conspiracy. Every. Single. Window. Yes, it's one of the more unhinged theories. Which is saying something.
  23. As I've said before, leaking stories that we're interested in 3 players, without the intention to sign any of them, would be a terrible strategy to get fans onside. It's far more likely that we actually are trying to chase these players.
  24. I hope it wasn't round the back of the station, only a very specific type of person would be on their knees there. I would imagine.
