  1. I had my pessimistic hat on yesterday but I think you can be a bit more optimistic about the above record. Obviously the poor run has been split in two by preseason and a turnover of players and I think in this situation you probably need to look at them as two separate runs. I don't think we were particularly found out at the end of last season, I just think we had a squad with injuries and a lot of fatigue. Not only that we clearly took our foot off the brake once we'd secured the playoffs. It wasn't a normal run of fixtures. Onto the start of this season I think it is more
  2. It's obviously both, if Carrick is the manager we all hope he is then he needs to tweak things and start getting results. No one wants to see last seasons style abandoned but I think there's certain games where you need to be a bit harder to break down, especially away from home.
  3. Well it's pretty common knowledge that he's interfered before under previous managers so it's not a wild accusation.
  4. No one is saying get rid of Gibson though are they? And the measure of success is that he hasn't let the club go bust how low is the bar? Yes you're right he's doing all the things we've been asking for, and yes we probably should be patient. But the frustrating thing is we are hearing stories now from pretty reliable posters about him getting involved in the recruitment again and breaking promises to a manager. Its a recurring pattern and if he is having input into the recruitment strategy and the players we are signing why do we need Scott? Sometimes on here it seems li
  5. If you look at my posts on the last couple of pages you'll see my opinions on how well ran I think we are. I just don't think Everton are a particularly attractive prospect at the moment. Alright, they are a traditionally big club, big fanbase and new stadium but the squad is in an awful state and they recruit worse than us. I think they need a Dyche at the moment to try and bring some stability, I dont think it's a club for a young manager. Being under immediate pressure and get regularly walloped on the big stage wouldn't be a good move for Carrick IMO.
  6. There might be an argument at the moment for playing 3 in the middle, at least away from home and in the more difficult games. With a proper CDM, Hackney and Howson could press higher up with a bit of insurance behind them. I loved watching us play last season even though we were wide open at times, it does feel at the moment though that we need to find a bit more balance.
  7. Everton must be pound for pound the worst ran club in the country. Their new stadium looks beautiful but the club just seem to be a disaster on the pitch. If Dyche can't get them away from the bottom 4 I'm not sure who can. To me they look like a club who might not move forward until they get relegated and rip things up and start again. They just seem to jump from one mess to another and I think Carrick would be mad to go there.
  8. We'll see what happens this week then I suppose. I'm not saying we should be making 6 or 7 loan signings either but I wouldn't ignore that market altogether. As for the cost of loans yes you could view that as wasted money, the likes of Archer and Ramsey came in last season, we helped them develop and Villa have reaped the rewards. The other side of that is if we'd kept all our players fit and fresh towards the end of the season we could be playing Premier league football now. Every signing or loan has an element of risk, how much is Payero going to cost over the length of his cont
  9. This sounds like the most pessimistic outlook going but I'm sorry this is how I'm feeling at the moment. I read the comment from neverbefore about no 2 seasons being the same but I watch the Boro and it just seems like we are stuck in a cycle of mediocrity. You feel like we make progress as a club like we did under Karanka, Wilder and Carrick then we just mess things up as a club and end up right back where we started. No 2 seasons are the same but we just seem to make the same mistakes over and over again. I was quite optimistic a month ago, I could see the sense of a lot of o
  10. Don't think we need to worry about that scenario mate.
  11. Same every window, different managers but the same crap over and over again.
  12. I could give the same advice as Pulis: 1. Narrow the pitch. 2. Play 5-4-1 3. Sign a couple of big bruising centre backs. 4. Sign someone who can take a long throw. 5. Play with 5 centre backs and 3 defensive midfielders. Genuis.
  13. Blame who you want but the cold hard facts are we take one step forwards and then 2 steps back as a club. We just can't seem to get anything consistently right. Managers and behind the scenes staff move on but things never change, the only constant is the chairman.
  14. We've moved up a place in the table if you want a positive from today 🤷‍♂️
  15. I can see the reasoning behind it, maybe that means we are trying to do things in a more patient manner rather than attacking a single season with expensive loans. I don't know about anyone else but I feel like Kieran Scott needs to really prove himself now. If we are buying players then we need to see progression over the next 2 seasons, if his signings don't work out then he's under pressure.
  16. Strength in depth, its not rocket science. If there's one position where you want another option it's upfront. If Lath is the second coming of George Weah then he'll start more than enough games anyway.
  17. Or we have 2 strikers who can compete for a starting position, this also gives us the ability to change a game with someone good to come off the bench and the benefit of being able to rotate and keep them fresh.
  18. Nice research, now get back to work before your boss realises you've spent the last 3 hours on YouTube.
  19. I agree the aim for the team is promotion, but I think more importantly the mission of the club is for it to be ran more sustainably without needing Gibson to keep supporting it financially. To do that I think we will sell players who have value and we are signing players who we can develop and add value to for the future. Of course we want promotion but do you think we'll sack Carrick if he eventually doesn't get us there? At the moment I'd also ask have we given Carrick all the resources he needs to get us promoted? I don't think Carrick has come here to tread water in the Champio
  20. I think Chelsea are just saying "stuff FFP, we'll do what we want".
  21. Lines up with what I was told as well.
  22. The lengths we go to to win an argument on the Internet, I wish I still had this energy 😂
  23. In terms of recruitment, I dont think our plan is really much different to the majority of other clubs at our level. Those with more money can just buy better versions of players. I can't think of many teams in the Championship who aren't trying 'to do a Brentford' you can call it whatever fancy name you want but the top and bottom of it is you need to sign good players. Where Kieran Scott is concerned I think the jury is still out.
