  1. Dunno what to say, Borolegend.

Maybe, though, I thought you were bigger than that.

Then again, our new manager has removed the discrepancy between our away and home results very quickly so, like you say, well done Mr Strachan - on that score at least.

  2. I don't see us finishing up like Leeds, whatever happens.

Having said that, our prospects of finishing in the top two seem to grow more and more remote with every match. The Crystal Palace result leaves me shaking my head in disbelief at our inability to turn pitch-side superiority into points.

That job is one for the manager and his players so WTF is going on at Boro? Southgate got the elbow because he couldn't sort it out and Gordon Strachan is faring no better, so far. My brain hurts.

    Not to mention my wallet!

  3. You know something Bugrit, I don't think Boro could beat Leeds at present.

I'm listening to tales about another inspired performance by yet another opposition goalie. This is same old, same old, dammit. :(

Four minutes extra time! C'mon Boro!

  4. Ragnar, I'm sure that you don't need to feel any dread about another Leeds scenario befalling Boro. We disposed of our high wage-earners while we (with foresight?) prepared for life in the Championship and now we are here, we can compete here for pretty much as long as we want to.

The season is still young and there's still everything to play for and we've got an experienced manager in charge for the first time in yonks, so cheer up, pal.

  5. Then again, the same players will be more expensive in June than in January so you pay your money and you take your chances. 'Tis up to the manager to weigh up what's best and Strachan has a wise old head on his shoulders. At least, I hope he has, still.

  6. "Conspiracy to... whatever" is a charge the police sometimes use when it isn't obvious that a crime has actually been committed by their targets.

Incidentally, he was arrested at the training ground following an earlier incident elsewhere, somewhere off club premises. It was something to do with a second-hand car sale.

  7. Went down again for me as well, early evening.

By the way, the board's time is currently two hours ahead of my clock. I have had a scout around but I can't find anywhere so does anyone know how to adjust the board's time zone?

  8. Just like any other team game, what matters most is how the team's components interact with each other and I don't think it's particularly helpful to consider an individual's stats, when he wasn't even part of the team.

It might be more helpful to look at what we need in a given position in terms of general skill and overall physical attributes, as opposed to any proposed recruit's personal end-product in the past. For a classic example, I think Heskey's role in the England squad - where he's not exactly a proficient goal-scorer - definitely adds something to the side. The other strikers certainly seem to benefit from his presence.

My conclusion? Forget about any prospective recruit's personal goal-scoring record. We need a bruiser up front and it doesn't matter much whether he's a proficient goal-scorer himself, so long as he can make space for the others. End of story.

  9. I must say it was a massive problem for Strachan to tackle us being a massive 1 point off the top when Gareth was sacked.

Did that feel good, Borolegend? I have to say I don't blame you, not after the staunch rear-guard action you've fought for the past couple of years. ;)

  10. Sky have updated quickly but there seem to be differences between their figures and mine so don't be surprised if what they show for your week's tally isn't the same as the figure in the table below. Your points total should agree, however.

It's been a high-scoring round and nearly everyone picked up 30 points or more, with three managers sharing the week's top-scorer spot on exactly 50 points.

Last week's joint leaders are still arm-in-arm but VB is running on strongly on the outside and is now within 5 points of overhauling the pair of them. Indeed, the former breakaways have been reeled in steadily and the competition is starting to look much more open.

Watch out, everyone. ABH is coming. :D
