  1. Ali B on Radio Tees has just remarked O'Neil's presence at RB... if I didn't already know that Hoyte was in the side, I would have laid odds on that O'Neil was filling in for him. He's gonna be knackered doing his own thing and covering for that clown, Hoyte.

  2. Ill be honest and say I felt quite sad yesterday seeing Southgate turn up at Rockcliffe to collect his things. The guy has given 8 years service to our club and was the first Boro Captain to pick up a major trophy but at the moment he is mainly remembered for his failings as a manager.

Do I think it was the right decision by Gibson? too right but then he should never have been given the job in the first place.

May be Southgates time being a manager at Boro has left a bad taste in his mouth and he decides management is not for him.Or may be he will walk into the Crystal Palace job when Warnock leaves.Good luck to him in whatever he does.

Its a new chapter for Middlesbrough FC, New manager and may be some new investment which might mean a new direction for the club influenced by additional members to our board.

I agree with those sentiments, entirely.

I would add only that I think that BoroLegend's accusation of cowardice by Steve Gibson is nonsense. Gibbo's recent actions are all in accordance with what he said in his radio interview about how and when he would review the manager's position. He then proceeded to do what he promised, regardless of whether BL is right about new investors coming in.

  3. Before that, Wikipedia had an East European nonentity electing to join Chelsea after Boro had him on trial but not liking what they saw.

Don't trust anything you read on Wikipedia because anyone can update almost anything on there. They can publish a load of old *** either because they are genuinely mistaken or because they just fancy winding people up. Either way, don't use it to settle any bets.

  4. :D:D:D

Hey Buggsy its that pack of 3 that are in 7.8.9th spot that are causing me concern they keep pushing them buggers in front of them up my arris and...

That's the way, Sarge. Always use protection. :D

Don't be in too much of a rush to get Gerrard back in your squad. His groin problem returned last night. :(

  5. After Steve Gibson's radio Q&A session, I was left with the impression that October would be when he would be reviewing the manager's position. The three home matches prior to the Derby game must have clinched it for him, just as it did for a large section of Boro's supporters and I suspect thatGareth Southgate must already have been on borrowed time, even before Tuesday's kick-off.

I think that the summer's tightly-drawn purse-strings were Gibson's way of ensuring that he could

either reward Southgate with a better budget in January

or promise his replacement some transfer funds.

The worst case scenario for Gibson and the club would have been for Southgate to spend the season's budget in the summer and then continue floundering in the way that he has. If I'm right, I think we'll see the new manager spending a few bob, come January.

  6. Ah but I didn't actually make any changes to my squad, Sarge, other than swapping captains. :)

I agree with you about Bent being on fire at present and I'm glad I recruited him as part of my re-shuffle following Arshavin's return from injury.

It looks like it's going to be a low-scoring week, with so many stars missing (in both senses) and only one clean sheet from the 8 matches played so far. Still, that could all change this afternoon for the Rodellaga, Adebayor and Ireland fans. Has anyone got Bellamy in the squad? :dodgy:

  8. I'm listening on Radio Tees and what I'm hearing is not support. The match has gone pear-shaped as far as we are concerned and I have no faith at all in Gareth Southgate's ability to turn it around.

Let's face it, we have a better squad so why the hell are we struggling? That question can be addressed to only one man: Gareth Southgate.

  9. Well, there goes the first equaliser of the weekend and I can't lose on the match, now!

(If you want to know why: I got 5/4 laid on Chelsea before kick-off, then 100/30 laid on after they scored and I backed them at almost even money after Aston Villa equalised. I really love equalisers!)

The vibes are good for Wells Lyrical in the Cesarawitch (3:40 at Newmarket). Don't plunge but expect a decent run for your money.

What I want now is for someone to go ahead at Villa Park and then for the other side to equalise again but maybe I'm being greedy? :D

Woot-woot! Villa have gone ahead! Come on Chelsea!

  10. Although I'm not affected by the injured list, I was tempted to make some big changes this week, like recruiting a midfield of 2 ***nal and 2 Liverpool players (Arshavin, Fab, Benayoun and Kuyt).

However, I'm trying to keep my transfers to less than 1 per match week and I have already made 7 changes so I resisted temptation and settled for relieving Lampard of the captaincy, in favour of Arshavin.

I'm looking forward to a pretty hectic afternoon, listening to Boro and watching the Sunderland match and Chan 4 horseracing. Oh, yeah, I nearly forgot the important bit - keeping abreast of events at Betfair! Here's hoping for another bundle of equalisers! :)

  11. So much depends on atmosphere, since it clearly has a big effect on our young squad.

I think we'll have an early indication of how things will pan out this afternoon when Johnson is introduced. If he gets a warmer reception from the Watford fans than he does from Boro supporters then I fear that we could be in trouble right from the start.

  12. It's nearly 7 o'clock and like you, VB, I have just had my first of the day. :D

It hasn't exactly warmed any cockles hereabouts or raised my Riverside expectations and I would be much happier if Boro were playing away today. I suspect that our young team are feeling pretty much the same way right about now, although I hope they haven't been hitting the bottle this early.

I want to see Digard and O'Neil in central midfield today and if Gareth Southgate decides otherwise, I'll start calling him names, too.

My prediction? 2-1 to Boro but only if we dominate central midfield while Watford are kept busy by our wingers. The opposition's Route 1 has to be closed, once and for all!

  13. Some big names have been ruled out of action for the weekend, including Rooney, Torres and Gerrard. They're all likely to miss only one fixture so, if you're going to stick with them this week, bear in mind that changing your team captain costs nothing. You've got until 12:45. Linthorpian2009 please take note.

Hey, Sarge, did you count the equalisers the weekend before the break? There were TEN and I'm set fair for a profitable season, especially now that I'm not losing any money on Boro.

    Go get him, VB! :D

  14. I agree that Emnes doesn't loook like he'll get a lot of goals. Why don't we try him on the right wing, that position he's played most of his career so far and one of our problem positions? Maybe its bit too obvious for our management team.

Sigh. After Tuncay and Alves were played as lone strikers (or rarely - although occasionally - paired) while Mido warmed the bench and Wheater floundered at RB and Downing was called upon to play at LB, why the hell should an upstart like Emnes play in his proper position? It doesn't make any sense at all, especially when you realise that Arca has to start somewhere, which means that O'Neil gets Emnes' obvious slot and Digard has to play RB so that Hoyte can bugger about! It's tuff being a manager and don't you forget it.

  15. I contend that early season results have a tendency to flatter a league's newcomers. We have seen it again and again in the Prem and, a classic example, Hull are still there only because it took so long for established EPL managers to figure out how to slaughter them. The same applied to Reading and WBA and I'm sure that Burnley are currently riding high only until such time as they get sussed out.

Reading, if you remember, came back from a 2-0 deficit in their first ever EPL match to beat Boro 2-3 and then went on to secure their place in the top flight with a string of impressive early season results. It didn't last, though, and they are now a***st the CCCL's relegation prospects.

Since then, we have lost three times to former - now demoted - EPL new boys WBA, while Manure and Everton have both lost to EPL newcomers Burnley who went on to lose at home to their familiar adversaries, Brum. Go figure!

It's all very confusing but I have made plans for a betting coup or two for next year and we don't even have any idea, yet, of who is going up or down, or even if I'll live that long. I've got plans, though...

Anyway, we, along with WBA and NUFC are the new boys in the CCCL and we are starting to suffer reversals as the rest of the league get to grips with how we play. The ideal, of course, would be for our management team to be ahead of the game and sending out our young team fully prepared for what they are likely to encounter.

    Yeah, right, the ideal... :(

    Bloody hell, that was garbled!

All I wanted to propose was that a league's newcomers (regardless of whether it's by demotion or promotion) have an early season advantage, at least until opposing managers catch up on the newcomer's players and playing style.

  16. If I were in Boro's squad... I don't think I would relish playing at the Riverside in front of a 50% capacity crowd who might boo me and my team-mates off the pitch if we fail to meet their expectations. I think I might prefer to play away from home and have a thousand or two travelling fans who I know will make allowances if I have an off-day and who will be supportive of the team's efforts, come hell or high water.

If I were in Boro's squad... I might know a bit better what to make of Gareth Southgate. Essentially, has he got my/the team's respect?

If I were in Boro's squad... I'm sure that the two factors that I have already outlined would have the most effect on my performances on the pitch.

However, I am not in Boro's squad and the only aspect of the foregoing that I can affect directly is how I support the team when they're at home. I won't ever boo them.
