  1. How interesting that the debate over whether or not Fry should be in the team has now ended. He has made that spot his own and has at times outshone Gibson, how lucky we are to have two home grown centre halves of this standard. I am with everyone else really on the team selection front, the defence as is, Howson to partner Clayton in a two man midfield and Traore to come back in. My only niggling worry at the moment is, how are we going to keep our large squad of players satisfied and motivated, especially with Braithwaite due back soon, nice problem to have granted, but players not getting
  2. Nine games into the season here are 10 reasons to be optimistic; 1/ We have a manager who runs a meritocracy, is prepared to vary his tactics and seems to have built a strong squad of players all willing to play for each other. The bad feeling and disputes seem to be a thing of the past. 2/ Going a goal down is no longer a death knell for the result, there are goals in this team from many different directions. 3/ This team is still coming together as a unit and we can expect so much more as the season progresses. 4/ We have conceded 6 goals in 9 games, so the defence appears to be sorted.
  3. Let us all be thankfull we folloe The Boro and not Sunderland, they are 1_0 down at home, what a shambles they are.
  4. It is nice to see that Monk has finally bowed to the pressure and picked the team that I would have chosen, just wish he had listened to me earlier we might have had a few more points on the board. Seriously though, I am knackered now, if this team does not perform today then I have no one to blame, woops !
  5. Based on what I saw at Villa Park the other night, Dan1234,s team is the one for me, Howson looked to have the energy that Leadbitter lacks and Bamford even on the right offers far more than Downing. I will go for a 2-2 draw.
  6. Thank for this report and I had wondered how GF would be in this game. Sadly quite alarmed by what you have mentioned because it seems as if he is no longer reliable as he used to be. Is there more than meets the eye going on with George? You would have expected a steady performance from George and a chance to prove himself again, can't fathom it out tbh  [/q Friend looks like a full back who is not sure what his role is in the team, is the manager asking him to stay back and defend or to bomb forward and create width. Last night he managed to achieve neither, sort of getting ca
  7. If Monk does indeed see Bamford as the 'stand in' for Assombalonga, where does that leave Gestede, three into one does not go, so perhaps the plan is to let one leave in Jan. Personally I would play Bamford behind Assombalonga and build the rest of the team around them and Traore. A mention for Howson from last night, much more like the player who I admired at Norwich, he controlled the centre midfield all night long.
  8. Well decided to go in the end and it was a strange atmosphere with only 11k in Villa Park, like a reserve team match in many ways. The right result and we deserved it our Boro second team is better than their second team. A mention for Tavernier and Wing, the future of our club is bright with players like these coming through, they will be pushing for first team selection very soon. Bamford is just a class act at this level, Monk just has to find a way to fit him in somewhere. Glad we are in the next round, we have a big squad and need these extra games to keep everyone playing.
  9. I hate to see these mass rotations of players for cup games, it invariably misfires and upsets the momentum of the club. By all means rest one or two but we are still trying to find our best formation so use this game to that end and go out to win the match. If I am going into Brum and pay to see my team then I want to know that we are serious about winning, if not what is the point we may as well just play the whole of the U23 side.
  10. I also agree that playing Leadbitter and Clayton in the same team limits us going fotward, they just resort to the no mistakes no adventure style of play dictated by the previous management.
  11. Jeez that was nail biting and I was just watching this forum and the telly. I see "Arry" is up to his old tricks, spend a fortune and Birmingham have lost six on the bounce, good decision that Jota lol.
  12. This has to be the end of Bamfords career at the club, if he has any sense he will pack his bags.
  13. It will never happen, Bamford ran over Monks dog and Downing has some very compromising pictures of Monk with the two blondes, (allegedly of course for legal reasons).
  14. Right it worked with Assombalonga let me try it in reverse. Downing is fast decisive and a real threat in front of goal, there that should guarantee his substitution lol
  15. Ha ha, let's try it, Assombalonga is the pits boo HAHA *** off no way Can u believe that ???
  16. I don't think the Friend/Fabio swap would make a difference. I would make the Downing swap because he's been gash though. So what is new! I can only think that by playing him it will make it easier to get rid of his wages by selling him in Jan.
  17. According to my brother, who is at the match, Monk needs to admit his tactics did not work and make changes for the second half, Friend on for Fabio, Downing off (for anybody but hopefully Bamford), and Howson for Leadbitter to try and push us further up the field.Cannot see the match so is that a fair assessment?
  18. I think it must be my glasses Tom, I watched Downing at Villa and he offered absolutely nothing, not even a willingness to fight for the cause when we went a man down, in fact it was like playing with 9 men. He is slow, drifts aimlessly out of position, very rarely plays an accurate forward pass and at times just seems to coast along. So a genuine question, what are you seeing that I am not that he is contributing to our team? i thought the same after watching the game. he has proved for a long time he doesnt not have any fight in him, hes a shrinking violet. such a shame as his actual ab

  20. Great effort Teacider. On the team front we all seem, (so far anyway), to be in agreement, the defence picks itself, Leadbitter looked tired last night and may need to sit this one out for Howson, whilst Bamford must surely replace Traore. On the left Downing was anonymous last night and Johnson just has so much more energy and it seems commitment. We are getting to the point where some of our team are now an automatic on the team sheet, Randolph, Christie, Gibson, Fry, Clayton and Assombolonga, that is five places where Monk still needs to decide, hopefully Baker will join that band shortly a
  21. Just got back from the Villa, a great backs to the wall point, this side under Monk has got a real backbone. I dunno if Traore desrerved to go or not, I could not tell at the time, only that it was at best a rash challenge. We rode our luck at times, but always competed, apart from Downing who looked well out of it, surely his time is now up. Special mention for Gibson and Fry, they were immense along with Clayton covering them. Villa looked mediocre at best, my bet is on Bruce going soon. This team is getting closer to gelling and when we do our win ratio will improve dramatically, very cofid
  22. Jeez these matchday threads are reaching new heights, well done BU. We should be comfortable against Bolton so let us play with one defensive midfielder and Howson and baker pressing forward. As to the forwards that is anyones guess, oh and I think it is time for George to sit on the bench, he is just not cutting it.
  23. I'm not far from Kiddie. Went to see their Football League debut back in 2000 when they beat Torquay United. Nice little old-school stadium Aggborough. II was there for that as well and their Wembley appearance, it does you good to watch lower league football it gives you a sense of perspective
  24. It has just been pointed out to me that Marvin Johnson is one and the same as the player I watched at Kidderminster Harriers three or four years ago,(I live just up the road). He was always fast but the end product was never consistent, and I never thought he was destined for higher things at the time. He must have improved a lot since he left my radar, he was also a difficult character to manage by all accounts.Good luck to him though
