  1. Spain beating Croatia 1-0 at the moment. Do we want a Spain win? (I'd say we do now, given that we've already lost to them, and it's only a group of three).
  2. So England are in Division A (top), Group 4, along with Croatia and Spain. (Toughest group IMO). Fixtures: England v Spain (Sat 8th Sept, 19:45). Croatia v England (Fri 12th Oct, 19;45). Spain v England (Mon 15th Oct, 19:45). England v Croatia (Sun 18th Nov, 14:00). So the bottom team from the four groups A1, A2, A3, A4 all get relegated to Division B for the next iteration of the competition, which is in 2020 apparently. (Presumably at the end of the year). Seems pretty harsh that a quarter of the teams in the top division get relegated! How it works: https://www.uefa.com/uefa
  3. Nah.... it's definitely because he loves the Boro! ;-)
  4. Did you leave this thread open because my incredible joke satisfied you so much? I think you're doing your joke a disservice mate.
  5. Me, I placed a bet on relegation, though did follow it up with an actual prediction of mid table mediocrity. Fair play tudders. Do you still think mid table mediocrity or has our good start given you any optimism for better than that? We have had a much better start than I expected (apart from the opening 70 minutes - I hate to think where we would be now had wing not made such an impact as a sub that game). Fair play to TP for continuing with a system that works. I fear if we try to revert back to 4-3-3/4-5-1. I still think we will hit a really poor patch where our lack or creati
  6. Good info Essuuaitch, but I'm still not clear. I'll read it through again. It SEEMED to be saying that the final Euro 2020 qualifying spots were going to come from the four division winners in the UEFA Nations League? How can a division D team qualify... when they're basically garbage?? Edit: OK, I just re read it. It's the 16 group winners from the 4 divisions. (A1, A2, A3, A4, B1, B2 etc)... They then play off for the last four places, so in all likelihood they'll come from A & B divisions.
  7. I'm quite liking the sound of this UEFA Nations League thing. England seem to be in the toughest group (A4), along with Spain and Croatia. How it works: https://www.uefa.com/uefanationsleague/video/videoid=2568500.html (Video explanation, with sound..... in case you're watching at work)!! https://www.uefa.com/uefanationsleague/news/newsid=2079553.html?iv=true (written explanation). Fixtures: England v Spain (Sat 8th Sept, 19:45). Croatia v England (Fri 12th Oct, 19;45). Spain v England (Mon 15th Oct, 19:45). England v Croatia (Sun 18th Nov, 14:00). The bottom team from the
  8. On the subject of Jed Wallace... Apparently he wasn't interested in moving to Boro, because he didn't want to come up north. Seems strange that we'd bid for someone, and not know that?? Seems like we're not in to the whole tapping up that most teams do, seems like do everything above board and get a bid accepted first before we chat to a player. That's my theory as to why so many deals take so long and subsequently fall through on personal terms... Or maybe our bid for Wallace was a bit out of the blue and it was the first he heard about it. I think you're probably right BD. Aft

  10. Good stat Billy. On a different note... Is there a Championship highlights show anymore (like used to be on Channel 5)?
  11. Yeah, I was about to ask if something is up with Gibbo? Second game in a row where he hasn't even made the bench I think. To be fair he couldn’t be on the bench for their Europa game as he was suspended. :D OK, well at least it explains that one! Thanks.

  13. On a transfer note.... I see that Bolasie wasn't even in the Villa squad yesterday, to enjoy their 4-1 humping by Sheff Utd. Apparently he's out injured. I wonder if we dodged a bullet there, and I wonder if Villa signed a lemon. Hopefully.
  14. In answer to your questions... I think the transfer thread was derailed about the right amount of times. It's inevitable during the long summer months, with little transfer activity going on that there are going to be derailments. Always interesting when people get overly annoyed about it. When good rumours crop up, it's always quickly back on track. Probably about the right amount of arguing, but maybe a BIT more could have spiced it up a bit. I think the ITKers are a bit less ITK than they used to be. Not really anyone's fault, but I kind of get that impression. The transfer thre
  15. I was disappointed with the lack of conspiracy theories this year. We didn't even see a return of the old favourite where we're signing an underwhelming player 'as a favour' to a club or agent in order to get a world beater from them down the line. My favourite bit was when we had a rocky first week in August with the Millwall draw and the passing of the permanent deadline, and someone predicted relegation. Didn't that happen right at the end with Batth (or whatever his name is). I'm sure someone mentioned Wolves 'looking after us' because we signed him?
  16. ...and probably because they've started strong. They may well fade, but perhaps they have a new manager who has galvanised them. Who do you think the team to beat this season are? On the transfer thread some people have said that they don't expect us to finish top half... or they expect us to drop out of the play-off places by Christmas (possibly because they don't like Tony Pulis, more than real logic). Obviously those things COULD happen, but I don't know which teams/squads those people are seeing at other clubs, that makes them think that we can't compete. I think we're in good sha
  17. It's because as of this far they've cruised through their games average 2.8 goals a game and tore apart Stoke and Derby. So they've had a couple of good results then and that's it? Not so much because of the ability of their squad, more the style of play being adopted? Well yeah. On the evidence of this season so far, Leeds are the best team in the division. They've scored the most goals and have the most points. Not to mention comfortable wins against Stoke and Derby, who were fancied before the season started. It's a small sample size, admittedly, but it's the only one we have for
  18. Wise words Billy. I'm not sure, but I THINK the Robson-Kanu rumour was 'leaked' by our recruitment team, to try and trick Villa in to signing him. That would have been glorious! (Clearly HRK is a TOTAL donkey. I can't think why else we were 'linked' with him)!!
  19. I watched the same game as you two. I thought we played well. Sort of confirms your extreme bias against karanka. That was as karanka a performance we have seen since he left and his football was terrible whereas this football is Good? Zzzz. I didn't mention Karanka, and I don't want to get drawn in to a Karanka debate. However, yes, the football that Karanka served up was so dire towards the end, that Pulis has a LONG way to go before his gets as bad. (And we've probably come back from behind more times this season (league & cup) than we did in Karanka's entire tenure)! Wh
  20. Just watched that post-match video. I imagine that's Puncheon and Adomah who we missed out on. Pretty much confirms that the reason Batth is here is because of playing 3 at the back. Is it just me or did he also say something along the lines of Wolves saying they'd look after us in terms of that signing which I thought was a bit strange given that as far as we know, we didn't do them any favours, we forced them to pay the full whack for Adama. Unless we actually didn't and we did them a favour with it somewhere along the line? Surely given how long it was drawn out for (in my eyes anyway) t
  21. Agree, thought we did very well. Not many sides will limit them to basically 0 chances this year. I watched the same game as you two. I thought we played well.
