Apparently we have not beaten Blackburn at home in our last 8 attempts. Drawn 6 and lost 2. Hopefully that changes tomorrow..

I know we have an awful record against them at home but maybe the Mowbray factor can be taken out of the equation.

However not winning today will not surprise me in any way shape or form.

Need to decide what beverage to partake during the match

I'd really like us to sign Greenwood on a permanent deal if his wages are reasonable and the £1.5 million fee is accurate. Prior to joining us he hadn't started a senior match and was playing as a striker in youth football up until about the past 2 or 3 years, so the transition to senior football as a LW/#10 was always going to be a difficult one for him. Our inconsistent, unbalanced and tactically naive team won't have helped him perform either as all our attackers have gone through difficult spells this season. He started well with some massive goals but things undoubtedly tailed off, and our injury crisis and lack of better options meant he had to be kept playing despite him struggling. So his performances need to be viewed with a degree of understanding.

His mentality is great with his impressive work rate, aggression and determination so there's a solid base to develop a young player from. He has brilliant natural technique striking a ball, which is in very short supply in the Championship. At the moment, in the creative areas he often needs two touches to get the ball under control and doesn't have a clear vision of where his teammates are so even when he then gets the ball under control, he then needs time to think what to do - which really disrupts his ability to break the lines and let moves flow through him. When he learns to scan before receiving the ball and refines his first touch to get past his marker, his level will dramatically improve and he'll look far less clunky on the ball. Rogers similarly struggled with that during his early period here before things clicked for him in November/December time and he looked a transformed player - so that defect can certainly be improved. Greenwood just needs more time to learn the role to fulfil his potential.

As you know I usually laud your contributions with your thoughtful and considered posts.

On this occassion all I can say is "Are you out of your mind"?😁

From what I have seen apart from a few flashes from him Greenwood is the most invisible player on the pitch and his work ethic is miles apart from his team mates.

Is there a player in there somewhere, I suppose so as he became a professional player but I have not seen any improvement thus far and like many others on the forum I often forget he is on the pitch at all!

    Sorry @p_mards

Agreed. It's baffling the amount of completely irrelevant posts about who we should get as our next manager. gibbo has been very patient in the past and we desperately need to stop the knee-jerk reactionism if we are to get anywhere. Carrick seems fully aligned with the ethos as well, so took losing Morgan Rogers - who he improved - in his stride. Very happy the powers that be aren't flinching despite the caterwauling that accompanies every downturn in form.

It is within our rights as Boro supporters to moan😁

What a massive win that thankfully keeps our season alive. Our formation worked well yet again as we controlled the central areas incredibly well and looked comfortable sat into our incredibly effective low block. The current tactics and defensive mentality takes me back to the days of Karanka as we look a nightmare to break down. The quality of the game was obviously poor but we held our shape and had the moment of high quality in attack from McGree. It was clear that a few players standards had dropped after the tight turnaround of Wednesday, Saturday & Tuesday, with the latter two being long away days, so some of the less impressive performances like O'Brien need to be viewed in that context. The current style of play isn't attractive but it sure brings the best out of our team, especially from the likes of Ayling, Berg, McNair & Clarke. Considering our defensive performances under Carrick I can't believe that we've managed to keep back-to-back clean sheets. Hopefully we can now make the most of the break to recharge the batteries for Saturday as the starting 11 have played a lot of minutes in a short space of time.

While the current style of play and tactics isn't Carrick's first choice, I'd like to think that he's learnt a lot about the effectiveness of holding more of a solid structure behind the ball - certainly when injuries bite and the team isn't able to dominate possession as preferred. Hopefully it helps takes the edge off the bipolar nature of our form under him. At the moment we're akin to a team like Coventry City with the way we have a solid structure behind the ball but can counter-attack and grind out scrappy wins - seemingly in a consistent manner. If we can somehow scrape into the play-offs and get promoted then we'll look back at Howson's experienced reaction to Norwich's Sainz stray boot and view it as a massive sliding doors moment.

Keep saying this I do appreciate your thoughtful and considered posts.

  5. Good result but hard on the eye but not putting to bed by scoring more than one goal often results in a bite on the ass!

Had Brum levelled in injury time we would have been aghast about that but really we did not look like we would score again once subs were made and that in itself is a real area needed to improve.

Anyway a win is a win so enjoy watching Cor blimey O'Rileys goal once again

Positives first.. 3 points, 3 wins on the bounce, back within 5 points of play offs. Battling performance, wing backs played well, great moment of quality from mcgree. 30mins spell in the first half where we passed the ball around well and caused them difficulties.

But... that result was 100% on Birminghams lack of quality, not anything we've done. Really disappointing second half.

Personally don't think this formation and style of play is sustainable for a play off push.

Agreed but you have your game in hand which eded in the right result
