He's nearly 27 and failed everywhere he's been. Not one impressive season anywhere. Why think it's going to be different?

Sorry for wanting to give one of our three strikers a chance mate. Let’s slag  him off instead should we?

in your opinion he’s failed everywhere, the fact he’s still a professional playing at this level  says otherwise.

But he’s only just started training with the first team again hasn’t he? I don’t think he went to Portugal and there was talk of him being asked to train alone while he sorted a move out.

Sorry mate I’m not trying to hassle you personally but just on this subject I think it’s a bad thing Wilder did making him train apart. I don’t think that is a good reason to say you don’t want him. Let’s give him a chance.

I’m not talking about tomorrow, I’m talking about once the window shuts. And as for playing under a new manager in a new system, a strikers job is ultimately finding the the onion bag. He didn’t do that in his first season. He fluffed a load of chances and that isn’t down to the system, that’s down to ability.

Because no striker has ever failed somewhere and succeeded elsewhere?

    Fess up time I guess

At one point it bothered me a lot when banned members came back on and started posting again.

But I realise just how easy it is for them to do so due to vpn's making it easy to have so many email addresses. I do check the validity of new members and certainly do not allow everyone to sign up for the forum but the weight of opportunities is so overwhelming I said to myself "Alan don't worry or give a rats ass about it"

There is a familiar feel which soon exposes previous banned members and the forum is quick to identify that.

My philosophy is that certain individuals are so desperate to be a forum member and be part of oneBoro  but they simply spoil their chances within their contributions, guys I suggest that you reign it in somewhat and allow yourselves to be good forum contributors.

Also we always have a massive influx of new members during the transfer window stage but as often the case many will fall away once over.

So apologies to all for my attitude but just ignore certain folks until their input deserves another ban and that we can prove it to be the case and then we simply wait until they surface again in a new guise.

Pleased to see "Magooder" once again.

It ain't easy I have to say

I also thought most people felt the most recent Juninho incarnation was somewhat unfairly bullied off the forum yet some posters are screaming that he’s back as crackers and should be banned again. This place has been like a lunatic asylum the last week or so.

I’ll be hugely disappointed if Akpom ends up staying and being considered amongst our core group of strikers this season. There’s been some serious revisionism going on with regards to his first season. It wasn’t just that he was unlucky playing in Warnock’s crap system, I distinctly remember him missing several golden chances.

We’ve already got one forward on the books in Watmore who huffs and puffs but isn’t clinical enough, we can’t afford another and frankly we need to be aiming higher if we actually want to get out of this division.

How about we see if he does well under a new manager and system before writing him off? Who exactly do you want playing tomorrow if our only two senior strikers aren’t good enough for you?

I doubt anyone would half their wage. But at the same time we don't know Armstrong's position. He wanted to leave and come here on loan. He clearly wants to play regular football again. And willing to drop a division. Money isn't everything to everyone. He could be unhappy down south and want to move back north to. If we are the only northern club interested in him. If it's a family thing taking the pay cut for a season with the potential for pay rise on promotion with us, he might feel is a worthy risk to get what he wants.

I like your optimism and I hope you turn out to be right!

maybe, he is a multi-millionaire, how rich was Downing at the same age?, and will continue to get richer on 25-30k, so would he care if he takes a drop in earnings for 1 season (hopefully)?

But that’s it isn’t it, there’s no guarantee it’s for one year. I don’t see any scenario where he agrees to a 50% pay cut and to drop a division at the same time. We just lost Tav because people agreed him massively increasing his wages and playing at a higher level is too appealing.

Don’t get me wrong I’d love him, I just can’t see it being a permanent deal, only a loan or loan with some clauses that may make it permanent if we go up.

Watmore wouldn't shock me too much - hes all effort, little substance. And his effort only lasts for 2/3rds of the match max.

If we lose 2 starting strikers to injury and were down to watmore for an extended period of time were in trouble and wilder probably knows that. It's the same as bamba last season - obviously a useful squad player but when he becomes the only choice to start, hes a liability.

Watmore is a liability if he plays regularly? Wow that is very harsh.  He did pretty well in the first half of last season playing pretty regularly.

Here we go again, People misinterpreting.

I have said if he signs I will support him in the shirt

I have said if he were 3rd or 4th striker fine and I expected a better starting striker with a proven championship record

I have listed potentially realistic targets who i prefer and why in response to several posters comments, am I not supposed to answer them? Sorry my replying to folk offends you, I didn’t realise I needed your permission, apologies.

Here we go again. Not answering the only question I asked you. Who are all these people getting really excited about him?

Yes you are right in one sense, but they have not been deemed not good enough, they are still on their books and so must have belief in their ability still, I have said they come with risk too. I just think their (Muniz and Archer) stats v game time v goals against championship sides (or above) is better. Equally I have no idea if they are affordable and willing to sign so it could be a moot point, but if Forss is to be who we rely on as a starter, I have not seen one good argument to justify the excitement given to him by some for him to be delivering the goals needed for promotion. I accept he may provide the goals, but the stats so far don’t back that up for me thats all, I expected better than him after the end of season comments, as a third or fourth striker I have no issue, but I doubt the club will see him as that, he will be given every chance by me as a supporter when on the pitch if indeed he signs as expected.

Who are all these people who are really excited by him? From what I’ve read it seems most people are waiting to see and seem ok with it except you, who posts every 5 minutes about how he’s nowhere near good enough.

  11. I haven’t seen Forss play so don’t have an opinion on him specifically yet.

My worry is he’s going to be another flop, but this isn’t based on anything concrete its just based on the fact we have generally got it wrong up front for years bar a few exceptions.  But on the positive side Brentford fans seem to like him and his goals per minute ratio in the championship wasn’t bad, especially for his age.

So I’m going to go for being hopeful he is a good signing.

  12. Or they could give you credit for the season after if you’ve paid early at a higher price than it ends up being.

But in that case to avoid encouraging people to delay they’d probably need to offer an increased credit. All sounds too complicated.

Not turning on Tav he is a decent player but he is nowhere near a £15 million player, I would say he is closer to half that an £8million midfielder. It might be the value we have on him but I can’t see anyone paying more than 10 unless they are mental. There are far better championship midfielders available for £15m

Who are these far better championship players available for £15m?

Smith has gone to right-sided centre-back, Paddy in the centre and Lenihan out to the left

Seems odd to do that. So was Lenihan playing central and Fry left?

Bit of a statement to be two weeks away from the season starting with just young Coburn up front by himself - puts a lot of pressure on the hierarchy to sort it out.

Yeah I’m wondering if that’s why he’s done it.

and an even more important question. Who is playing LCB?

  16. Strange to not pick Watmore or Kavanagh upfront given how rigid he usually is with his formation. Anyone heard if one of the midfielders is playing upfront or it it’s a different formation?

  17. There’s no way Cooper’a second spell can be described as a mistake, he was with us for a long time in the Premier League and was always very reliable.

pallister was however clearly finished, he turned like a bus in his second stint.

some people come back and are bad, some are good, there is no hard and fast rule.  Juninho came back twice, were they mistakes?
