  1. I don't think it's as simple as that. The wage bill was pretty high when he took over. Just look at the squad he inherited for an example of why this was the case. It was only manageable because we were still getting parachute payments. O'Neil was on a fortune, Arca, Aliadiere, Hoyte, Wheater, Lita, Pogatez, Riggot, Digard were all on decent money. McDonald was on big money for the Championship and Boyd was on decent money but Boyd was only here for a year and then he left so he could hardly have crippled us. He was just crap for a season and then *** off thankfully. Robson was a dece
  2. Its well known Mowbray reduced the wage bill, McDonald at one point actually admitted it didn't make financial sense to leave Boro £35 k a week unbelievable. Strachan brought in a load of bravehearts who were anything but. Bennett was sent out on loan and at one stage looked like he might be signing for Hartlepool or Darlo, Mowbray brought Bennett back played him and sold him for £3mill and replaced him with Friend. Wee sarcastic Gordon Strachan was a total disaster at this club, wasted any money we had left by buying sub standard Scottish players, absolute clown of a manager wish him no lu
  3. Spot on £35 mill turned down for Deeney after one decent PL season, create the chances and Rhodes will put them away.
  4. Here's another stat, Rhodes actually scored 17 in a season 11 playing for a very poor Blackburn side so that's as many as Nugent's and Stuani's added together playing for a promotion chasing side. 185 goals in 350 odd games the stats don't lie he's a goalscorer.
  5. Danny Murphy said of Rhodes, not the fastest not the most skilful but what a finisher with either foot, this coming from someone who played in the same side as Rhodes, you don't score 185 goals in 354 games if you aren't a natural finisher. Played 18 games for us scored 6 and was 3 behind our top scorer.
  6. To sell a natural finisher like Rhodes without giving him a chance in the PL would be madness, yes all Rhodes goals have come in the championship but 185 in 350 odd games is prolific and at 26 he's in his prime. Bad business from Boro if we get rid could come back to bite us.
  7. Like CT said Stuani went off the boil after Christmas, scored against Wednesday on 28th December, next goal after that Brighton 7th May. There were times when you had to look to make sure Stuani was still on the field he was that ineffective. Its not about liking or disliking a player its about saying it like it is.

Is Guzan a PL standard player because Villa fans seemed happy enough he'd gone. Playing in the PL doesn't mean your PL standard. Guzan's a Boro player so I'll support him, hope I'm wrong but not one of our better signings in my opinion.

    Agreed on all accounts.
  10. It's not just you but why do people not seem to rate Stuani? He was our top scorer last season, chipped in with some very important goals and got a brace over the weekend. He's contributed more to the cause since he's been here than most other signings. Stuan's a good player, but wasted when played wide right, Stuani gets the ball and drifts inside it tells you everything, the majority of Stuani's goals come in the 6 yard box that's where he's a threat, handful in the box.

Its just your opinion Dimi wouldn't have got down to the shot Guzan saved, we'll never know will we.
  12. Downing's was average against Stoke, didn't do much wrong yesterday, but fantastic, come on that's definitely an exaggeration.

If Valdes picked up a long term injury I wouldn't be confident having Guzan as he's replacement, regardless of whether Dim was here or not

He managed to make the save of the season away at Leeds down to his left.
  15. I think people are just saying what they were watching which was a superb 1st half performance, and a 2nd half were the defence was excellent and some of our midfield went missing inviting pressure and putting our defence under the cosh All in all its 4pts in 2 games so a good start.
  16. I think its madness if we get rid of Rhodes before he has a chance in the PL, every one who talks about him and has played with him says he's a finisher, so I'm hoping its BS and not one of another Karanka's fall outs.
  17. Always great to beat the Mackems, Barragan, Forshaw excellent and if you score 2 goals you've done the business so well done Stuani. I thought Adomah was awful, but don't like him on the left and feel he has always been more effective on the right as he was in the championship. Guzan great save then gifted them a goal not convinced with him at the moment. Poor 2nd half, defended far too deeply, do that against the better sides and we'll pay the price, taking a player with Ramirez talent off when under the cosh was a mistake, he has the skill and creativity to relieve the pressure.
  18. With the Benteke signing Palace have spent close to £50 mill on 3 players.
  19. Moyes first league home game, Sunderland will be up for it, going for 1-1 Ramirez and a Defoe equaliser.
  20. But that's just your own situation. Do you think the majority of Middlesbrough, Sunderland and Newcastle fans live and work outside the area? Of course they don't. My feeling stems from countless visits to both Roker and the Stadium of Light. I've had trouble every time I've been there and I have a lot of resent that stems from that. I know plenty of Mackems and there's plenty of banter to be had from that. I live in Leeds and it's similar there for me too. Sunderland fans will tell you otherwise but I've had seats in the Boro end that are right next to the Sunderland fans and if that's how
  21. Pienaar is past his best, looked good a few years ago, wouldn't be happy with lack of transfer activity if I was a Sunderland supporter, making Burnley look like big spenders.
  22. Playing the waiting game may be the right thing to do we'll have our targets, players desperate to move and clubs desperate to sell will realise they've only got a couple of weeks to get business done.
  23. Sunderland fans think Negredo's past it, its called hope and fear they hope he's past it because they fear him if he isn't.
  24. An apology has been made, and I don't think the comment was made to offend anyone it was just said in jest nothing malicious about it, like KM said lets move on.
  25. Palace agree £27 mill for Benteke plus add-ons, good signing think he'll score goals for them, will have a point to prove.
