  1. Hope there's nothing in the Burnley thing. £8 million is well low and while we can't compete with them for PL football, we can with their wage cap. Let's stay calm lads. Got to admit it's got me a bit nervous though, and I didn't need any more reasons to hate Burnley...
  2. Not in the Championship. In the Championship, Ramirez promoted us.
  3. £5 million? Behave. Notice the "could be worth" - basically meaning a) Graeme Bailey doesn't know ***, and b) the £5 million would include add-on clauses in the event of promotion and so on.
  4. This sounds more and more like agent talk trying to push through the Villa deal. That said, a GK roster of Johnstone, Ripley and Dimi would do us very well for the Championship I'd say.
  5. Shame that. I find it a little hard to believe we couldn't have competed with Cardiff in terms of wages and opportunity for promotion. But he's been there a long time, perhaps he's just settled. As for Rob Green, didn't he play pretty well last season by all accounts? Wouldn't be my first choice, but wouldn't totally mind as I want Ripley to have the no. 1 jersey anyway.
  6. Is anyone else becoming a bit concerned about the sheer number of changes we're going to have to make this summer? I don't necessarily have any problem with our outgoings (even Gibson, he deserves to be playing international football), but it feels like we're relying heavily on a huge number of incomings gelling with each other and the manager, all in one summer. We need to get some faces through the door early enough for a decent preseason. Easier said than done I know, but clearly we're not just tweaking a PL team to get promoted (like Newcastle last season) - this is a rebuilding job.
  7. It's the bit about looking for a top class creative midfielder which caught my attention. Probably just putting 2 + 2 together but reckon we'll make a marquee creative midfield signing given that it's our weakest position. Yea true, if he does line up 4231 which is his apparent favoured formation then we will need at least 2 creative midfielders tbh, depending on where bamford plays and also what he plans on doing with traore. I think the marquee midfield signing would be Oliver Burke if we can make it happen, Nixon reckons he could become available to loan but will have plenty of opti
  8. I think Ripley deserves his shot at the jersey for sure - I understand that we need competition in case he doesn't cut it but to be honest I don't think the step up from League 1 to the Championship is that big for a keeper. I reckon he would/will do really well. Which is why spending £3 million on a keeper seems a bit steep to me - I feel like Westwood would be fully expecting to be the number 1. I'd rather go for someone like Ruddy - competent, but a bit more used to bench time. Not to mention cheaper.
  9. http://www.gazettelive.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/meeting-between-stewart-downing-garry-13224817 Gazette reckon the Downing story is true - bonus points for Monk from me, Stewy's been a passenger ever since he rejoined us. We're not a retirement home.
  10. Agreed, though I'm aware I rate him a bit more highly than most seem to. Nevertheless I think we need to prioritise properly - assuming Gibson and Baptiste go, we'd be left with Ayala, Espinosa and Fry as our CB options, with Barragan as a wild card. We need to be gaining at least one CB, two if Gibson goes, before we even think about offloading Espinosa.
  11. My two cents on the current squad... Keep: Dimi Fabio* Friend* Ayala† Espinosa† Gibson* (though I think he'll go, and should - he's above us now) Clayton* Fischer† De Roon* (though I think he'll go) Bamford* Gestede† Forshaw† Traore† Ripley* Chapman Fry De Sart† Stay or go: Leadbitter† Barragan† Stuani Guedioura† Mejias Go: Negredo (already gone) Guzan (already gone) Downing (though I think he'll stay) Ramirez Chambers (already gone) Valdes (already gone) Husband Baptiste De Pena * good enough for a first team start now † could be good enough for fir

  13. Interesting to hear his complaints about the new "structure" at Leeds being what put him off... Victor Orta already causing destabilisation and unrest in his new role? :P
  14. I'm inclined to agree, people are overly harsh on Barragan (foul throws aside). I think he will probably leave for Spain nonetheless.
  15. Think it's a good choice of the candidates available. I have no qualms about getting behind Monk - hopefully he can get the hard work underway on Monday. Looking forward to Leeds away next season! :D
  16. On the bright side, now we can go in for Joe Hart. :)
  17. If that is the case, maybe it's better to give Agnew the manager's job, that way, if he fails, he'll have been given a fair chance and be replaced. If he succeeds then brilliant. If we appoint a new man who isn't keen on having Agnew as his number 2, it could cause more trouble than it's worth. It's a very complicated situation. It's been made complicated because Gibson seems determined to keep Agnew. I don't see why he's blameless in the chairman's eyes for what happened last season - and I include before he took over as caretaker.
  18. Yeah it looks like Monk and Clotet are going to part ways, so assuming it's agreeable with Monk, I'm expecting Agnew to remain as assistant.
  19. I cannot imagine what my reaction will be if it's Agnew. I assume it might feel something like how I felt when we lost the playoff final. FWIW I think it'll be Monk.
  20. To be fair Borodane is raising an extremely pertinent point - why would a sponsor (whose reason for sponsoring is the advertisement they receive in return) pick an unfashionable and not widely supported club like Middlesbrough? The sponsors who would pay big money would get very little in return. It's also why we have a sponsor like Ramsdens (as much as I hate them). Teesside is a poor area where pawnshops are likely to get more business as people decide they need to sell their valuable belongings so they can afford the essentials. They get more value out of sponsoring us than they would if
  21. Doesn't really matter how unfashionable you are in the Premier League. Every game is televised all over the world, a league watched by hundreds of millions. Even if our games aren't so popular, our shirts were still in the media a lot - whether it's against the multitude of high-profile teams in the PL, or as part of highlights/compilation shows, interviews and features, hell - even video games. I'm not complaining about Ramsdens in the Championship, but in the PL we could have had anyone. Swansea even had that Hong Kong-based company with Chinese lettering on their shirts... (though it was
  22. Good defender, but he's 32 now... I'd much rather land Manga.
  23. We aren't even a***st the top-50. http://brandfinance.com/images/upload/bf_football_2017_report_final_june_6th.pdf Brand value is not the same as money in the bank. Clearly we don't have a top 50 marketable brand, especially now we're back in the Championship. We got a great deal of money from the TV deal last season though - not many clubs across Europe can match £100 million gross revenue.
