  1. I think it's easier to list the players I'd actually keep (not that I think we'd find buyers for half of the lightweights...) - the backups/subs are in brackets Gk: .... (Ripley) DL: Friend DC: ...... (Fry) DR: Fabio MC: Clayton, De Roon, (Forshaw) AM: Fischer AML : .... AMR: ... FC: Bamford, Negredo - though unlikely Would love to keep Young Gibbo but he's got to look after his career. The rest have done nothing this year/are perma-crocks/have the fight of a wet cloth. There's a lot of work to do Mr Gibson...
  2. One thing this season has confirmed is that I'd rather finish 10th playing attacking football (in the championship) than scrape second playing defensively. football isn't just about winning - there is a lot to be said for being entertaining and if negative successful football means a season like this after last year's unentertaining success, I'd pass...
  3. I think the damage was done the previous season with Karanka falling out with key players. He was backed in the summer - with wages more than transfer fees, but who can blame Gibson for not throwing more good money after bad given the performances. Agnew is probably a decent manager, but there is no way he should continue next season. We need a new broom and to reinvigorate the squad. Will be a tough job...
  4. Beck was excellent, just had a balance problem compounded by random gusts of wind...
  5. Think that's about that. Given the fixtures, the lack of confidence/threat and form of those around us, I can't see any way out of this. Next two are both must win - which means scoring twice (minimum)... apart from the chance at the end we looked about as dangerous as Mary Berry on morphine.
  6. Certainly agree he's not infallible, Karanka probably should have gone earlier too. No one can doubt he acts in the best intentions for the club though. As for the end of seven seasons of work, it's been a disappointing season, but we are in a better position than we were when Karanka joined (for this I am glad) with a good chance of rebounding if we invest in the team - especially if we get 25m plus for Gibbo.
  7. Gibson has a better idea of the qualities of Agnew than we do. If he really believes that Agnew is better than the alternatives it means either 1) Agnew is a decent manager despite the lack of experience (as with Robson/McClaren/Karanka) or 2) the available options are not as good as we'd hope. As some of the names mentioned (Hiddink) are way out of our league and some of the rest appear no better (Pearson/McClaren) or considerably worse (god not dodgy Harry & his dog...) than Agnew, them maybe we should trust Steve Gibson. Green sprouts today, but relegation is odds on with our remaining
  8. Tactically McClaren looks flexible compared to AK, but I do remember a fair bit of two defensive midfielders, keep the score down play. That said, he managed to squeeze extra years out of some excellent strikers - JFH and Viduka, and was always good for a cup run. Would take him over our current manager - that said I'd bring El Tel or Rioch back right now...
  9. Or what I meant to say was - aitor's a tactical genius...
  10. No, but questions have to be asked about the subs. I have no idea what the plan is.
  11. Have been a long time reader, though like Pyro have not felt the need so far to weigh in on the debate. Would be pretty disappointed with no further signings, as I really feel we're not far from a team that should comfortably survive. We do have money from the mega TV deal and a few obvious weak spots (attacking midfield). While Cairney is a decent player, asking him to step up a level and solve our problems seems like a lot and if we are constantly told by the gazette about our new scouting system and links to clubs like athletico, then I don't think it's unreasonable to expect the odd inspir
