Howson definitely, but not the other two.  Barlaser looked fine to me from that point of view, as did Greenwood.  I thought the two of them played what I'd consider to be their normal game.  Barlaser was obviously dropping deep to get the ball, and then trying to get us playing through their press, which was successful at times.  Greenwood was floating around a bit, and doing what he does.  Neither played poorly as such in my opinion. although Barlaser screwed up for the second goal of course, and Greenwood lost the ball a bit too easily at times when it was played into him.

Barlaser was also responsible for the first too, as he didn't stick to his man and let Delap run into space for the free header.

  2. Let's be honest, if Carrick can't see us getting into the premiership anytime soon, then he would be mad not to be looking at these options, especially premiership clubs. I hope he does stay and get us promoted. But I feel that it won't be this season. We have had rotten luck with injuries, and are very short in terms of squad depth and quality. I know things can change quick, especially if we recruit well in January, but that doesn't happen as often as I'd like.

Good post and some well thought out points but much of it is still what ifs and maybes. How do you address the issue of the squad of centre halves we have on our books that are under contract and all relatively well paid at this level?
McNair likely goes leaving us with four centre halves. RVDB is going nowhere as we’ve just signed him. If we rely on your what’s ifs and maybes regarding Clarke, Fry and Lenihan, you believe them all to be injury risks. Who takes them on that basis?
I’ll circle back round to my original point and play the ball that’s in front of me. We have a financial structure that we need to operate within and we can only afford to address the fundamental issues within the squad. Centre half isn’t a fundamental problem in terms of squad dynamic. A right back and a centre forward are and that’s where our money should be spent if we’re going to do so in January. Buying a centre half at the expense of a right back is folly.

How many RBs we been linked to compared to CBs so far?

I agree we should be looking at RB as Dijksteel isn't really improving, and we really need a decent first choice as Smith shouldn't really be our first choice RB either.

We probably would be looking at those forest lads more than likely on a loan capacity, especially Worrell as we definitely won't be able to afford to buy him.

  4. I'm leaning towards it putting MFC into a more attractive position for any future external investment, through the sale of the said shares. If the club has no "debt" then it makes it a bit clearer for anyone who may be interested in buying into the club, imo.
