If I were a betting person, which I'm not, I would put money on there being some sort of issue uncovered with one or more people in the recruitment set up.

I also think, at this point, that if Gibson feels he has to act he'll get rid of Scott before Carrick unless Carrick revolts publicly.

We certainly feel like a club that is heading for a crisis. This summer was a massive misjudgement but I'm not sure that anyone (apart from possibly Wilder*) can claim they got it right.

    *not really

The thing is Scott is on a limited budget, and will of been given a remit. Perhaps they gambled on the Carrick effect helping to bring the best out of these so called rough diamonds. I think that Carrick will be the one who will inevitably make way one way or another. He is the one picking the team sheet, the one who organises the training and so on. So he is ultimately accountable for the onfield results.

If Diggerlad's team is right, I hope its 3-5-2.

    Dieng

    RVB, Lenihan, McNair

    Jones, Crooks, Howson, Hackney,O'Brien

    Forss, Coburn

He hasn't changed formation once since being here, so I'd expect it to still be 4231 as always. With mcnair as rb, vdb and lenihan, obrian as lb.

Jones on the right wing with Hackney howson in the middle, with more than likely sammi can't put a foot wrong silvera on the left, with Crooksinho in the 10, and coburn up top.

  3. I would expect the club have to be looking at options right now, either if Carrick walks (which I doubt he would) or we plan on sacking him. We can't keep switching management styles, so I imagine it would have to be a similar sort of manager, young-ish maybe a bit more experienced than Carrick though. Possibly down the foreign route, especially if we are planning on using the foreign markets for player recruitment's.

I guess it's possible that Carrick will turn out to be a Scott Parker style manager. Able to do well with a team that's one of the best in the division but not otherwise.

I don't see Gibson pulling the plug yet. Woodgate had two runs of 10 games without a win in his season without being sacked and I think Gibson will try and give Carrick that much time at least. Clearly questions need to be asked about how the hell we've got ourselves into this mess but let's face it, we've been through four cost cutting exercises since McClaren left. Southgate, Pulis, Woodgate and now Carrick. Three of them are looking disastrous and those three have a common factor of sticking in a first-time manager with no support. (Starts to make you think that Pulis perhaps did a better job than anyone realised at the time.)

If things don't improve quickly, I suspect Scott may carry the can. If we go into the international break in 4 games time still winless and Carrick hasn't changed how he sets up the team, I think he goes then as well.

I don't know what Gibson will learn from this but he is the one who keeps making the same mistake. He can fire and hire as many managers, coaches and heads of football as he likes but he shows no signs of improving his decision-making. If anything he seems to be getting worse.

I think its because he's trying to do it on the cheap, we could of kept Akpom, and Giles but Gibson for what ever reason wasn't willing to invest in them, and wanted to cash out on Akpom. Wonder which player will be sold to cover the books next year? Probably Hackney.

I saw it as Fry Lenihan and VDB at the back. Jones rarely came back into our half

Jones was able to push up because Delgado (I think it was) sat back because of the threat Jones pace had. It was still a back four, it looked like a three as LB is not RVB natural position and he didn't push as far forward, but probably a good thing as their RWB had a lot of pace and was a threat all night.

I agree as I have been arguing for 4-3-3 for some time. Realistically, I don't see how we could change shape at a moment's notice and we also do lack an overlapping right back. I would be tempted to go with

    Dieng

    Jones - Fry - Lenihan - Bangura

    Hackney - O'Brien - McGree

    Forss - Lath - Greenwood/Rogers

It's a bit of a pedal to the metal approach but maybe that's what we need right now. Desperately need to change the tempo we play at. We have been trying and failing miserably to copy deZerbi-ball which plays with quite a low, gentle press in order to spring high-speed counter-attacks. I think our players are mostly front-foot players.

I get that, but I think I would stick with forss down the middle just because I feel he's the best natural finisher we have in the squad just now, and I thing LL would do better coming in from wide positions, possibly from the left, onto his right foot.

I don't want Carrick sacked and I blame Gibson over recruitment but when you say blame the coaches......Well unfortunately Carrick sets up the training so it's on his head rather than danksy and co

Surely if something needs to change one of these great coaches should offer suggestions? I mean if you see something isnt working and you think you know why then you try to help I'd of thought?

From a personal point of view can I say how insignificent this thread has become in my opinion and not worth discussing any more especially the ones that got away, we have what we have and looking at things so far they are going to need our support, not moans and groans, to ensure that they can start to get things moving in the right direction.

We have a team what they are capable of remains to be seen!

    Good luck Boro

I can't see them getting our support, the crowd was quiet again, atmosphere looked flat.

They (the players, and coaches) need to show that they can turn this around for them to get our support in my opinion.

Right now I don't think they can and for what it's worth I can see a sacking in the not too distant future if things dont change, and we end up starting all over again. It's not what I want personally as I hope Carrick can turn it around. But the bad form has continued from last season. We can harp on about the replacements not being upto scratch, but this is where a good manager/coach comes into his own and formulates tactics that fits the squad at his disposal, not one he inherited almost a year ago.

I was hoping that I would wake up this morning with some clarity and positivity regarding yesterday. Instead, I have wope up feeling even worse about the result.

Dieng - 6 - Could do nothing about the first goal especially, passed the ball well.

Engel - 3 - Kept getting beat down his side (where a lot of goals seem to be coming from this season). Offered very very little going forward.

Fry - 6 - Not at particular fault for anything. Made some good challenges.

    Lenihan - 6 - Similar to Fry.

McNair - 3 - His passing is going to drive me crazy. Always feel a bit bad for him being forced to play a position that he is clearly uncomfortable in.

Howson - 3 - Legs have well and truly gone and his passing is no where near what it used to be. He cannot be relied upon to start in his current form.

Hackney - 5 - also misplaced a few passes but at least made the attempt to pass forwards from time to time.

Jones - 6 - Really surprised me that he was subbed off. Looked like our best attacking outlet down the wings.

Rogers - 5 - The ball just wouldn't stick with him. Seems to be trying too hard at times and not being clever with the ball.

Silvera - 2 - Speaking of trying too hard... He is the only player that we have signed that I can't get away with right now. Dire shooting and awful crossing. Can't believe he wasn't subbed off instead of Jones.

Latte Lath - 3 - Could make a good case to suggest that he was the reason we lost due to his poor finishing. Yes their keeper made the saves but each shot was straight at him.

    (Subs)

McGree - 5 - Looked to be trying to kick us into gear and drive us forward, ended up losing the ball more often than not.

Greenwood - 6 - Not a great deal to say here tbh.

Corburn and O'Brien didn't have enough time to change the game all that much but both looked bright coming on.

Interesting to see how others saw the game and if they think any differently on the ratings?

Think you rated silvera too high.

  10. The team looks totally disjointed there is no real harmony like their was when Carrick first came. The players are not really on the same wavelength yet, and things are just not working out. Why he left silvera on is anyone's guess, but I was hoping he'd keep izzy on and bring mcgree on for silvera.

Lath looks very frustrated and knows he needs to do better, but once his confidence comes I'm sure so will the goals.

Carrick really is struggling with this, I don't think he has the answers either. Let's see how it goes after the international break. But I think he won't have long once the crowd turns on them sadly.
