  1. I think the offside rule should just be the foot, should make the decision making a lot easier. Would lead to more goals too as it would punish high lines, and we should have the automated system, this should be easy and reduce the time taken to reach a decision.

I also think that VAR should only interfere for dives or for incidents off the ball, if the referee has a direct view of an incident like a handball, possible red card challenge or a penalty and doesn't give it on the field then that's that, give the power back to the referees. There's too many fouls and handballs that are slowed down to the microsecond where every handball looks intentional and every challenge looks brutal.

69.1% apparently.  That was the lowest figure in our team like, and only Sam Gallagher had a lower one for Blackburn.  I take it he didn't have the best of games?

He was pretty solid defensively, he slid in to stop a certain goal in the first half. Got into some good positions from an attacking point of view but was very wasteful.

Wouldn't mind us trying it again on Saturday, as I think it's the kind of game where we'll get turned over in our usual set up. As you say though, there has to be desire to win the ball back and counter or it's pointless. And not saying I want us to play like that every game. Just think there's certain fixtures where it suits us and there's value in having the players comfortable in a couple of different set ups.

I know it's not as simple as just swapping one player, but honestly think Jones in for Ayling changes the dynamic of the back five in a pretty major way. He was brilliant there under Wilder and was key when we made it work v Chelsea under Carrick.

If I'm honest I'd prefer to switch back to a 4-2-3-1 if we have Jones back, but you're right he was superb at Wingback, and it could be a good option whilst our right back options are limited (I'm not the biggest Ayling fan). Now is a good time to experiment, the only way of getting to the playoffs is if we really strike gold.

The forum set a new record during this game at one point we had 1465 members or not signed in members viewing the thread.

Actually getting up to 1400 has been quite regular of late so all I can say is stop lurking and sign in!

Up to you but really thanks very much for the interest shown.

You have to wonder how many would view if we were currently a top 6 side

Very few, what would there be to complain about? 🤠

No, we looked more solid with a game plan that stuck everyone behind the ball, and we rarely ventured forward.  McNair had nothing to do with it.  It was the same against Chelsea in the first leg but McNair didn't play in that one.  It's a logical fallacy, in Latin they say 'post hoc ergo propter hoc', which means 'after therefore because of this'.  In other words because an event occurred first then it must have caused the later event.  At the moment we have a couple of these on this thread.  One is that we changed the system, and won, therefore the change in system is responsible.  This one mentioned by you is that McNair came into the side, and we looked more solid, therefore we looked more solid because McNair came into the side.  Both ignore the context of the game or evidence in previous games.  We weren't defensively solid in this game being quite an important point but not being defensively solid somehow has less importance when the other team don't take their chances.  In the aforementioned Chelsea game we also weren't solid, and we should have lost by a couple, but they missed their own easy chances, and we got away with it.  Then of course people were on that thread after the game saying the same things that they are now for the same reasons.

I think we need to be careful not to go over the top on the back of a positive result especially when there's enough evidence out there to suggest different things.  This game might have suited this set up to an extent but that doesn't mean that other games will be the same, and again, I don't think we were solid at all anyway, I think people are talking themselves into something that isn't true.  If Leicester take their good chances, not even any half chances, they score 4 or 5 in that game, and nobody is talking about us being solid afterwards.  I've mentioned Rotherham a few times on this thread to try and get my point across better, we've scored 1 goal in two games against them, does anyone on here think they looked solid against us because I certainly didn't.  We screwed ourselves out of two wins against them, and Leicester screwed themselves out of a win against us.  I don't believe Rotherham had much to do with our failings, and I don't believe that we had that much to do with Leicester's.

I agree that we won't have many games where we're packed in defending like we were against Leicester and that we tend to let the result inform our opinion of the performance rather than looking at them both in isolation.

But I do think whilst we're lacking a bit in the wingers department that a back 3 could suit us in the short term with the personnel available. We can still play on the front foot and try to control the game in that formation.

Feel like Lath is getting written off a bit fast by some. I thought he looked alright recently and seems to be gaining confidence.

He's only started 15 games, so seven goals really isn't that bad in his first season in a new country. Especially as the entire team has been inconsistent and we've barely been able to see a full strength XI.

He's got the pace, engine, and attitude to do well in this league. I reckon he could be one of those players that suddenly clicks and goes on a scoring run.

4 goals in his 10 league starts and goals every 193 minutes, you'd be looking at close to 20 goals if he could be play a full 46 game season, at the moment his injuries are a sticking point, the best ability is availability. I do think we need an extra striker at the club regardless especially if he's unwilling to play Forss there even in a pinch.

IF? we lose Morgan Rogers have we a replacement lined up or are we gonna make do with what we have?I keep asking myself this

We just got Azaz in who plays number 10, we'd have Isaiah, McGree, Forss, Silvera, Greenwood and Gilbert for the wings and Azaz and Crooks for the number 10. I don't think a replacement is 100% necessary as long as we keep getting players back from injury/international duty.

  8. Rogers is a weird one, he's made 13 starts and only been here 6 months on a permanent from City, since he was already at a big club I imagine he left because he wanted to develop, if he goes to Villa will he not wind up in essentially the same position he was 6 months ago? Definitely wouldn't begrudge him the move especially if we make a good profit, it also meets our role as a club that reinvests funds from player sales into cheaper players with high resale value if they make good on their promising talent.

Over the moon with that result, we were scrappy, seem to have given the ball away far to easy & IMO, part from Ayling no one really stood out, plenty of runners mind, then we sort of grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck, kept our shape, let Millwall continue to play from side to side without causing us any problems, after winning the ball back we broke away & two excellent pases, Azaz assist for our 2nd & Rogers excellent control for our third, putting the game to bed

I feel like with 2 debutants and playing without a recognised striker the team took a while to get into the game and figure each other out? The bits I saw of the first half were very disjointed.
