Bradford vs Middlesbrough 0-2 (Latte Lath, Rogers)
boroie replied to MRe's topic in Match Day Threads 2023/24 Season
That header was very similar to the goal he scored back against WBA, downward header from a right wing cross. This was too close to the keeper though but a decent save. -

1-0 but a poor finish I would say, limp and down the middle, keeper should be a bit embarrassed at letting that one in. Still a goal is a goal! -
Haven't really contributed on this thread and I know there's been a lot of discussion - but why give Coulson an extension then sign Engel and Bangura for the same spot, yet play a midfielder there instead? (O'Brien and previously we tried Riley there too). Haven't had a chance to watch full games due to work this season so far, but it really does strike me as strange.

Blackburn Rovers V Boro 2-1 (Crooks)
boroie replied to Downsouth's topic in Match Day Threads 2023/24 Season
Every game just feels like we are going to concede. I have no confidence in us scoring one, let alone two. -
We'd settle for just winning the occasional game I think! It's been a tough season. Last night Malik completely changed the game though, coming on at half time and was most peoples man of the match. In LOI though as you know, pace and power trumps skill.

Except he also got sent off a couple of weeks ago in a relegation 6 pointer where City were winning and then they ended up losing. This is a bit of redemption in the eyes of the fans.

It could be worse, Reading docked points again https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/66802229

Ah the internationals. Whenever I need something to take my mind off just how bad a football team Boro are sometimes, luckily I get to watch Ireland play and remember it could be even worse.

damn straight! although considering its SA, they probably all say that about themselves

It was a cowardly article. Spin doctors trying to give the "right message". It was and always will be all about the money. Just man up and admit it.

We are going down aren't we, or bringing in Big Sam in December. Or both.

I think its been true nearly every season I can remember bar the prem season!

For christs sake. WTF is wrong with this team. Self inflicted wounds every week. -
This is very true. Most of the frustration is due to him starting games though. If we were said to have a coherent and effective strategy last year, then Crooks is not a piece that fits in that puzzle. Coming on 2nd half though he can be effective offensively and defensively. He just does not have the pace or mobility to start games the way we play though, hence his effectiveness against more tired defenders not tracking runs or his physicality in either box.

Never thought he imposed himself on games while he was here.

Boro v Huddersfield 1-1 (Hackney)
boroie replied to Smogzilla's topic in Match Day Threads 2023/24 Season
Exactly this. I've associated him with Ledesma every game I've seen him so far. Ledesma was class on his day (I was at that 4-1 win against Charlton where he ran riot with Scott McDonald) but unfortunately his days were few and far between. -

I remember reading a great description before by Barry Glendenning of Andy Carroll playing for Newcastle where he compared Andy Carroll flopping around the place similar to "a mattress being thrown from a helicopter". I always think of that description whenever I see Matty Crooks playing. -

Lath - is he going to be the new Hamilton Ricard? I still remember a quote from a forum back in the day about him "built like a brick sh*thouse and plays like one too". -
Just like Robbie Keane!
