  1. Well he is naturally left footed but can play on both sides. He will play on the left for us. Certainly not a natural right winger
  2. Shoehorning Bamford and Assombolonga into the side again is affecting our balance badly. It was obvious to me after two games. Thought a manager of Pulis' calibre would have figured it out by now. Get Gestede and Braithwaite on sharpish! Thank heavens we have a natural left winger on his way in. Now for another target man please.
  3. They 'can' play there but, aside from Johnson who is just not good enough, not one of them is a left winger in the true sense and it is a true left winger that we need. You see, that is the problem, we have players getting squeezed into roles that are not natural. It is really simple. Look at the formation and tactical blueprint of the side and use players who are a natural fit.
  4. Our recruitment has been woeful for some time. Hopefully this is one of the issues that Pulis will identify when he carries out a full assessment of the club as requested by Steve Gibson. One can only hope that FINALLY we have a quality manager in charge who has a plan and knows how to build a capable team that play to his instructions. Of course, this will take a few transfer windows so as you alluded to, fans must be patient.
  5. No impatience on my part. A little disappointment but no impatience. I will be amazed if any of the four players I mentiobed above are here at the start of next season. I think we are probably struggling to find a) other clubs willing to take them and b) the perfect type of players needed to replace them. Tony Pulis isn't stupid. He knows how difficult it is to do good deals in January. Anything we achieve this season is going to be a bonus. The current squad is a mess
  6. I hope his month in charge culminating in todays game has given Tony Pulis clarity in relation to the shortcomings of this squad. I was a little alarmed when he declared that we would not be spending any money in this window. It is evident that we are massively short in so many areas. How we have ended up with such a poor, unbalanced squad after spending so much money is quite staggering but that is a different topic altogether. Let me start in defence. Pulis likes to be very solid in terms of the players he chooses in the back four. Tall, solid and strong are three of the most important
  7. Theres a transfer thread? Ok, you have me banged to rights then. Take me straight to jail. Does it really matter to so many of you that a new member makes a new thread regarding opinions that could possibly be split up and assigned to different pre-existing threads? How far back do we go when searching for these existing threads? I suggest those complaining find something a little more worthwhile to vent about than this. Very odd behaviour indeed. Back on topic, has anyone heard Pulis' post match words in full? It's bang to rights, not banged to rights. Yes, we have thread
  8. I would buy this argument if Downing/Braithwaite/Traore/Howson/etc had scored bucket loads with Gestede on the pitch. How many do they have between when Rudy leads the line? No point having a target man if players don’t run in behind. Do any of our midfielders/attacking midfielders get beyond the centre forward regularly? Traore and Braithwaite do and Howson is getting much further forward.
  9. I would buy this argument if Downing/Braithwaite/Traore/Howson/etc had scored bucket loads with Gestede on the pitch. How many do they have between when Rudy leads the line? I concede that 4 games is too short a run of matches to form a true opinion of which striker improves the team performances the most. However, judging by what I have seen we look much more solid and much more threatening with Gestede up top. We looked much better with him in the side today. We looked a million times better with him in the side at Preston. There was a very clear difference in how the team played

  11. No doubting Britt is the better goalscorer but is this about Britt or about the team? Surely we select the striker that most improves the performances and success rate of the team don't we? In my opinion we have looked much better with Gestede playing than Britt playing. Do you not agree with that? Ravanelli was one of the top scorers in the league in 96/97 but it didn't do us any good did it? We were relegated. It should always be about team performance and team success. If we score more goals and collect more points with Gestede in the team ahead of Britt then surely we go with the former
  12. I have just seen a snippet about Britt costing x amount so should be putting away his chances. As for the question and context I am afraid I don't know. Needs to concentrate more on the big lump that he chose to start the game. Two bad misses from Gestede. Is he the perfect solution to that role? No. Is he a better option than Britt? Yes. No. Not in any way. You don't think that Gestede is a better option in this system than Britt. Can you explain the reasons for this opinion citing examples of when Britt has improved the teams performance or when we have scored more goals
  13. Spot on. Agree with all of that. Good idea to send Fletcher out on loan instead of selling him. He had the height but not the physique or nous to lead the line just yet but that may come. Ironically, our two best strikers in my opinion, Britt and Bamford are the ones who are the least suited to our style of play under Pulis. And yes, awful transfer business but who is held accountable? The club is a mess and hopefully Pulis had been brought in to clean it all up. Big job.
  14. What did he say please mate? I have just seen a snippet about Britt costing x amount so should be putting away his chances. As for the question and context I am afraid I don't know. 18. Judging by our managers post match comments, he may feel the same way as I do about Britt. I think he is on borrowed time at this club now.
  19. I think his price tag is one of the main factors why he WILL be sold. Can we afford having a 15 million pound striker not starting every week. In my opinion, we look a much better team when we have a big man up top. We looked a different team when Gestede cam on against Preston and we were a much better team with him on the pitch today. Gestede is not a better striker than Britt but he is more effective in this particular set up and improves the teams performance more than Britt does judging by what I have seen.
  20. Bamford will be sold and rightly so. Does not have the attributes for any role in this team. With regards to Britt, it will be a brave decision to sell him but the correct one. If we got 15M back for him we could use that to sign a more suitable striker.
  21. The imaginary person in my imaginary situation lived in a forest in the mountains that was 1000 miles from the nearest large water area. :D
  22. I forgot about him. He was excellent in Holland last year but again, he is the type of player that is not going to fit into a Pulis team. Too many recent managers have shoehorned players into positions where they are not at their best. I am confident Pulis won't make such mistakes and that will mean some players moving on. I don't think anyone would have thought Fabio would be leaving the club but he just does not offer anything as a full back in this type of setup.
  23. I am aware that Pulis has played with mobile strikers but have a look at how his teams have fared when he has done that. Not very well. The way in which he sets his team up, the type of players that he has in his team lends itself to utilising the strengths of a target man. I am not suggesting that Pulis asks his teams to hammer the ball from one end of the pitch to the other but he does like a big man to play off. I understand that Britt is our top scorer but just have a think for a second and ask yourself what is the point of keeping him if he can not excel in the role that is required? T
  24. Do you see him being able to excel in a Pulis team? I don't and I think his body language has changed dramatically since Pulis came in. I honestly think we might sell him to a lower Prem team. I do rate him but I am 100% sure that he is not the type of player for our style and formation. As soon as Gestede went off Fulham came back into it. We didnt have anyone to hold the ball up and play off. Britt loves running in behind but this meant that we were giving the ball back to Fulham continuously. When he did come to meet the ball he didn't make it stick and it looks as if he doesn't enjoy pl
