  1. Yep. No promotion next year will mean a complete clear out and rebuild. Unless they manage to sell a load of players and pull in another 70-80mil+. They’ll need to at minimum cut the wage bill in half to remain sustainable. Also..they don’t have ‘good debt’ like us. It’ll be interesting to see if they gamble and go all in next year. If you were a fan what would you want them to do?
  2. Van Den Berg is our only consistent 8 or 9 out of 10 performer every week this season. Especially since he moved into cb. The rest haven’t been near good enough. You can blame injuries to some degree but the league table is a fair reflection of our performances. Big summer is needed from the recruitment team!
  3. We simply don’t have the players that are capable of playing out from the back. How many times have gifted the opposition a cheap goal.
  4. That was a gift. Casual passing at the back.
  5. Strange window. Not really much going on at any club about from Hull. If the rumours are true and we are trying for archer then I’d be happy to wait until the summer and use the Rogers money. Promotion this year isn’t happening imo. This squad is just too inconsistent. Maybe if we get lucky and have no more injuries then we might have a chance. I just can’t see it. The new approach of buying prospects and developing and selling will pay off. We just need to accept our progression will be slower.
  6. Barca didn’t take him up on his offer then
  7. Yes. One of Bristols covid excuses was because the lost profits arising from the collapse of the transfer market which is allowed by the EFL.
  8. Some other clubs around the playoffs Some people were wondering about Hull. They have no P&S concerns after the sale of the club. ‘Financial Sustainability Hull City had no Profitability and Sustainability (FFP) concerns under the Allams, thanks to the former owners’ frugal approach. Ilıcalı has confirmed that this remains the case, though it is possible that the club might still offload some players this summer to raise money. Worth noting that the £20m owner loan write-off will be excluded from any FFP calculation.’
  9. Harsh. Our strikers are new to the league so it was always going to be difficult to hit the ground running. Corburn in the starting 11 will be new territory for the lad. I think Corburn/Lath will come good in time and each get as many goals as Archer. It was always going to be difficult to replace Akpom, Ramsey, Archers & Giles goal contributions. I think the scouting team are finding good players/prospects and Carricks doing a good job developing them. I also believe we will be promotion contenders if we stick to this system. We just need to be patient. It would be interesting to see
  10. Here’s a snippet of Swiss rambles boro analysis. I don’t want to post the whole article as it wouldn’t be right. I do recommend subscribing as it’s only £5 a month and has some great P&S content. Regarding Financial Fair Play Despite the reported losses, I think that Middlesbrough should have been fine in terms of the EFL’s Profitability & Sustainability rules in 2023, having made allowable deductions for “good” expenditure (infrastructure, youth development, community and women’s football) and COVID losses (restricted to £5m a year). However, in my opinion this was only
  11. I still think Rogers was brought in to replace Akpom and play in that false 9 role that connects play. Sounds like we might be replacing Rogers with a num 9 that leads the line and runs into space to stretch the game. Similar to Lath. That would leave that fake 9 position needing filled. McGree & crooks can do it but I’d be surprised if they put in 3+ games in a row without a 5/6 out of 10 performance or injury(more mcgree). Not sure if Azaz was brought in to do it? Hopefully we are looking to get that filled should Rogers leave. Diallo would be the perfect fake 9 for me
  12. When Scott signed pukki for Norwich he brought him in thinking he would score 15 goals a season instantly. There’s an interview on YouTube of him discussing it. When we signed Lath I bet Scott was hoping he would score 15+ league goals this season. He has 5 so far. Rogers has 2 league goals. Lath & Roger’s will eventually come good for us and hit 15+ goals a season imo. At the moment we are taking 2 steps forward and 1 step back with our progression. I’m hoping after a while we won’t be taking that one step back when we replace an important player.
  13. It feels like this model is still a work in progress. We now have a great coach that is able to improve players. The scouting team have finally started to bring in good prospects/replacements. The next challenge is the toughest in my opinion. When we sell important players we need to sign someone that will make it seem like a seamless replacement. I think Morgan was in to replace Akpom & lath to replace Archer. Both replacements have showed their qualities but they haven’t quite fully filled the void(yet). My concern is Carrick will get fed up and walk before we build our promotion team.
  14. Agreed. £10mil a bargain going by tonight. Tall, Athletic, physical, good on the ball and can finish(although he did scuff one in the first half)
  15. Fans were amazing tonight. Some players (mostly Engel & barlaser) showed they are miles off premier league quality tonight. Hopefully lessons are learnt and we use it to push on for the playoffs. Thought Rogers looked very good
  16. Anyone know if boro are set to gain anything from djed spences move to Italy? Do we have a sell on clause?
  17. If we could get mooy free from Celtic that would be an excellent bit of business. His contract is up in June 2023 but Celtic do have an option to extend. Don’t think he starts many games so hoping he wants to leave to get more playing time. Get agent mcgree on the job.
  18. Robson, mcclaren and karanka were all provided with a lot of funds. The boro teams Robson & karanka managed probably had a higher transfer/wage spend than most(if not all) teams in the championship/div 1. Carrick would be taking on a team which is in the lower half of the league when it comes to transfer/wage spending. He will have a bigger job on his hands than the others. Hope he does well if/when he gets it tho
  19. The Athletic published a list of all the EPL players whose deal runs out in summer. Would you take any/are any realistic? *\*An asterisk means they are likely to re-sign, or are already pretty certain to have a club lined up\** **Arsenal**: Alexandre Lacazette, Eddie Nketiah, Mohamed Elneny\* **Aston Villa**: Ashley Young\*, Conor Hourihane **Brentford**: Christian Eriksen, Julian Jeanvier, Mathias ‘Zanka’ Jorgensen **Brighton**: Danny Welbeck\*, Pascal Gross\*, Alex Cochrane, Tudor Baluta, Lars Dendoncker **Burnley**: Ben Mee, James Tarkowski, Phil Bardsley, Erik
  20. Ebosele looks like a young Adama. Natural left sided attacking wing back. He probably should be one of our top targets after a keeper. Especially if we can get him on a free.
  21. After watching reading v p’boro I feel Derby will stay up comfortably this season. They have better players/quality and more fight than them two clubs put together. Young Ebosele at left wing back looks like he’s going places. Glad he was injured when we played them. He could be a good signing for us imo. Would Derby do business with us? 😅
  22. Thanks mate. This is helpful. I think we are in sync on most of this. It sounds like we have bigger allowable expenses figures than what I was estimating which is positive. I don’t know if the EFL has accounted for how difficult the 2023 submissions will be for most championship clubs. I would expect the clubs will need vote on another one off rule to make it visible. Hopefully we won’t need to worry about it as we will be getting premiership revenue money again 🤞
