  1. You have pretty much summed things up perfectly, sadly! When he finally left how soon after the event did you notice any change in Albion? The reason of asking is that I get the impression it might take a while to re-identify a team from the "Pulis style" Well we replaced Pulis with the even more dreadful Alan Pardew, the football did improve from an entertainment point of view although results were awful. Under Darren Moore we had the defensive discipline of a Pulis side with the more attacking intent of Pardew and beat Man Utd, Spurs and Newcastle as well as drawing with Liverpool
  2. I've not been on here for a while. I genuinely feel for you as your Pulis thread is like ours was for a few years before the club finally had the sense to sack the man....and that was the same as Stoke boards before they got rid of him. It won't get better, it just won't. I was one of a small minority of Albion fans that kept saying he will change , look at Palace, all he needs is time, once he has his own players in we'll see the difference etc etc etc. We never got better, he has one way of playing and it's "do not lose" not "try to win". Obviously his remit was to keep us in the premier
  3. Went to see PiL last night at Hull Uni, very good, they played for a good 90 minutes. Don't like The Asylum as a venue though.
  4. We certainly did have a wealth of CBs but some of that was down to Pulis who brought in Jonny Evans as well as Chester when we already had Craig Dawson, Jonas Olsson and Gareth McAuley. the question remains if he wanted a RB why didn't he buy one instead of buying a CB and playing him out of position? At the time we only had 1 recognised RB which was Christian Gamboa and 1 recognised LB in Sebastian Pocognolli yet Pulis bought yet another CB!
  5. He did bring them through about 2 seasons ago with both playing well at the end of that season but the following season they hardly got any game time despite mainly playing well when they did feature. He definitely favours experience over youth. With regard to earlier comments about James Chester, Pulis did indeed buy him and then proceeded to play him out of position at right back where he struggled and then spent most of the rest of the season on the bench before being sold to Villa (albeit for a slight profit)
  6. With regard to your strikers, both Bamford and Assombalonga should be capable of between 15-20 goals each a season, however in a Pulis side this is unlikely. From his time with Stoke and at West Brom his strikers only once got to 15 goals in a season (Richardo Fuller in 2007/08). Crouch once got to 14 goals. Usually they average out at about 12 goals.
  7. okay then he has spent 15 years of his management career trying to get teams promoted and has managed it twice, is that better? Also having spent most of the last decade in the premier league he has only once managed a top 10 finish, so if you want to be a bottom half of the top tier side then he's your man. He was managing 3 very average Premier league clubs and finished in very average positions. Success for those clubs is staying up and that would be success for us. Right now I'd settle for being a lower half Premier league team. I can understand you being unhappy with Pulis

Also having spent most of the last decade in the premier league he has only once managed a top 10 finish, so if you want to be a bottom half of the top tier side then he's your man. An alternative way of looking at it was he equaled West Broms second best ever league position. Got Stoke to their highest ever league finish (at the time) and Crystal Palace to their highest league position in 25 years (again at the time) - so swings and roundabouts really 2nd

  10. Our future under him just sounds worse and worse Exactly this Hull Baggie, you would have to have been there to understand the depths it got to under Pulis, hence my concern that he will lead Middlesbrough down the same path. I hope I am wrong mind, but leopards, spots and all that I'm sorry to say that he will lead Boro down the same path, he has done it everywhere else. He won't change. There will always be fans who will say "give him time", "this time it'll be different" but it won't be different he has his "style" of play and ruthlessly sticks to it even when it isn't working. H
  11. You must be very happy that WBA got rid of Pulis..... now they will play us next season ;) Their new manager wth the "attacking" football realy worked :-P only just seen this. We got relegated this season mainly due to Alan Pardew and his complete lack of tactics and management nous, the players just couldn't play the way he wanted us to play and we were hamstrung by FFP with regard to wages so could only look at loan signings in January. The reason players couldn't play the way Pardew wanted us to play was because Pulis only buys a certain type of player that can play his way. Pulis rep

  13. Good post and it's hard to disagree with any of what you've put. I think we all knew what we were getting with Pulis, some people didn't want him at any cost while others (myself included) would accept it if he gets us promoted. Watching how things have panned out for West Brom and Stoke over the last few years just makes you think what is the point of getting promoted anyway. Outside of the top 6 you are one bad season away from going down, the likes of WBA and Stoke have just made up the numbers every season and we'd be the same if we got there. Some people say the bubble won't b
  14. Pulis left us with a very unbalanced side loaded with slow defensive players. he likes to have full control of transfers so buys players that suit his style of play which causes problems when he leaves as they can't play a faster , more attacking style of football.
  15. West Brom fan in peace. With regard to Tony Pulis, the debate I've read on here over the last 7 pages is exactly the same as we Baggies had about him. You mostly seem to be split in 2 camps..camp 1 is made up of fans who say he will build a better team given the chance, judge him once he has built his own side etc etc Camp 2 say that it's eye wateringly dull hoofball, he lacks tactical nous, he can only play one way. After his first half season with us I was firmly in camp 1, after his first full season I was in camp 2. At first he kept us up by making us defensively solid but still
