  1. Brentford seem to be doing some good work in the transfer market, today close to signing Celta Vigo midfielder Mathias Jensen. With a midfield already containing Watkins, Canos, Sawyers etc, I'm starting to get a little green with envy.   With signing Pontus Jansson and David Raya also , I reckon they'll be right up there this season.

Teams are improving around us  , and we're standing still (or going backwards) with a rookie manager.  Looking at teams you'd expect to be in the promotion mix (Brentford, Cardiff, Derby, Fulham, Huddersfield, Leeds, Notts Forest, Stoke & West Brom) , presently I just can't see us competing for top 6 , we'll be battling the likes of Blackburn, Preston, Swansea & Hull to get into the top 10.

Maybe Gibson has looked at it and thought unless we invest big time to challenge for top 2 , any investment is a waste of money providing we can stay in the championship without relegation fears.  ROI might be high in the club thinking this summer.

NB. I can see us cashing in on Armstrong for a small fee in same way we did with Geroge Miller.

Yeah i think Coulsons injury was a bad one, brunners, but prior to that he was talked about highly.

We made a loss on George Miller , not huge in actual £/Pounds but the % knock would seem high.

The fee to bring Miller to the Riverside is thought to be less than the originally-mooted £1m, but could go beyond that with add-ons, and Boro have twice saw approaches rebuffed by the Shakers over the last fortnight.

The League One play-off contenders have made a reported £200,000 plus add-ons offer to take the young hitman to Oakwell.

Recouping a 1/4 or a 1/5 of our outlay on Miller seems awful business.

Apart from Lewis Wing I'm struggling to see what young prospects we've signed on a low fee , that have either broken into the first team or turned a decent profit.

Remember this guy (Mikael Soisalo)  https://www.gazettelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/introducing-mikael-soisalo-middlesbrough-academys-12740335

If the new club plan is to buy bargain prospects from the lower leagues in the hopes of coming good , I think we need to up our game from previous examples (Wing excluded of course).

Jamal Lowe seems a talent from what I've seen of him

Genuine question though , why didn't he start for Pompey in their biggest game of the season (2nd playoff leg against Sunderland) if he's their best player.

Could have been carrying a knock , but if we wasn't I'm confused why he didn't start.

How many signings do you expect? I’d expect 1 striker, 1/2 wingers, 1 centre back, 2 full backs and possibly a midfielder. I expect to see Braithwaite, gestede and one of the centre backs out. Possibly friend and shotton might leave too?

When you say half (1/2) wingers , do you mean "little people" ?

Nixon said he was told Woodgate weeks ago because he's the cheap option and there needs to be big cuts.

Why since then would Gibson, Bevington, Bausor & Kenyon spends weeks interviewing others??

  6. I think we underestimate the amount of sway Agents and Agency firms have. They whisper in the right ear, and help get deals over the line. They also actively work with certain clubs to earth some hidden gems, etc.

With us having a very open Club policy of hating Agents and screwing their commissions to the floor. Pulling the plug on deals at the eleventh hour to force lower fees.

What Agent would want to do us any favours, or be pooping themselves for an eleventh hour deal collapse.

"Super Agent" Jorge Mendes was close to our club a few seasons ago and with Peter Keynon presented a plan to Gibson how to conveyor belt our club for Europe's finest youngsters. Gibson declined in fear of losing the "local" club mentality and backed backed Gary Gill. As we all know Jorge Mendes then took this opportunity to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Football's a global game, and we're now reaping the rewards of closing ourselves off and keeping it local.

  7. Spurs, Leicester & Palace have been linked with Bowen. Spurs seem quite serious about getting him  So, yeah, I don't think there's much point discussing him as a Boro target.

Got to say, not been hugely inspired by any of the names being bandied about. Just more of the same.

Yet none have made a bid. Granted it could be going on behind the scenes, but it could just as well be his agent trying to drum up some interest.

Neither have we. And we haven't been seriously linked in the media. It's just a bunch of fans naming unrealistic targets on internet forums.

Latest is that Spurs are readying a formal offer after Harry Kane's injury.

Yesterday Spurs were considering Origi as a replacement for Kane.

    https://www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/sport/football/hull-city-s-bowen-to-spurs-pochettino-hadn-t-heard-his-name-until-wednesday-1-9519754

TOTTENHAM Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has ruled out making a January move for Hull City top-scorer Jarrod Bowen.

But dismissing any talk of a move for Spurs, Pochettino said: “I heard for the first time yesterday (Wednesday) this name. It is like many names that appear in the media – rumours. “Be careful because hundreds of players were related with the club and then never happened. I think my answer is so clear.

  8. Doesn't Mikel have a suspect Nigerian birth certificate, where his "real" age is probably closer to 40 ?

Na, thats one of those urban myths that perpetuates around every Nigerian footballer

Martins at Newcastle did look about 50 though .

  9. Whilst we're well stocked on CM's I think having Cabaye for his set pieces alone would add a huge amount of goal threat from us. I'd love it to be him. If it's any of the other CM's named then I can't see much logic in it. If we sign a further CM then we're surely going to have to move on some CM's like Leadbitter or even trying to cancel Besic's loan.

That's a good point.. if it's a CM who can take set pieces then it makes a lot more sense.

But we've got the best left foot in English football, set pieces shouldn't be our problem ............ should they?
