  1. whilst not condoning NW's referee rants, most of the time he only has a pop when something blatant has happened and if I was a player, I think I would appreciate my boss saying, " yes, he should have been done for almost taking your eye out" more than "it is what it is". We all know that some players go down easier than others but I would like to think most of our players are fairly genuine. The old saying that the best referee is the one that you don't notice still holds true, but I think it would help some them to not just chat over the mikes and make a show of walking across to the line and
  2. Hopefully just being given the nod to participate in a first team session makes the lad realise he has been noticed and that there is an opportunity if he keeps at it. Nice to see so many smiles as well, points towards a good spirit around the place.
  3. Swansea's now but ours previously and perhaps subsequently but possibly not at this exact minute, if we want to be precise .. but in the grand scheme of things, our rivals have included a range spanning Benfica, Real Madrid, Roma and South Bank, so a team that we have competed against could fit into that category in fact the definition can be given as a person or thing competing with another for the same objective or for superiority in the same field of activity, so whilst not being a close rival, it is obvious that they can be fitted into that category 🙂
  4. It is significant when the only supporters that think the decisions were right are Swansea and even our rivals think we wuz robbed.. Hope you can edge them and Watford out on the run-in and make it to the Prem this year.. and if you have any spare goalscorers, point them this way 🙂
  5. beaten at the near post.. shocking.. thousands of goalkeepers in the world would have saved that and at least one could have stood in the centre and reached it without moving.. 🙂 excellent reactions from striker, but was defender trying to dodge goalkeeper or ball?
  6. Lad from Richmond.. shows promise but still raw.. solid build though, and knows where the net is
  7. Naw... can't catch the ball.. dives too late ... and probably not house-trained... would just be like for like with Bettinelli
  8. Never let it be said that people ignore you 🙂 Can I be the first not to mention Marcus Maddison or Charlie Wyke?
  9. I think seven is a bit young to be drinking beer... make him wait till he's ten, like the rest of us 🙂
  10. Astonishingly Quest agreed that we wuz robbed.. first time for everything.. didn't show Dijksteel incident though
  11. It is hard to pick out instances sometimes because for some weird reason I appear to be slightly biased (or wear Boro goggles)... I like to think that as a team, we are fairly honest though I recognise some players do fall over easily, they don't go looking to get opponents cards.
  12. Would be interesting to monitor decisions over a season to see if things actually do "even themselves out" in the long run.. It might just be my imagination but it does seem if that is the case, we are due a whole bunch of stuff to go our way in the run in.. or is it just that the bad stuff stays in the mind and we conveniently forget the gifts
  13. Can only hope that karma decides that they meet Cardiff in the play-off final and lose to a bad decision. Penalty a bit iffy, but Bola goal decision just plain wrong... not keen on VAR in present form, but must be some system where each team can be allotted a certain number of reviews to resolve contentious decisions and if no "appeal", just let ref's original decision stand.
  14. I know who I'm blaming... this is what happens when somebody decides defeat is not inevitable
  15. Just a starter.. tomorrow BD and SD will discuss Kierkegaard's maxim "Don't forget to love yourself" and if it applies to videos 🙂
  16. Our situation is more like the beginning of A Tale of Two Cities.. it was the best of games.. it was the worst of games.. passes of wisdom, passes of foolishness. displays of belief and displays of incredulity, the season of light and the season of darkness, the autumn of hope and the January of despair... who said culture was dead 🙂
  17. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/56291850 Am I reading this right in understanding that it only applies to attack and not defence.. or is it just unclear wording?
  18. Used to wind up the opposition by lighting a Woodbine if he was having a quiet game... ran across him a few times when I used to go to away games .. had a "colourful" vocabulary, but always happy to mix with fans and got pleasure from the number of people that acknowledged him.
  19. RIP Willie Whigham.... a character and a decent player
  20. maybe I am viewing events with excessive caution, but to me, it looks as though NW is trying to bring players in that are able to play in a variety of styles.. we are obviously able to go long even though we need a target man who can hold the ball and is happy to pass to a teammate.. and we have enough skill to be fluid when the opportunity arises.. we have battlers and even a bit of pace. the players being signed have been in positions that needed to be sorted and in most cases have had an effect. Viewing this as a transition season, I think we are in a better place squad wise than last yea
  21. Alas, poor Blanco, I knew him well... a fellow of infinite jest. even wore his Boro shirt in public 🙂
  22. I once saw a programme about road bowling...don't know if it still goes on , like to see them try that on the moor road... 🙂
