Was at the match too and can only echo what Donny and DS have said.
Actually, I thought we looked pretty much in control for the first 30 minutes. Passed it around nicely, scored twice and didn't give Posh many chances...after that though we seemed to do the "typical Boro" thing, switched off, conceded a daft goal and let them back into it.
Second half picked up where the first left off and after they equalised, Peterborough looked the more likely winners. Credit to our lads though, they didn't lose it altogether and began to get back into the game in the final 15-20 minutes.
Miller turned out to be an inspired sub and overall I think we just about deserved the win. Granted Boro weren't great, but Posh looked very ordinary for most of the game (took their chances well though).
Reckon we had at least 1 stonewall penalty turned down and another half-decent shout that was waved off by the ref.
I'd like to give a shout out to DS, his lad, DonnySmog and the other guy who was with us. A thoroughly nice bunch of blokes!
i suppose a slight worry but with the games over/after christmas you could be back top in a week
I dunno. Christmas and New Year are traditionally Boro's "Mare Period" where we struggle to win any games. Lets hope we can buck the trend this season.
Just looking at the form of oth teams:
PETERBOROUGH HOME: W2 D0 L8 F12 A20
MIDDLESBROUGH AWAY: W4 D1 L5 F13 A15
Boro have lost 3 of their last 5 games, but Posh haven't won in 7, with 6 of those being defeats.
What was that somebody said about Boro being the club to break other clubs' losing streaks? :-/
True, but the question of fatigue must also be considered. During periods where games come thick and fast (such as now) and we can be playing 2 or even 3 games in the space of 7-10 days, the effort will take its toll.
Our players have looked a leggy in a few games recently and tiredness has probably contributed to our recent spate of defeats (notice how our dip in form has coincided with the busier schedule).
Even taking injury worries out of the equation, Mowbray has to make sure our first choice players are rested and can give 100% for 90 minutes for the league games...if we are to have a serious chance of staying in touch with Palace and Cardiff.
Personally I think taking a long-term approach and putting promotion ahead of silverware is the shrewd thing to do. Cup runs (and wins) are nice but the kudos and financial rewards of reaching the Premier League far outweigh anything an FA or League Cup win can offer IMO.
Anyway, getting back on topic, a few games ago I'd have confidently predicted a comfortable win for (Middles)Boro. Now, however, I really wouldn't want to call it. It all depends which version turns up.
Heart says we should win, despite our mixed performances of late. Head says, be prepared for anything...
I'll take DS's advice and just turn up on the day and pay at the gate. If I don't get a ticket, its all his fault! ;)
Well, no glamour tie this round, but at least we ought to be guaranteed a place in the next round.
Agree with borobrio that this ought to be another candidate match for cut-price tickets.
I have a confession to make.
I logged in to Boro+ with about 30 minutes to go, when we were leading 2-1 and within 5 minutes Birmingham equalised.
I think I may have jinxed us. :(
According to "expert summariser" Neil "Maddo" Maddison we were far the better team, only let down by a couple of mistakes. They reckon Steele will have been disappointed not to save the long-range equaliser and McEachran made a sloppy pass which led directly to the winner.
Rather gutted I have to say. Lets hope we can have another "redemption" game at Peterborough...especially as I'm hoping to be there.
Final whistle!
Overall a great comeback performance and a great confidence booster for both the players and fans after back-to-back defeats.
Couple of tricky away games to come though, so lets hope theres no more complacency.
I'm more than happy with a 2-0 win. After Saturday I was thinking we'd do well to get a draw.
While it hasn't been a brilliant performance, its a huge improvement from the Bristol game.
SKIPPY GETS A SECOND!!!!
BORO 3 - 0 HUDDERSFIELD.
Forget what I just said - this has been a brilliant comeback!!!
Could be worse...imagine having the middle names "Optimism Prime". ;)
Clarke header...well saved by Steele...linesman flags for offside.
Uh-oh. Adam Hamill warming up for the Terriers...
