Boro V Ipswich (A) 2-0 (Besic, Downing)

big-cat-feed-vip-carousel-4_original.jpgBoro's away game stats haven't been very good lately, with only one win in the last 5 away games and Ipswich have drawn all their 5 home games this season. That looks like a scenario, where the boys in blue will park the tractor in front of the goal and let the lions roar and threat, but without any real biting going on.

But we can hope, that our Tony will find the right combination of players, who can use a tin opener and find the way through the parked tractor. IF Mr. Pulis refuses to use his attacking players and set them up for a win of the 3 points, that for sure is there to take, which will result in a dreadful draw or a nicked home win... The Ipswich fan club, has this t-shirt, as shown on the picture below, ready for sale, to honor the Boro manager, a bringer of presents.

But since this forum's very own Mr. Wilson has predicted, that this thread's writer will write 10+ match day threads in a row, where this is the first; true believers will find a way to have faith in The Boro, who will go on a wild winning spree for a while.

Predicted line up: Randolph, Shotton, Ayala, Flint, Friend, Clayton, Howson, Saville, Downing, Braithwaite, Assombalonga.

Injuries: Ipswich will probably miss J. Walters and E. Huws, while Boro can choose from all registered players, but will not.

Key talking points:

Which line up should our Tony use?

Is 10+ consecutive MDT's doable?

What is the standing record of consecutive MDT's?

Is it good, that this game comes right after a dreadful Saturday performance, so Pulis must use fresher legs?

Will any of the top teams fail this mid week opportunity?

Name 3 players, who have played for both Ipswich and Boro?

1/10+

Could certainly do with a welcome win at a bogey ground. Ipswich are draw specialists at home and us away, so the smart money should point to another draw. Ipswich have drawn all their matches at home, but are still looking for their first win. Boro typically end team's bad runs, so it's not looking good and a draw may be the best we can hope for. Hope I'm wrong and the team returns to winning ways.

Based on recent performances and lack of imagination shown for the first time this season I am resigning myself to an away defeat (Erimus is correct we do allow others bad run to end) or draw at best.

Simply can not get enthusiastic about this game and just hope that TP might just surprise us due to our form since the International break

It needs a bit of a shakes up. All a bit stagnant since getting back from the International Break... Looked like we'd started to find some rhythm and pragmaticism, but now we're looking like the Stereotypical Tony Pulis side - solid defence, no creativity.

Players like Wing & Tavernier have to come in for me. They've actually shown it on the pitch in recent games as oppose to just being higher reputation names...

We’ve only won 3 out of our last 15 away games under Pulis.

If he continues playing 5 at the back and getting them to hoof it up field it will be 3 out of 16.

That is quite shocking. Winning 1 in 5 away games is just not good enough.

Being 1 point off top spot is quite shocking as well isn't it?

Slightly flippant there to a degree KM but take your point.

However the several opportunities to take advantage to change the 1 point off top spot to something better has failed to happen and we are not setting the world alight with our particular brand of football.

It will be very easy to slide down the table just as easy as it would be to progress onwards.

I am very pleased with our home form which is the main reason why we are up there. The away form is pretty bad though and that can't be glossed over with being 1 point off top. The 4 points we got at Bristol and Leeds were excellent but just 2 points from games at Millwall, Norwich and Hull is pretty bad. That certainly needs to be bettered over the course of the season if we want a top 2 finish.

Since when have we ever made it easy for ourselves though? Same happened under Aitor the season we went up; we never take advantage of others messing up!

And there lays the problem and it is about time we did, it's the same old problem of not being clinical enough when we do have the chances because we do create enough opportunities to do just that.

Ok we will never be pleasing on the eye as far as "the beautiful game" is concerned but we do have a habit of shooting ourselves in the foot.

WBA were considered a "boring team" but that tag is certainly being eroded now

Not excited at all for this one and can see another 1-1, 0-0, incoming. Its all very well saying we're one point off the top, well we're also just four points off 14th - and this league punishes loss of form very quickly. There are two questions I would love to hear TP answer:

1. Why have we stopped pressing? Where has the high energy press that stifled WBA and Leeds gone?

2. Why have the "wing-backs" stopped pushing up and reverted to some kind of horrible flat back five? Again, this was key in good earlier season results. We played like a team with a man sent off against Hull because players are hanging back doing sod all and standing on each others toes instead of supporting the forwards.

If the answer to the above is its deliberately tactical, then there really is no hope for Pulis. If the answer is the players are not carrying out instructions, then ring the changes on Tuesday - our squad is big enough.
