Your #12 Contenders:

Mikkel Beck
A reliable goal scorer who adapted to several strike partners during his 3 years on Teesside, Beck was a steady, trusted player in Division One and the Premiership. The silky haired Danish forward was eclipsed in reputation by some more luxurious members on the squad, but his goals and strengths were always valued by the Boro faithful.

Jonathan Greening
A scape goat for many Boro fans at the time, in hingsight it can - and has been - argued that Greening was a solid cog in Boro's systems during his time.at The Riverside. A "Mr Reliable" who facilitated more flair-based, flashier names around him. One of those players whose strengths aren't often celebrated, but whose team-mates always give glowing reports of.

Emanuel Pogatetz
Steve McClaren signed the - frankly slightly psycho - Austrian defender for £1.8m. A tiny sum for the hard man’s contribution to some memorable Boro years. Playing at left back, centre back, covered in blood, or adorned with a mask - Manny "never [gave] less than 300%" every single game, to quote McClaren himself. Strong in the tackle, good in the air - he was the sort of highly committed, high work rate player the fans love.

Shay Given
Only made 16 appearances while on loan in the 13/14 season, but did enough to be remembered as a contender for the most naturally gifted shot stopper to wear the Boro keeper jersey. 10 clean sheets in those 16 games is why. One of the best Premiership keepers of his generation,  who was still producing class saves in the twilight of his career.

Voting closes at 12pm tomorrow. UTB!

Wow you lot love your defenders, yet you were all anxious to get rid of Uncle Tony, I think he’d be the perfect fit for this squad.

It's not really that many in the grand scheme of the whole squad:

GK - Schwarzer

RB - Young
CB - Ehiogu / Festa
CB - Southgate / Woodgate
LB - Queudrue

CM - Boateng
LM -
RM -
AM - Juninho

ST - Viduka
ST - Ravanelli

If Poggy gets in, we'd still be one defender short of 2/position. And that's just for a 4-4-2!

That’ll be 8 defensive players out of 12, 9 if you count George as a DM

We seem to be missing a couple of wingers, it’s the age old problem.
Supporters are always crying out for flair players, but when it comes down to it, there is nothing that the average Boto fan likes more than a good clogger who gets stuck in and runs around a lot. ☺️

Reckon the final squad will end with 8/9 defenders, which out of 23 is fine.

Wingers, as BWS said, are at a premium!

Will likely do an extra poll for 1 extra player who played with the a number from 24 up.

I know Pogatetz is a bit of a cult hero for some of our fans but he wasn't a very good player.

My vote is for Beck he was a good striker and played a big part in us getting promoted.

Got to be Mad Dogatetz. Loved him. That  incredible Bolton game with the iconic pictures. Given was brilliant, too.

Where he got bullied by Kevin Davies.

Am I the only one who thought Jon Greening was a very good player for us?

Remember he had one season where he was very good and was on verge of an England call up? No easy achievement given that was in the midst of the "golden generation"

Yeah he was excellent for a couple of seasons for us.

Odd, isn't it? So many Boro fans hated on him for very little reason... But as you say, you don't get within touching distance of an England call up - especially as a midfielder in that era - without significant talent.

The best parts of his game just weren't noticed by many. He was brilliant tactically, and his off the ball work was excellent.
