Your #17 Candidates:

Vladimir Kinder
Let's forget that red card against Chesterfield for a minute... Kinder arrived at Boro around the same time as Gianluca Festa, but with far less pomp and ceremony surrounding him. His versatility was important to our return to the Premiership, with Kinder able to fill in any number of gaps on the field. Consistently solid, rarely phenomenal, but part of a strong backline which was the foundations of our promotion bid - after which the arrival of Dean Gordon, coupled with injuries, limited his chances in the first team.

Christian Ziege
What a left foot. A Free-Kick specialist with fantastic technique and ball control, Ziege was a player who got fans off their seats whenever he started getting forward. Signed from AC Milan for £5.4m, Ziege sadly only spent one season at Boro before an acrimonious move across the Pennines to Liverpool. A move he has since admitted he deeply regrets.

Doriva
Brazilians are usually full of flair and tricks. Not this one. Doriva was a proper workhorse of a holding midfielder, signed on a recommendation by none other than Juninho. Another of those solid, stoic, dependable midfielders who go undervalued at Boro, Doriva was a part of some of our biggest successes, yet rarely gets spoken of. A non nonsense, strong, tough tackling mid - Doriva was an important back-up for Boateng before staking a claim for his own place, clocking up 79 Premier League appearances. Not bad for £180k...

Tuncay Şanli
The Football Manager signing. A Free Transfer from Fenerbahce, Tuncay was already one of Turkey's favourite sons. His arrival whet the appetite of Boro fans, especially after a clip of his skill and ability was posted online from an early training session. A down to earth, lovely bloke off the pitch - he scored 18 goals in 70 games across 2 seasons on Teesside. He could've hit far greater heights with a foil other than Alves, Emnes, or Dong-Gook to play alongside...

I loved Doriva, but it was between Tuncay & Ziege for me.

I gave Tuncay the vote in the end because while Ziege was awesome, the way he left still leaves a sour taste in my mouth, while I will love Tuncay as a player forever.

Ziege for me without a doubt. Obviously the way he left was massively disappointing and seemed to be a curse on him as he was injury plagued for the rest of his career. For me he would walk into my Boro 11 moreso than the other candidates. It still amazes me how we managed to sign him.

Kinder is a cult legend here I loved it when he was here.

Tuncay just misses out although some of the skills he pulled off were ridiculous and he always gave 100% I just felt he went missing in games during the season.

Doriva joins Townsend and Mustoe of underrated players at the Boro. Being Brazillian probably didnt help him as he was a "battler" rather than a flair player

I felt this about Tuncay as well he was missing for long spells of games then he'd chase down a lost cause and the stadium would erupt. It felt like he was kidding the fans. Maybe that's a bit harsh but it was how I felt, I'm sure his highlight video looks brilliant though and he was good in spells.

It's a tough one this, Ziege is one of the best players I've seen in a Boro shirt but he did the dirty on us.

Kinder was alright for us but I've picked Doriva, he went unnoticed by a lot of fans but his role was important for the team and he allowed Boateng to drive forward.

Tuncay was too inconsistent for me and Ziege is a snake.

Tuncay for me.

Ziege if he had stayed longer would have pipped tuncay imo as out the above 4 he was the better player but overall tuncay made the best contribution in a no.17 shirt.

Think club recently put all Tuncay goals up on the you tube channel if anyone wants to have a look. Some of his goals were of great quality as mentioned above. The volley he struck v Derby was such a sweet strike.

Technically he was very good and i think with better players around him he would have flourished even more.

Putting aside off the field antics I've gone with Ziege. One of the best players we've had in his position. Tuncay, while exciting to watch at times, was just too inconsistent but then again so was the entire team. Ziege was just good for the entire season he was here. International class. His name has also given me a few laughs as it means goat in German😝

I'm not blaming Ziege for wanting to move to a club like Liverpool, but the way it happened was wrong. Probably more the fault of a greedy agent and dirty Liverpool.
